Strength:

Value for the money is incredible for a sub $300 pair of speakers

Weakness:

No longer in production, availability of replacement parts is limited. (an OEM tweeter is available, but an equivalent woofer replacement is not)

The Klipsch KG-4 has excellent efficiency due to it''s horn loaded design. The Passive Radiator provides significant bass for it''s size (down to 38hz), and the clarity of this speaker is wonderful. I use this in my combined stereo-HT system, with a Sony STR-333-ES Reciever,KV-3 center,Sony WM-40 Sub and RS-3 surrounds. It''s not a perfect HT speaker due to the lack of perfectly matched center/surrounds, but for 2 channel audio it''s tough to match, and higher end receivers allow enough tweaking to make this largely a non-issue.

Strength:

Incredibly realistic sound

I found these wonderful speakers in a for-sale ad on the base where I am stationed. I didn't really know too much about older Klipsch speakers at the time, but bought them anyway because they were cheap and I wanted another pair of speakers for the bedroom. Well, guess what happened? The KSB 3.1's are in the bedroom and the KG4's are running my home theater system. Absolutely amazing sounds for the price, and the quality is simply first rate. These speakers were originally purchased in 1985 and the oak veneer still looks amazing. Superb looks and sound after 15 years! I would recommend these speakers to anyone at four times the price I paid for them. Excellent job Klipsch.

Strength:

strong bass, clear highs

Weakness:

bass response good but lacks punch, slight sibilance on female vocals

I picked up the kg4's for $100 at a pawn shop after reading all the reviews here. Hooked them up to compare with my EPI 100's. Mixed reviews. Highs were good, low bass response was better but overall bass reponse lacked the punch of the EPI's. Took the 12 inch passive off of the back and had a look inside. The only dampening material was a piece of foam rubber on each side! added some fiberglass insulation and now the the overall transient reponse is much closer to the EPI's with better low bass reponse. This is my first pair of horn speakers. The more I listen to these now that I added more dampening, the more plesed I am becoming with their sound. I rate these at four and a half stars.

Strength:

great bass, beautiful cabinetry

Weakness:

none

Paid $600 over ten years ago and what a great investment. They still look and sound as good as ever. The bass response makes a subwoofer an option although I did get one just recently for home theater. If you like classical or string quartet music they may not be the speaker for you, but if you like rock, rap or popular music they have an uncanny nack of turning your living room and stereo into an auditorium and PA system.

They are also very efficient so the quality of the power is more important than the amount of watts. If you can find some used, grab em. You won't get mine though, they'll have to bury with them.

Strength:

Great rear woofer that still give great high end performance.

Weakness:

Not wife or close neighbor friendly.

I bought these speakers when they first came out. I didn't know at the time howgreat of a deal I got. These speakers out-perform anything I put them up against. I have used them with many different components (upgrades over the years) and am still impressed. I wish I could have their power in a smaller unit.
The speakers however are not wife, close neighbor, size restricted friendly. I hate to say it...I am actually contemplating selling them under pressure (from the wife).
If anyone is interested in giving them a good home e-mail me.
I hate seeing them go.

Strength:

A speaker for the ages.

Weakness:

None I've found in all these years.

I will always remember my first purchase with a credit card: a pair of Klipsch Kg4s, when I was 19, a freshman inc college, in 1989. And though, with interest, the speakers have cost me more than all but one of the automobiles I've bought since then, I've never regretted it.

They've held up nicely, through several moves (none of them gentle). In pecan cabinets, they've held up nicely through several finishes.

And the sound? In more than a dozen years, I've never gotten tired of them. Even though I could afford better speakers now, I have never "upgraded," simply because I've never found another set of speakers which gave me as much satisfaction.

They're efficient enough to run the cats out of your neighborhood. They're transparent enough to make you forget where, exactly, they are when your eyes are closed. And they're durable enough to run, as we say in Georgia, "from now on."

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, the best speaker you can buy, as far as I'm concerned. And if you're in the market, don't e-mail me. Mine aren't for sale.

Strength:

a lot of clarity and range for the money.

Weakness:

some recordings can sound boxy in the midrange.

The kg4 has been a fantastic all-around performer for me since 1987. I expected to find them lacking when I recently compared them to similarly priced speakers. The kg4 passive 12 extends the bass so smoothly I chose to wait another few years to replace these.

I have had the infinity SM120's for many years. They were stolen so I replaced my stereo many years later. I always remembered the splitting headache that the polycells would give. I plugged the kg's in and have been listening to cds for 6 hours now and I my head does not hurt. Amazing. I went the local mass consumer retail stores and listened to the latest offerings, under $650 nothing comes close to the kg4 in my opinion. I am debating buying another set for the rear or stepping up to the cornwalls or heresy series if I can find a good pair. I love the sound of klipsch, I only wish I had bought them instead of 4 sm120's long ago. I am driving them with a sony DB840 receiver, connected to my cd with an optical toslink cable, listening to my favorite Replacements cd, I am hearing the cd like i have never heard it before. I love these speakers and would recommend them over buying any other speaker for the price, new or used. I am not a so-called audiophile, but I enjoy cranking the system and getting lost in a good cd, these things sure are doing the trick today.
