Strength:
Excellent horn loaded speaker. Very easy to drive. Sound is trueful and netrual. Great image and soundstage can be achieve with proper placing. Bass is certainly deep and tight. One of the best speaker I heard at this price range.
Weakness:
Heavy to move. Non really !!! If you are into floorstander, this is a very good speaker for a start. High efficiency, great sounding and bass tight. Can be harsh with some solid state at times, once proper matching is achieve, is a hard to beat speaker. |

I went looking for about 2 months for a good set of speakers. Then while at Ultimate Electronics I was in the speaker room and heard a pair of Klipsch 4.5 's and it was love at first sound. I compared many speakers from DCM to JBL to Polk and many others and the Klipsch just sounded better. More bass and tight bass at that. crystal clear high's that sound natural and accurate. they do lack the mid that some people like but i have never been much on mid's. if you need mids then get something else or add something else. but for the $430 new in the box clearence price I paid I feel good about my purchase. I then bout a Eosone powered sub with satellites for $260 BUCKS. I matched the Klipsch speakers with a Klipsch center channel to complete my system. I spent less then 850 for all my speakers and chunked my JBL's in the garage. |

I have to agree with Chris. These not only DO NOT shout, but many of my planar and bi-polar loving friends could not tell WHAT type of driver they had: they only complimented on: Speed, punch, and detail. Idiotic predjudices against a speaker that is completely different since Paul JR took over YEARS ago need to stop. This speaker will deliver information about recordings that speakers costing 3 times as much struggle with. Smooth, detailed and powerful. FIVE FULL STARS-and I like magnepans, vandersteen and B&W! |

I own a pair of KG 4.5 for almost 2 years now. The bottom end really impresses me a lot. Bass is deep and taut and the whole presentation very dynamic. The soundstage is very wide and the imaging is simply superb. i have some reservations on the treble though. Although very detailed and airy, the horn speaker tend to be sibilant which put me off somewhat when listening to the likes of LeAnn Rimes and Celine Dion. I would also prefer a darker sound even at the expense of some of its detail. As for the midrange, it is a bit on the lean side and cannot compare with my other set of speakers the NHT Superone. Suprisingly, piano pieces which have a lot of midrange sounds more realistic from the klipches than from the NHTs. If you like vocals, you wouldn't want the klipches, otherwise this baby excel in all the other areas. |

This is a review of the KG 5.5's. I purchased a pair for about $500 which is less than half of the retail price. This speaker has many strengths and weaknesses. They do have an incredibly deep soundstage which appears to extend at least 10 feet out. I was originally looking for a pair of the 4.5's, but instead got the larger pair, which was a steal at the price. I was curious to experience the "horn sound." It took a while to get use to the sound after owning a pair of Advent Legacy III's. The system has extremely tight bass for a reflex enclosure, but is still not as accurate as a sealed or transmission line enclosure. Highs are focused and have a narrow vertical spread. They have an average size sweet spot with less than average "spaciousness." Some major problems I have with the speaker are with the contruction. For a box with about five cubic feet of internal volume there is no crossbracing, which I found dissapointing. Also, 18 guage wiring was used to hook everything together, which should be replaced with heavier guage, perhaps oxygen free copper of maybe 10 guage. The biggest shock was the discovery of very little internal damping. Only two sheets of foam were placed in the enclosure. This problem can be remedied rather easily. Overall, listening to the 5.5's is a very pleasant experience, especially in a larger than normal room where they can sound more natural. |

Klipsch Belle loudspeakerI've owned four pair of maggies, a pair vandersteen 3a, a pair of klipschorns and now the Belle Klipsch. I'm happiest with the Belles. They required about 200 hours break in before the squawker settled down. Still I noticed and upper mid/treble hashiness. I cured this by running Audio Quest solid wire to the mid (type 4) and tweet drivers (two individual strands of 20 gauge twisted together), stranded Monster Cable 12 gauge to the woof (there are two sections of woof wire which requires disassembly), snipping the red jumpers and creating my own with AQ type 4 and replaceing the stranded aluminum wire in the crossover with AQ solid 18 gauge. This cured the hashiness and allowed me to hear an incredible amount of detail even at low listening levels <85db. I also filled the backside with polyfill and mounted the crossover on rubber washers. Finally I placed plumber's putty on the back of the tweet horn to kill any resonance. HUGE DIFFERENCE. These speakers are the most exciting speaks I've owned. My Vandersteens sit collecting dust. I love the Belles. |

Back in 1988 or so, I went big time speaker hounding, listening to every speaker I could find up to $1500, this included all your typical names, and many not so typical, a/d/s, Altec Lansing, B&W, Polk, couple planar's (forget which), but anyhow... I digress... The last dealer I went to sported this big, beautiful cabinet speakers, this is when tower and planar were hitting the big time, Klipsch, oh year, heard *of* them. Well, I asked to hear some Klipsch, the impact was stunning. After listening to frilly, detail oriented speakers, the clarity and pureness of sound startled me, it was like have a layer of film removed from ears. I told the salesman, "these are great, but $1800 is too much (referring to Klipsch Horns), he tells me, nah, it's those smaller ones there, the KG4s!" $600! With Walnut cabinets no less, "take em to the car" I said. Well in ten years I have replaced everything in my system, some things twice, except my KG4s, and other than my tape deck, the speakers are the least expensive component, but by far the best value. The nature of the speakers also rewards you when you upgrade components, if you invest $1000 in a great new amp or pre-amp, you WILL hear a great improvement. The bad side, crap in will result in crap out. The Klipsch doesn't color or mutate the sound, what you put in is what comes out. And that is the way I think it should be. :) |
