Strength:

Bass is decent. Thought I had my sub turned on, but the 20's were the only thing pounding! Cabinets seem to be built tuff - heavy furniture. WOW! Excellent.

Weakness:

NONE

Awesome speakers for the $$. Great deal if you can still find them.

Strength:

good sounding speakers, but look into KG 5.5's

Weakness:

Klipsch's KG 5.5's are superior, get these used for < 1/2 the price

I purchased the 20's along with a denon 4800 from the local dealer to upgrade my previous setup (marantz 8000/KG 5.5's). I was seriously disappointed in the 20's. I tried all combinations with my Dad's Yamaha 2095 and my Marantz 8000. Unfortunately the denon doesn't have an A/B speaker switch so I couldn't do a direct comparison from the Denon. After a couple days of auditioning, the 5.5's were the clear victor. They outperformed the KLF20's in all but power handling. However, the 5.5's can handle plenty of clean power.

I'm not sure what Klipsch was thinking ending the KG line of products. It is my opinion that KLF series (or at least the KLF20's) is inferior to the 5.5's. So in conclusion if you are looking at purchasing the KLF20's make a serious inquiry into an used set of 5.5's and decide for yourself.

WOW.I auditioned alot of speakers before buying, and have to say that these made my choice very easy. The soundstage they produce is wide and deep.Bass responce is extended and tight, with no need for any powered subwoofers, midrange is smooth and clean, and the highs are crisp and transparent, with no hint of harshness. They are also very efficient, needing miminmal power to drive them to VERY loud levels, although quality amplifiers will produce much better results.Alot of speakers in the $1500 price range sound very good, but Klipsch's KLF20's will provide a truly visceral listening experience. If your quest for the audio holy grail means live and natural sound in your living room, check these out.

Had KG 3.5 for two years. Was looking at a pair of KG 4.5 close out ($249 each)at Good Guys. They only had black ones left and we prefer light oak. The store had a pair of light oak KLF 20 the manager want to unload so we gave it a shoot. The base is very strong but not boomy. The mid and high range are very clear. I like my 3.5 but found its high range some times a bit too sharp. The KLF20 does not have this problem. It cost more than double the 4.5($549 each) but its worth it. I am now using the 3.5 for rear speakers in a HT. The Delos DVD 1812 just sound great with the combo.

This is the middle speaker in Klipsch's Legends line. They are very large at 41x12x16 inches and a hard to move 87 pounds each. They retail for $1500 and I got a pair in satin black for $1300.Mail order is cheaper but it isn't cheap to ship 174 pounds.Finish and construction is very nice. The wood isn't furniture quality but is quite nice. They are very solid, and respond well to the good old knuckle rap. They utilize a 1 inch horn tweeter,1 and a half inch horn mid-range,and two 10 inch woofers. They include adjustable spikes, and also include big feet to cover the spikes on hardwood floors which is a nice touch.
Now the sound. These speakers sound fanastic. The soundstage is large and clear.Mid-range and treble are both exceptional. The reproduction of voices is great. However like many horns they can sound a tad bright at times. And the bass is deep and solid. They have the ability to rattle the windows at loud levels.I don't have the equipment to measure it,but according to Julian Hirsch of Stereo Review usefull response extends to 25-30hz.Which is lower then just about any subwoofer under $1000 or more.If you can't tell already I love these speakers and recommend them to antone looking in the $1200-1500 price range. The larger KLF30's have 12inch woofers instead of the 10inch and retail for $1800.They have the same tweeter and mid-range.I compared these to some speakers costing $2500-3000 and Preffered the Klipsch.Highly recommended!

Excellent in combination with NAD 116 pre and 214 amplifier. Definitely a musician's speaker - the instruments sound like they are supposed to -
e.g., lead guitar solo in Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker. Very revealing.

The dynamics of horns. Stevie Ray Vaughn like he sounded in life. Loud...clean and in your face. Klipsch has done it again. I have owned 20 or so pairs of speakers over the years... from Altec Voice of the Theater to magneplanars...acoustats. Polk SRS and virtually every speaker Klipsch has made....from the rebel to the Khorn Don't let the so called purists fool you... close your eyes and open your ears. Take a listen to these. A winner for sure.

To apology, none nessasary, your brothers electronics, room size, and speaker placement tell the story. It wouuld be infair to rate thi speaker using amplification as thin as an A/V recievers,to do these justice. The room size given is also very small to support speakers of this size, causing the speakers to be placed so close to the back wall. Placement 16" from the wall would give any speaker this size problems. To David and Jeremy, a bash is apparent ,or your tone deaf. These may be THE speaker for lo-watt SET setups.I use these speakers with MIT cables and interconnects and can attest to their smooth, tight, and transparent sound.
These speakers will let you know if your other equipment is weak, like alot of other good speakers will, so be prepared for an honest evaluation of the rest of your system. If the rest of your system is up to the task,be prepared for total satisfaction.

Apology to LU
a Casual Listener

Sorry about taking jabs at your reviews. Ithough that you were my brother-in-law, who lives
in Rowland Heights and have the exactly the same speaker
setup with the Klipsch KG 3.5 and KLF 20. What are the
odds of two individuals having exactly the same speakers
setup, about the same time period and place of purchase?
- unbelievable. So the jabs were mean for him and not you.
Please accept my sincere apology. I jumped the gun
and assumed...

And here is my(real)brother-in-law's setup:

Denon 2500 receiver
Pioneer CLD-CD605 (monster M-series A/V interconnects)
Klipsch KLF 20 (front speaker) reg. Monster 12g
Klipsch KG 3.5 (rear surround) reg. Monster 16g
no center channel speaker
The room is approx. 15x12x10 openings to the hallway
and kitchen.
The Klipsch KLF 20 are about 8' apart and 16" from the back
wall. The speakers are not toe-in
The Klipsch KG3.5 are placed in the rear approx. 10'
apart with about 10 degree toe-in.

We were watching Congo, The Rock and Patriot Games.
Listened to Cindy Lauper - True Colors (RK40313)
Murray Perahia - Chopin 4 Ballades (SK64399)
Celine Dion - Let's Talk About Love (BK68861)
Yo-Yo Ma/Emanuel AX - Brahms Sonatas For Cello & Piano (SK48191)
The Pioneer was used for both movie and music.

For the Home Theater (Dolby Pro-logic)
The Klipsch did their best work here. With its deep bass, you probably
think twice before getting a sub. The Klipsch KG 3.5 as surround help
a lot in drawing us into the movie and placed us there. The jet flying
to bomb the hilltop mansion in Patriot Games - the bass delivered.
Created a large theatrical ambience.
However, the dialog with male voices sounded chesty and deeper than
I imagine-even female voices sounded deep. Lacks subtle details.

For Music (Stereo Mode)
Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel AX sounded like they were on top of each other.
The lisp from Celine Dion on the Immortality (track 2) made me start
to wait for the next "chhhhh".
The sweet veil on Cindy Lauper voice (True Colors (track 4)) is missing
The piano playing for Frederic Chopin - (Ballade No.1 (track1)) made
the piano really large. The grand piano sound was missing warmth.
Pluses, the speakers shows good dynamics and creates a large sound stage.

So take this review as a whole system review. I only got the chance
to listen to KLF20 at my brother-in-law's house.

I rate the KLF-20 4 for HT and 2 for music (critical listening) for its
price range.

Sorry for the short descriptions.

Great Speaker!! This speaker can be compared to other speakers costinglots $$$ more.Deep clean Bass ( no need for a sub unless you are willing to
pay big bucks for one, because you are going to need a powerful sub in order
to hear an increase in deep bass) Warm clean mids, dynamic and clean highs.
It might be a little bright because of the horns but I havnt heard any
brightness or grainy sound from this speaker. This speaker is defenatly
on my list. Although I havnt done any serious long listening on this speaker
I know in the first minute when I listen to this speaker that it is one of
the best speakers out there in this price-range, especialy for those who
like house music,pop, r&b, rock .
