Unbeileveble sound for bookshelf speakers, they really rock
While custom-picking home theater speakers, I start using KSB 1.1 as main speakers and could not beleive to the crisp and clean sound they provide. My receiver is Denon 2800, CD/DVD player is Onkyo. Most impressive is audio performance, it really is. KSB 1.1 provide good bass, perfect mid-range and satisfying highs. I am looking forward to completing my home theater with other Klipsch speakers.

Strength:

Small, great bass for its size, clear, matches well with the
rest of the Synergy line

Weakness:

If anything, its is almost too clear. Reveals slightest imperfections in the source. Poor for music. Sensitive to placement.

I bought these about three months ago when I started building my home theater (one piece at a time). I liked how they sounded in the showroom and their size. At first I began using them as my main speakers. My rears where old KLH towers (again space constraints). I also had a klipsch KSB-C1 center chanel. I got to tell you these Klipsches do not sound like any other small speaker. They have good bass extension and crystal clear treble (not boxy at all). I though midrange was weak, but my positioning was not optimal. This weakness only showed in music playback. They did seem to be bright and forward at first, but after about 2 weeks of break in, they became very smooth.

Since I listen to a lot of music, and these guys could not quiet hack it because of their size (laws of physics I guess), I "demoted" them into a surround role, and bough myself larger Klipsches for the mains. The little 1.1 actually sound more impresive than the large KLH that they replaced. They also integrate well with the rest of the system. I am quite happy with them.

To summarize this long winded eval:
I think these are good speakers at any price, and they can compare favorably to any other small speaker out there. They do have a distinct sound so listen before you buy, and they are very sensitive to positioning.

Strength:

Clear, sensitive, very good lows, powerful, goes fantastic with my setup.

Weakness:

I don't leave my room because it sounds SSOOOOO Good.

This will be my main point:
For all those who are reading this review looking for new main or surround speakers let me just say this, STAY AWAY FROM BOSE. The reason why i say this is because if you go and read their reviews, 90% of them will say that all in all BOSE sucks.

Back to the speakers, I am using these speakers as surrounds and let me say that I was satisfied from day one, they are incredibly clear, anything that goes back there, you know about it. Even when I am watching a movie through my VCR I am satisfied. They are accurate, and they are sensitive so the rear levels don't have to be jacked up to hear them. The horn tweeter isn't bright at all, and the mid-range is all there. There is nothing I can say bad about these speakers, I had some customs up before, and I love those but I love these even more. Besides they match the rest of my system with ease.

My speakers now are
Center: Paradigm CC-70
Mains:KLIPSCH ksf 8.5's
Rears:Klipsch KSB 1.1's
Sub:Paradigm PDR-8
Sides:Custom built speakers with a pioneer elite 6 1/2 driver and custom zenith tweeter ported.

All my equipment is listed in the review for the KLIPSCH KSF 8.5's

Happy listening.

I've been running four of these little puppies, and what can I say except for they are awesome. My wife was looking for me to bring home something small with excellent sound and I did. I highly recommend the KSB 1.1 for anyone's home theater system. I have the Klipsch Sub and Center speaker to match the system and I now have a truly most excellent setup. I have a Yamaha 795 driving them now but I am trading it out for the 995, I want to have the S-video hookup for my future DVD player.

Strength:

Sound Quality, Cost

I purchased these from ubid.com for $52 each. What a deal! My local Klipsch dealer was willing to deal with me since the 1.1 has been discontinued and replaced with the KSB 1. He had both and the only real difference was the cabinet material and the tweeter had changed very little. The difference in sound was almost unnoticable. Although the KSB 1 did sound a littly muddy. His "great sale price" on the discontinued 1.1's was $200/pair. What's worse, they were the floor models. What a deal. I didn't have the heart to tell him I bought them online for half that "sale" price. Seriously, never buy anything from Bjorns in San Antonio, Tx. It does make a great place to go audition what your looking to buy much cheaper on the net.

Strength:

Clear, crisp sound, very low noise, good bass reflex and able to maintain highs. Easily hidden (not a fashion statement). Price and performance

Weakness:

Some loss if used as rear channel surrounds due to narrow directional sound

I bought 4 for much the same price as others paid for 2. Price was definately a plus, sound clarity made me appreciate the value even more. UBid is an excellent site to purchase these type of products, but get royaly shafted on the shipping and handling charges (sorry off the subject). I used decent cables, receiver and peripherals and would highly recommend these little guys to all (except the ridiculous who expect the world for chump change, "Blue______!".

Bought these from ubid for ~$130 for the pair including shipping. They sound great, but must be used w/ a sub in music setup as they just don't have the size to bring the bass. That said, they are very crisp and clear and a great value if you pick them up off of ubid or something like that.

I was instantly amazed when I installed these bad boys. The sound is huge for such a small speaker.

I'm not using these in a surround setup, but am actually using them to mix (at least temporarily).
They are much clearer than other speakers I have used of this size and I'm hearing little things (loop points/wierd frequencies) that weren't coming out in my other speakers.
Eventually I'll get some real monitors, and these will be an amazing start to a surround system.

If you don't need something with rediculous bass (although these do deliver a good punch) you will find this to be a great sounding speaker.

Strength:

Uncolored, spatial sound

Weakness:

a little bright, highs a little harsh

Nice speaker for 40 dollars a piece. Rave reviews below do it a little more justice than it deserves. Very good imaging, nice midrange, bass lacking a little when compared to B&W 302s. Very upfront soundstage. Would recommend as surround speakers, contrary to review below. B&W's worth the extra $150. But, if you are on a budget, better than anything offered at costco for $150 a pair. No serious faults.

Strength:

Good highs and mids.

Weakness:

Weak on the bass.

Very good sound from such small speakers. The highs and mids are excellent. They are very crisp....almost a little too crisp. It all depends on your taste. The bass is a little lacking, but that must be expected from such small speakers. If you want to use these as your front speakers in a surround sound system, then you need a good sub. Otherwise, I would use them as the rear speakers.
