Geoff, two reviews down, is a rather harsh young fellow.
"An audiophile is one who seeks the purest and most realistic sound that is available. Price is not an issue to an audiophile." YEAH, RIGHT!! Anyone who thinks that any item, car, boat, house, stereo, etc., should ever be bought without applying a cost/benefit analysis is truly someone whose opinion does not matter to me. (see last paragraph for example)

Me, I listened to KLH 911B's at Best Buy and at a friends house. In both instances the speakers sounded very good when coupled with a sub-woofer (KLH 10-120). The highs were very good and matched well with the sub for both movies and music. I just picked up some on ebay, 4 for $100.00. I plan on mating them with my Kenwood VR-357 and KLH 10-120.

Interesting note: I originally went to eBay looking to buy Bose Acoustimass 5, series II's. I had heard these speakers at many different stores and at another friends house - I though they sounded great. After reading (negative) reviews at Audioreview about these speakers, I went to Best Buy to listen to the 911B's/10-120's and low and behold, next to the KLH's was the Bose display (not 5, series II, 7, I believe). A direct comparison showed me what the reviews had been saying "No highs, no lows, must be Bose" was true. The KLH setup 911b's/10-120 easily outperformed BOSE. Bose new $599-1,499, KLH $210. So much for more expensive is always better!!!

ALWAYS BUY THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK/BEST SOUNDING TO YOU SPEAKERS - DON'T JUST BUY IT BECAUSE IT IS EXPENSIVE AND THEREFORE SOUND QUALITY IS ASSURED.

Strength:

Cheap! Decent sound, good for an extension, surround, or a multi-use speaker, highly efficient, speaker materials, high power handling

Weakness:

Bass is a bit weak, sometimes hard to match with bigger speakers

Well, I saw these on sale at Best Buy and decided to give the little guys a listen. I was quite surprised. The KLH bookshelves have plenty of bang for their buck. While they aren't the best in the low end department, they have very clear mids and highs, although some don't favor their flat sound quality which can sound very harsh in certain situations. I bought the speaker with various uses in mind (extension, rear surround, recording monitor, take to school, etc.) and think that it works well under all conditions. Best of all, it's cheap - so if you screw it up you won't feel so bad. Right now, they're mounted on the rear of my bedroom wall in an experiment. Even though I'm using a stereo-only amp, they add some nice ambience and depth to the overall sound in the room, and electronic ambient music (such as Orbital) sounds very cool. I'm quite happy with my purchase - they should have cost a bit more!
