Strength:
Great treble and bass.
Weakness:
Weak midrange (fixable though-just run a wire between the woofer and midrange drivers).t Great speakers for the money. I got these for Christmas in 2000. The treble and bass are outstanding. Great frequency range. The midrange is a bit underpowered, but I fixed this by connecting the empty second terminals on the woofer and midrange drivers. These are excellent speakers for the money. I do recommend them to those with tight budgets. The 9912s replaced some really crappy RCA 3" speakers that came with an earlier Pro Logic system I had, which I was happy to be rid of.s Similar Products Used: n/a{ |

Strength:
Beatuiful highs, strong clear bass, clear precise midranges. LOW PRICE
Weakness:
Ummmmmm...they're big? Heh of corse they're big. They're suposed to be LOL. So what to say of these speakers. Some say the suck, some say they're great. Well they were a good price so I went to my local Best Buy to compare large speakers to accompany my KLH surround sound speakers and Onkyo receiver, which is great already. I got to Best Buy and started looking around. I first went to the JBL section. I looked at their floorstanding speakers. They sounded great. I look at the price tags. They range from $400 to $1000 a pair. The KLHs I heard about are about 1/5 those prices. Next Cerwin Vega. Same prices as JBL, sound just as good. Next KLH. As soon as I turn on the speakers, I check to make sure they're not JBLs. Yes they really sound as good as some $600 JBLs for 1/6th the price. Precise strong lows, beautiful highs, clear midranges. People say that the trebles are too high. I rather have highs I can turn down than speakers with highs that you can bearly hear. Thats what the little knob on your reciever marked treble is for, but I found right in the center works great. I don't like my music real loud, I like it high quality, and these speakers can give you both. All in all, these are great floorstanding speakers, esspecially for the money. And just to let you know, the wolfers are not paper!!!! Similar Products Used: JBL and Cerwin Vega Floorstandings. KLH surround se SS02-htib |

Strength:
Cheap loud durable perfect for your kids.
Weakness:
tweeters blow easily bass isnt very good for a 12" These were my first pair of speakers and they worked well for me. They were cheap so I didnt expect them to sound great. The bass was loud but not very deep, the midrange was alright and the treble was pretty good. The overall sound quality was pretty bad but got better at higher volumes this didnt suprise me. About 6 months after i bought them both tweeters blew out i replaced them with plain paper cone tweeters and they sounded better than before. These speakers can get very loud without distorting. A couple months ago i sold these to a friend and bought a pair of the Sony ss-mf600h's, they cost 3 times as much but sound 3 times as good, another example that you pay for what you get. Strength:
Solid bass, sharp highs. Enclosure is engineered to old-school dimensions. KLH isn't trying to engineer their way around the dynamics that make sound work. Want to know why the KLHs sound good? Their boxes are designed via the Golden Mean which has always been the defining factor in achieving good resonance in an enclosed space with audio. The most important strength? They pump a whole lot of good audio, shake your walls, make your pants flap in the wind.
Weakness:
Mid is underpowered, misadvertised even as a 5.25" when it is actually a little 3.5" diaphragm with almost no movement. Doesn't make a terribly big difference in my music, and turning up your 500hz-3000hz on an eq if you have it generally fixes the problem. I couldn't be more satisfied. I was looking for a high-quality set of large volume floorstanding speakers a couple years ago, and after researching them here on AudioReview, I found the best pair for the job. I've run these speakers over a thousand hours out of my Technics SA-EX320, and really all I can say is that they rock. Now, don't think you are buying a set of audiophile high-fidelity speakers here. KLH is engineered for efficient sound production, and that's what they do. I use these speakers at house parties, and they will fill a living room with great sound all night long. All you need is a reciever, 4 wires and the 9912s and you have a portable party anywhere you go. Strength:
Sound great, affordable, handle a lot of power if you have the right equipment
Weakness:
voice-coil is too small, jumps out of box 1/2in. 1-2 inch would make these the best!! I have spent much time and money looking for speakers I can stand, I love having my speakers loud, and having a lot of bass. I foud these and they were on sale for $100/pair, so I bought them. I also purchased a 10-120 powered sub. The sub is at a friends, and the 2 12s sound great, they have great bass, and wonderful highs. I have them running through a 150watt reciever, and then they run to a 500watt amp and equalizer, and they sound great! They are rated for only 250watts, but I have pushed far more than that, and they haven't blown, like all my other speakers. Strength:
Good speakers for the price. Good quality sound at lower volumes.
Weakness:
None found yet. I went to Best buy to get a good pair of speakers without spending the cash. I paided 100 dollars for them when they were priced at 120 dollars. These where the speakers I went home with. I can''t crank the volume on my reciever past 3 in fear of my nieghbors complaining since I live in an apartment building with two other tenants. they have good sound quality for the price. I think of them as good starter speakers so far but then again I haven''t cranked them they may be better or worse. As for how they are built they are sturdy since I have turned on my receiver to be blasted out of the room since my toddler son got to the volume and I forgot to check it before I turned it on. They are still going so they have to be built somewhat good to have my son not kill them yet. Similar Products Used: MTX JBL and Yamaha. |

dear Mr. Night Wolf I''m using a Harman/Kardon AVR 35 reciever. I know what im talking about becasue my Harman/Kardon receiever and Harman/Kardon CD player together cost $1100. I have Harman/Kardon''s top-of-the-line CD player, the FL8550. This is better than their FL8380 that is sold today. The KLHs make my HK receiver and CD player sound terrible. While my JBLs dont sound nearly as good as my parents Wharfedale Pacfic 40s or Magnaplars, they do sound alot better than the KLHs. And i do know what Audiophile speakers soundlike....My parents own MAGNAPLANARS! These are Hi-Fi speakers which can retail for over $12,000. For the price of the KLHs....get some used high quality bookshelfs by JBL or Wharfedale. |

Strength:
low frequency response, nice highs too pretty good value.
Weakness:
flimsey paper woofers with "poly" painted on the front, cheap cabinet design I think that these speakers were ok, but they leave much to be desired. first off, if you are gunna get a pair of klh speakers, buy the warrenty. If you don''t play it loud enough to blow these, you''re either a wuss, or should have bought some smaller, higher quality speakers. I started with klh 8s a bit over 4 years ago, those lasted several months, until the tweeter blew out- then i got my first 12s, blew out a woofer, then another set, blown midrange, and the set i currently own had a blown woofer, but i lost the warrenty before it ran out.................................... so i bought a pair of madison PA woofers with 90 oz magnets, they sound ok, but i need to replace the remaining klh gear with new x over and horn tweeters, i dn''t even know if i''ll bother bc the boxes sound like bongos with the new woofers, despite lining the inside with egg crate foam......... i may just start over Similar Products Used: other klh crap |

Weakness:
EVERY THING -Paper driver -Klh brand -screaming mid/tweeter DONT BUY THESE!! the sound is cold and clinical. i an a true audiophile and these are bye FAR the worstloudspeakers ive ever herd. I have a very expensive (4,500 $) high end tube amp and a low cost sony amp, and these sound very muddy and i about died when i herd the mid range. THAT THING IS LEATHEL!! Another thing, the enclosure broke in two!! because of the wheight of a dictonary! Now i know why they are always so cheap.. Mr. Jonathon, you say these speakers suck? i think they are fine, you compare them to your N38''''s, which are 3 times the price, i don''''t think thats a fair comparison, why don''''t i get $1,000 klipsch and then say you JBL''''s suck? for strenghs you say treble is loud, but then for weakness you say trebel is harsh, what with that? weak bass? yeah right, i get bass from these to shack things off walls in a 13'''' x 17'''' room, and thats with the bass at flat tell me whats wrong with the mids? remember this is a $100/pair speakers i am 14 also and i have the JBL ND310''''s which are the bigger brother to your N38''''s, i have the dual 10''''s, so please don''''t go on a rampage saying how i don''''t know what i am saying what are you using as an amp to drive them? |
