Strength:

The amplifier is okay for a multimedia system.

Weakness:

The Promedia 2.1 satellites are absolutely garbage. Period.

If you buy the Promedia 2.1 set, buy it for the amplifier, subwoofer, and preamp. Throw the satellites away, and hook up some Optimus Pro-7 satelites instead. The stock Promedia 2.1 satellites have no soundstage, lack midrange, and are somewhat grainy. On the other hand, the Optimus Pro-7 satellites actually have a 3d soundstage and have decent midrange, when powered through the Promedia 2.1 amplifier. The Pro-7s are known as the Pro-X44AV these days, and Radio Shack often has them on sale for $40 a pair. Normally, I wouldn't recommend the Optimus brand. It just so happens that the Optimus Pro-X44AV/Pro-7 is based on the Radio Shack Minimus-7, which was a copycat of the Visonik Davids. Yep, these Optimus satellites hold their own.

The importance of using a quality soundcard cannot be stressed enough. People who complain about the Promedia piercing high-end frequency are likely using cheap SB Live! cards. The Live cards will do that. Don't use anything by Creative for music listening. I recommend the quality, yet budget priced M-Audio Audiophile 24/96.

Strength:

best 'only pc' speaker ever

Weakness:

the button tend to get 'slack' after using them alot

i have the promedia for at least a years now, and i must say they kick *ss ! For pc speaker they do the job . Sure it doesnt beat my klipsch rf3 ( my pc is connected to my receiver) . But just the promedia its really nice. I work all the time on my pc and i listen to music almost 12 hours a day . The 4 monitor speaker are nice and deliver nice quality sound, not enought to power a party tho :) , but consider these as PC speaker ! The sub is nice great frequency , they say its 160 watt, i doubt, but it still sound lound and nice .

A must get product for all you gamers or computer addict :)

Strength:

Damn cheap for a primary audio rig, awesome sound for anything i've heard under $1000, no power switch, LOUD.

Weakness:

Very expensive for computer speakers, no power switch, damnit why can't they come up with a 5.1 rig to be used as a cheapo DD/DTS setup?

I needed a rig for my dorm room, one that was loud (I dreamt of club-style SPLs), with tight accurate low bass (isn't that what we all want).... that I could afford with the little college-kid pockets I had.

Back home I was used to the lovely sounds of my Philips 850MkII cd player with the B&Ws. I had then began collecting MP3's and had the Aura/B&W set hooked up to my computers CL SB Live. Yew audiophiles can scoff, but it's a pretty damn good rig for what a teenager could get his hands on.

At college I certainly couldn't afford anything fancy, and I was strongly considering the Altec Lansing ADA-800's, untill I read about the Klipsch Promedia in some mag somewhere.

A friend bought the ADA-880, and I was far from satisfied, though I know many people who believe it is a great piece of equipment. That was hooked up to the digital audio out of some Dell laptop.

Based on reviews online, I bought the Klipsch setup online and payed lotsa lotsa money for shipping.

Based on online reviews, the product was pretty damn hyped in my head when I got it. Hooked it up to my CL Nomad Jukebox and yes it did still impress me!

The sound is... sweet. I listen to pop, r&b, and hip-hop, contemporary jazz, and big-band. The Klipsch set really does r&b justice, though it doesn't have the tight bass to make you hug yourself when listening to those lower octave plucking of floorstanding basses.

It is loud. LOUD. Not club kinda loud, but it gets pretty loud. I've not been able to turn it up loud enough to find out at which point distortion occurs. It's that loud.

The bass, however, will not shake your building. It is, however, more than sufficient to enjoy whatever music you have within your room, even a pretty damn big room.

For $250, I couldn't find anything that could do it better. For $1000, I couldn't find anything that could do it better.

Who the heck needs a power switch anyway? I like it this way.

The pre-amp is silent. With the input cables not plugged into anything, I can't hear anything putting my ear to a sattelite with the volume knob at max.

My only real gripe is the cheapass wiring they used between the amp and the satelites. The wire is thin, the plug is flimy, and connections are not gold plated. In fact, the sockets on the sats look very flimsy and it looks like it will corrode within a year or two in a humid/seaside enviroment.

The cables between the amp and the preamp and between the preamp and your equipment is of very good quality, though they aren't gold plated.

This will be my first upgrade to the set, I don't think there's enough wrong with the pre-amp to warrant spending $50 to replace it.

It has been 5 full months since I bought the set. It has not given me any trouble, and I am very glad I made the decision to part with my hard earned money for it.

PS: Those of you with cheapass sound cards on your computer, hook up these babies and your music will still sound like crap.

Strength:

For 250$, probably the best choice, probably 2nd best system designed for computers (videologic)

Weakness:

Discussed in summary

I went to take a listen to my friend's house to his promedias (fed through a soundblaster platinum) and wow, I couldn't believe my ears, I was sorely dissapointed. I was expecting something more, something that would immediately hit my heart and say "oh my god!" but that didn't happen. The promedias do sound wonderful for multimedia speakers however they lack a lot of midrange and the subwoofer is a tad bit muddy and overpowers the other speakers. The quality of hardware, like the speaker wire, is dissappointing as well - his rear left's wire is not working very well. I suppose it is because I listen primarily to high quality headphones (Sennheiser HD600s on a headroom Supreme amplifier) I cannot appreciate lowly sound anymore. I cannot really listen to my altec lansing thx speakers any more, they suck too much (klipsch are better).

Strength:

Sounds great........fairly deep base, not much distortion

Weakness:

The main volume controller hisses after using them for a while

I first heard them when my brother woke me up playing them. I ran into his room and said "What the heck did you buy..........they sound awesome". A few months later, I went and purchased them from Klipsch.com since none of the local retailer that I searched carried them. The only draw back is that the wires could be a little longer. Also, the main volume controller hisses after using them for a while (at least mine did).

One other draw back is that Klipsch came out with the Pro Media 5.1 2 months after I purchased my Promedia 4.1, which would of sound better with my Live! 5.1 sound card...duh.

Overall, good sound for the money you are paying and they sound like actual stereo speakers instead of cheap PC speakers.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Strength:

400 watts RMS, Sound quality

Weakness:

Too bright on some material

I've heard good and bad reviews about this product and putting into consideration that I am a teenager not an audiophile, these speakers are awesome. These are the best PC speakers on the market, and I've never read any article that disagrees with that statement. Dispite what some people have said, the subwoofer can play at roomshaking levels, regardless of where you place it. When put near a wall in a small room, it can get to suprisingly loud spl levels.
On top of a kickass subwoofer, the sattelites sound really good too. The tweeters make the sound very clear and precise, but at very loud levels, it can be too much. When you play the system as loud as possible without distortion, (which is really loud, especially when they are setting on your desk in front of you) the tweeters drown out most of the midrange and all of the bass. When driving them at full throttle, the midrange plays too loud and you can't hear the sub (you can only feel it). Other then that, these speakers are flawless, and most people probably won't even have those problems because it will be too loud for them at 75%. If you want the best pc speakers and have the money, go order these, you won't regret it.

Strength:

VERY LOUD and CLEAR !!! Room shaking very low and high decibel level bass. Very clear mid range and crisp treble due to Micro Horn Tactrix Tweeters.

Weakness:

Not really mentionable, but it seems that satellites tend to not handle the bass that well at the highest volume. not much of a problem tho.

In one phrase this is "THE BEST MULTIMEDIA SPEAKERS EVER BUILT". I'm an extreme audio enthusiast and anybody who would rate these speakers less that 5/5 does not what they're talking about or have something wrong with their setup.

These speakers are better than some home theatre systems out there. The sub is extremely powerful, imagine that 160W. I have 2 more AIWA TS-W60 subs (2X120W RMS), and this sub overpowers them. Imagine that !!

The clarity of the voice and crispness of these speakers are amazing. Unlike most conventional speakers which have to voice mumble up at high mid range or treble levels, these speakers produce life like concert voice and treble.

I would definitely spend 250 bucks for this system anyday.
No wonder they ran out of stock with these speakers. They came out with a newer model and they ran out of stock with that too. Amazing !!
Highly recommended. It's a pity you cant' buy it now. You'll probably have to wait for the next model to come out.

Strength:

you name it, these speakers have it. tons of power & little distortion at high volume. just fab with games of music. i've got a mac & the 4 channel card has not arrived yet so i cannot speak about the surround quality yet. everything else is just fab.

Weakness:

none

it is hard to compare these speakers to anything else that i've used or heard. perhaps i've got the ideal situation becauuse i do not have my rear speakers working yet (no sound card yet). i'm comparing the system to a stereo system with a sub. when compared to such systems the klipsch eclipsches everything (sorry for the bad humour). when i get my card i'll write amore substantial review. i'm anticipating a mind blowing experience.
