I love these speakers! I purchased them a month ago and have been listening to them almost non-stop. I use them about 50/50 Home Theater/Stereo and they excel in both areas. Before I purchased these speakers I had concluded that a subwoofer was an absolute necessity for a good home theater set up. Now I think a sub would be useless. You would have to spend lots of $$$ to get any improvement over what the KLF 20's provide. These speakers shake the floors and walls and punch you with deep, sharp bass. The horns produce exceptionally distinct mids and highs- I can hear sounds in my music that I never knew were there. I was originally driving these with a high current NAD stereo amp. The sound was very good. Imaging is very good if you are in the sweet spot, but falls off some as you move off-center. I just purchased a Yamaha RX-V 2092 and have been using that to drive them. I was initially worried that a receiver wouldn't be able to source enough current for the tight base, but my worries were quickly alleviated. I am not sure if the performance can be attributed to the speaker or the receiver for both, but this combination is fantastic. The cabinet is very classy and feels solid. The only complaint I have is that the magnetic sheilding is not great. 2 feet is about as close as I can get the speakers to my TV (36 inch tube) without causing picture distortion. For me this is not a problem, but if you have a small room it is something to consider. I got the light oak finish for $1299 (floor models) and feel that this is one of the best investments I have ever made.

I spent over an hour comparing the legend 10 and 20 at Nobody beats The Wiz, a chain store in NJ. My budget allowed for a 10, about 8-900 dollars, I wanted to compare the two way design of the 10 with the 3 way design of the 20. Basically to hear what $300 more would get me. The difference was huge. The 10's sounded like the 20's little brother struggling to keep up and not getting the job done. The 20's sounded fantastic. They give the feeling of being at a live show. The bass difference was enormous. the floor of the listening room was rumbling as the Intro to the Cure's Pictures of You played. Everything out of the 20's was very musical and clear. Stevie Nick's Landslide never sounded better. Her voice came across the best I had ever heard. Guns and Roses and Pearl Jam sounded excellent but the clincher was Meatloaf Bat outta Hell. This was a musical experience, as close as I have heard to a concert with the performers a few feet away. Nobody Beats the Wiz wanted 1500 for a pair of 20's, full retail, (they must get good crack in that store) these can be had for around 1000 mail order. All I have to do is convince my wife. They are quite large as well

My review is based upon the following set up.
Receiver/Amp - Denon AVR-3600 (Dolby Digital - 110 Watts x 5 Channels)
CD Player - Denon DCM-460 (5 Disc Player with 20 Bit Digital Filter)
Front Speakers - Klipsch KLF-20 (2 10" Woofers - 1 Horn Tweeter - 1 Mid Horn)
Center Speaker - Klipsch FLF-C7 (Two 8" Woofers - One Horn Tweeter)
Rear Speakers - Klipsch KLF-20 (2 10" Woofers - 1 Horn Tweeter - 1 Mid Horn)
Subwoofer 1 - Klipsch KSW-200 (200 Watt Amp - 12" Woofer)
Subwoofer 2 - Klipsch KSW-200 (200 Watt Amp - 12" Woofer)

The Klipsch KLF-20 Floor Standing Loudspeaker is a great speaker for many reasons.

(1) PRICE - $750 Retail List Price (I bought mine for $599 each)
KLF-20s Kick Ass over any speaker in this price range!

(2) QUALITY - Real solid wood construction with your choice of four finishes.
Weighing in at almost 90 lbs. this speaker is amoung the heavy
weights.

(3) LOUDNESS - With a sensitivity rating of 100 db you can drive these monsters
with a weaker receiver and still have a loud sound.

(4) VERSATILITY - Having the ability to play any type of music through these
speakers is a total advantage. When shopping for speakers I was
frustrated to find some of the more expensive brands could not
handle most of my hard rock / heavy metal music. At high sound
levels most of these speakers would distort and their bass would
crumble under the intense sound of bands like Korn, Tool and
Metallica.

(5) SOUND - Tight Intense Bass, Crisp Clean Highs & Excellent Balanced Mids.
Ear Candy Indeed!

Implementing four KLF-20s into your system is pure bliss. Adding Klipsch's
KLF-C7 center speaker and two KSW-200 subwoofers is one huge earth pounding orgasm! Top it all off with a Denon Receiver with 5 Channel Stereo and True heaven will be yours!

Overall the Klipsch KLF20s are a superb speaker with the ability to piss
off anyone's neihbors!

SUGGESTED LISTENING MATERIAL

"Crash"

Sammy Hagar - Rock-N-Roll at it's finest! Sammy Is the Man!
"Marching To Mars"

Great White - Blues Rock with an Acoustic Mellowness. Great Vocals & Guitars!
"Sail Away"

I bought a pair of mahogony-finished KLF-20's 'sight unheard' through mail order (Kief's Audio/Video), since there are no good speaker shops where I am right now. I figured that unanimous '5-speaker' reviews were leading me in the right direction (thanks!). It's driven by a 75W Heathkit AR-15 receiver which I recently repaired and upgraded (replaced all resistors with low-noise metal film, tantalum capacitors in place of small electrolytics, etc). I usually listen to music through a CD (NAD 514), though a hi-fi VCR is hooked up as well for movies. The receiver/CD combination has a very clear, warm, and smooth sound which complements these speakers. The speakers themselves are very "transparent" in that EVERYTHING your receiver puts out is faithfully reproduced. It's nice to have a stereo with a very wide frequency response for these speakers.
These speakers are incredible! Everything sounds good through them! I would agree with most that one would be hard-pressed to justify a subwoofer with these speakers. Some Run DMC will convince you of the effortless bass these speakers can put out. Instruments are crisp and clear, and strings and horns are incredible. Even my wife loves these speakers.

I would place these speakers "flush" and not toed inwards to a listening position, because the horns can be a little much head-on. I have them spaced at about 4 feet because they are in a small living room (12x18), which brings one speaker close to the TV, sometimes making the TV green from the lack of magnetic sheilding on the speaker (big magnets!). Oh well, who needs a TV when you can have great music. The horns are very good at dispersing the higher frequencies while still maintaining excellent imaging. The speakers can sound much better with the grille covers off, especially at lower levels, but either way they make great sound.

There is no way I would ever get rid of the KLF-20's! These are the perfect speakers for everyone, they sound great at low or high level. They are well worth the price. If you figure that speakers should constitute 50% of your stereo budget, it's amazing that people are still buying $50 Bose bookshelf speakers. My only audio wishes are for a bigger listening room (for that great low frequency end) and a tube amp to go with my KLF-20's!

As an audio/video consultant; I have had the chance to work with and review several different types of speakers. I refer to the KLF20's as my "island speakers" because if I were going to an island and could only take one pair of speakers with me, these would be the ones. There is NO other speaker like this in this price range. Period.

My god these speakers rock! I fell in love with them but not the price. I did my home work and purchased for $1050 delivered to my door (from www.netmarket.com - see them for details). I have used them from audio and home theater.
Home Theater - Coupled with a 200 Watt sub (not that it really needed it), a DVD copy of Armageddon shook my neighbors town house 2 doors down. This was not even at 1 Db on the receiver!

Audio - Dave Matthews sounded like he was performing for me in my home. Peter Gabriel's live album captivated me! Acoustically, I could pick out sting plucks on old blues albums. My nieces hip hop had enough punch to drive nails (and give me a head ache). And Bob Marley took me to a warm place on a cold winter'’ morning.

If you have heard about, read about, or care about high efficiency, these speakers hit the mark. They can go full range without tons of power. Also, if you get warnings from snobs at “hi-fi” stores about stereo imagine from the use of horns, forget about it. These image as well or better than anything in the $1500 class and more. I can not say enough good about these. With mail order, you can by for the price of the KLF-10 and get something from another world.

My only complaint is that they are a bit heavy (like 86.5 lbs. each). Weep for me as I lugged them to the second floor.

Enjoy!

I purchased a pair of Klipsch KLF-20s about 3 weeks ago in the Medium Oak finish after a lengthy audition at my local dealer. I was impressed by the openess and clarity.
The KLF-20s were the final pieces of my total system upgrade that I started a year ago. Initially I was unhappy with the sound in my home. The soundstage sounded unnatural and the treble seemed harsh and grainy with certain material.

The KLF-20s were replacing my Cerwin Vega 417R speakers that I purchased 20 years ago. I contemplated moving the Cerwin Vegas back in place and returning the Klipschs, but I had read the many favorable reviews here and felt that some experimentation might be in order.

The listening room is 14' x 16' with the KLF-20s about 6' apart on the shorter wall. I found that by turning the outside corners in about 2" and placing them 8" from the back wall had a dramatic effect on the soundstage. Also the wire lugs on the back of the speakers were not making the proper contact with my cable spades even though they felt tight by hand. A few turns with a wrench did the trick. Now the harsh treble and graininess disappeared.

With about 100 hours of play time I feel that the speakers have broken in. This along with proper placement and tight connections has yielded the sound that I heard in the demo room.

The sound is exactly what I had hoped for. The soundstage is wide, the clarity and detail is incredible, and good balance between bass and treble. I generally listen to hard rock to heavy metal, but also enjoy blues and pop. The KLF-20s sound wonderful with everything. There seems to be no limit to their capabilities. With the ability to reproduce really low bass I can see no need for a sub.

Associated equipment:
Onkyo Integra M-504 amplifier
Onkyo Integra P-304 preamp
Onkyo Integra DX-7711 CD player
Yamaha KXR-730 tape deck
Tara Labs Prism 22 Interconnects
Tara Labs Prism Bi-Wire speaker cable

With proper placement and time for break-in you will not be disappointed in the KLF-20s. They will make you believe that you at a live performance.

Just got the KLF 20's & they sound just great, that is after putting them back together. It seems that the mid horn driver was not attached to the horn, I had to remove it & screw it in and attach one of the wires not attached but first I had to remove the bottom woofer to get to the orange washer that was in the bottom of the cabinet. Also the grill came with 2 broken holders which they are sending me a new one. Spoke with Klipsch & they said it must have been undone in shipping otherwise it would have not passed inspection & testing (funny I also have 3.1's & they were inspected & tested by the same people). I guess it must have unscrewed by itself, Yah right, they probably did not at the factory. Well my review is 5 stars for sound & 0 stars for quality control

Just got the KLF20, had the KB3.1 mains, cc1 center & KB1.1 rear. Love the 20's & put the 3.1 in rear & got the cf7 center. The system rocks, using a B & K AVR202 (no noise, hum or any other problems) had a Denon 5600 & can hear sounds now that I never heard on the 5600 that I hear on the 202. The 20's are fantastic, compared to the 10's & no comparison. They are clear & vibrant.

As a long time Klipsch fan, my comments about the KLF-20 are necessarily relative to others in the Klipsch line. I previously owned the Klipsch Forte II speakers, though over the years I have spent alot of time with most of the Klipsch offerings. These are the best ever. Klipsch's stated goal for the KLF 20's was to achieve the sound quality of the Forte's while improving imaging. That is exactly what they did (and then some). Excellent image. Excellent balance and clarity. Excellent bass. Klipsch have always been known as a good rock music speaker, but if you like acoustic music, as I do, you will love these speakers.
I get best results with speakers 8 ft apart, slightly toed in, about a foot away from the rear wall. Placement is important with these speakers.

I drive the KLF 20's with a Denon AVR3000 receiver.
