Strength:

They are heavy, sound wonderful, and give a so so receiver great sound.

Weakness:

UPS damaged the front grille..but it's ok..they will pay for new ones.. ;)

Ok, I want to express how wonderful these RF-3's really are but I will not be able to do a very good job because there's no way to really describe the sound without you being there. They are really a well rounded speaker. Very nice highs, mids, and lows. What is this "pain" people talk about with horn type tweeters?? There is NO pressure to the ears, there is no hurt, NOTHING. Nothing but very pleasing audio. However, if the music has been mixed well..you will certainly be able to enjoy the detail in the music..on the other hand, if the cd was mixed crappy...unfortunately, you will also be able to tell..and that is a good thing.
The RF-3's Love the following: They love strings, voice, and drums. :) Some very nice sounds that come from this speaker come from singers like Shawn Colvin. (a few small repairs). FleetwoodMac, to name a couple. Groups like that. They also love movies. The movies sound very awesome. FYI, I have these coupled to a "synergy" series KSC-C1 center channel speaker and lemme tell you. This center speaker, even though it's not an reference series..keeps up very well and blends beautifully with the R
F-3's. In movies, the voices come through so loud and clear in the KSC-C1..but blend in with the RF3's...in other words I don't detect a mismatch..so it's a pretty nice marry.
If you need speakers...Honestly, these are very sweet. Klipsch is a very nice product. I recommend that you buy these if you're a home owner..that way, you don't have to mess with the front grille and increase the chances that it may break when ur move (like us renters do so much) ...the way I see it...as long as you're not taking it off and on again on a daily basis..or young "rug-rats" pulling, and pushing these plastic grills...you'll be fine and should last a long time.
Good Luck!!

Sound, sound, sound. Highly sensitive, carpet spikes,Built in the USA with pride and precision!

Weakness:

Heavy enough to discourage frequent moving.

I was sold on Klipsch with the purchase of their ProMedia computer speakers. Which, sounded so good that I started a complete home entertainment system upgrade. I was highly dissapointed my JBL system in my media room sounded far inferior to my computer. So with the blessing of a very understanding wife, proceeded to get the good stuff. The Klipsch RFII series are remarkable. The seamless integration of the RF-3II towers with the RC-3II center channel amazed me. I couldn't believe the differnce the center channel alone made. The speakers were first matched with a Yamaha RXV-795a receiver and now an Onkyo TX-DS696. They sound great are are a compliment to both. I can't say anything about these speakers not already stated. I did notice the bright sound more with the Onkyo receiver, but this is mellowing into a sound so wonderful that there's not enough time in my buisy schedule sit down and appreciate. Outstanding value, outstanding quality and most importantly, unbelivable performance.

Strength:

Clear crisp sound. Good Soundstage. Excellent value for money

Weakness:

Slighly lacking in bass. Soundstage is very directional. Covers are too fragile.

I've been searching for a replacement for my venerable Jensen LS-5B's for quite a number of years. I auditioned many speakers over the years, before happening upon the Klipsch RF3's. To my ears they surpassed al others, including some speakers priced twice as high. After 8 months of ownership, I'm happy to report that these speakers still sound excellent to my ears. Out of the box, they require some considerable break in to "mellow out", and they need careful placement in the listening room in order to get the soundstage perfect. I find that the soundstage is quite narrow, and that it probably only suits a single listener in the "sweet spot". My only minor criticism is that the RF3's lack the bass power of my old Jensens, however they more than compensate with their clarity and bold energentic sound - just what I like! I'm now considering trading up to the RF7 - which will hopefully satisfy my craving for bass without resorting to using the sub which I keep only for movies.

In summary, if you like your music loud and clear, and not subtle, then the RF3's are a very worthy speaker, and are priced (even in Australia) much cheaper than anything comparable.

CRYSTAL CLEAR SOUND QUALITY. PHENOMANEL MID RANGE. EFFCIENCY. BEST CENTER RC-3 AND REARS RS-3 FOR THE $ OUT THERE

Weakness:

GAP ON GRILLS, WISH IT WAS FLUSH COUNTOURED MORE

JUST SPENT 2 HOURS AT A AUDIO RETAILER AUDITONING THE REF 3 COMPLETE SYSTEM (RF 3II FRONTS/REARS/CENTER)AND COMPARED IT TO 10-20 OTHER SPEAKERS/BRANDS. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING/LISTENING FOR MONTHS TO DOZENS OF BRANDS/SYSTEMS. I'VE BEEN TO OVER 10 AUDIO STORES WITH IN 3 STATES. RESEARCHED THROUGH THE INTERNET ON NUMEROURS SIGHTS AND PRINTED 100'S OF REVIEWS/PAGES OF VARIOUS SPEAKERS. AFTER YESTERDAY, DOING A FINAL 2 WAY COMPARISON USING MY OWN CDS & DVD'S (EAGLES,JAMES TAYLOR, PHIL COLLINS). I HAVE FINALLY MADE A DESCISION. KLIPSCH REFERENCE SERIES EARN MY PICK, MONEY, AND TOP CHOICE, HANDS DOWN.

IF YOU WANT UN-COLORED SOUND, EXCEPTIONAL IMAGING, AND MIDRANGE THAT WILL CAPTURE YOUR SENSES/EARS AND LEAVE YOU IN AWE, GET THE KLIPSCH REF SERIES. I WILL TELL YOU, I HAVE NEVER BEEN A KLIPSCH FAN UNTIL NOW, AND DIDNT EVEN HAVE THESE ON MY LIST. JUST HAPPEN TO HEAR THEM IN A STORE WHILE A SALESMEN WAS DEMOING THEM FOR ANOTHER COSUMER AND THEY CAUGHT ME EAR IMMEDIATELY AND WAS VERY INTRIQUED WITH THEM. I WAS IN TO RIBBON SPEAKERS YEARS AGO BUT HAD TO GET RID OF THEM AND DOWN GRADE MY SYSTEMS OVER THE YEARS TO SUIT MY WIFE AND FAMILY RESTRICTIONS. I RECENTLY MOVED OUT MY OLD HOUSE WHERE I HAD A CUSTOM BUILT SYSTEM WITH DEFINITIVE IN-WALLS (UIW-75/ 5) AND DT SUBS. GREAT SYSTEM! HIGHLY RECCOMEND THESE DEFINITIVE IN-WALLS AND NOW KLIPSCH IN-WALLS. I AM CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF FINISHING MY NEWLY BUILT HOUSE'S BASEMENT AND AS I STATED HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET SMALLER FLOOR STANDING SPEAKERS. AS I STATED, I HAVE SPENT MONTHS LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT SPEAKERS. MY 4 FINALIST/ 5.1 SYSTEMS WERE DEF TECH. BP 10'S, PARADIGM MONITOR 9'S, B&W 603'S AND THE KLIPSCH REF 3 SERIES. ALL OF WHICH ARE EXELLENT IN THERE OWN WAY. DT'10B'S LACKED/DIFFERENT/REAR SOUNDING SOUND STAGE COMPARED TO MY DT IN-WALLS THAT WERE MORE FORWARD. THE BP 10'S MIDS WERE A LITTLE LIGHT. PARADIGMS 9'S/B&W'S WERE CLOSER TO THE KLIPSCH WITH A DEEPER SOUND,AND EACH WERE EXCELLENT. I ACTUALLY LIKED THE PARADIGMS BETTER THAN THE b&w, ESPECIALLY FOR HALF THE PRICE. BUT THE KLIPSCH RF-3'S OVERALL SOUND, IMAGING, SOUNDSTAGE,TIGHT MIDS/BASS AND CRYSTAL CLEAR MIDRANGE FOR MUSIC & 5.1 IS "PHENOMENAL. THEY DO BOTH! EXCELLENT. THEY ARE AN "IN YOUR FACE" SPEAKER BUT THE HIGHS/MIDS ARE VERY VERY DETAILED AND CRYTAL CLEAR AND RE-PRODUCE THE SOUND EXACTLY AS IT IS RECORDED. I TOO YEARS AGO AND UP UNTIL 3 MONTHS AGO USED THIS OVER-USED GENERIC/INTPRETATION THAT "KLIPSCH ARE BRASSY, TOO BRIGHT, LACK DETAIL". THAT PHRASE WIL NEVER BE SAID AGAIN BY ME...

IT'S NICE THAT IN THIS DAY AND AGE THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD CHOICES & QUALITY SPEAKERS AND COMPARED TO 10-15 YEARS AGO. I AM GOING TO UTILIZE MY DEF TECHS SUBS WITH THIS SYSTEM AND AM EAGER TO SET THIS ALL UP THE END OF JANUARY AND WILL POST ANOTHER REVIEW.

IF MY LOCAL RETAILER WONT NEGOTIATE SOMEWHAT ON PRICE I WILL END UP GETTING THESE OFF THE INTERNET. WHEN YOU CAN THESE THE RF 3 SYSTEM FOR AROUND $ 1,200.OO VS $1,700 RETAIL I THINK ITS WORTH THE RISK FROM A REPUTABLE ONE.
I WOULD NOT HESITATE PAYING UP TO 3K FOR THIS SYSTEM.
IT IS A HIDDEN SECRET, BUT BASED ON THE NUMBER OF REVIEWS HEAR, THE WORD IS GETTING OUT....

ONE REVIEWER WITH IN THIS REVIEW MADE A COMMENT TO "RUN AND GET THESE". I DISAGREE. YOU NEED TO FLY! AND GET THESE AND YOU WILL HAVE NO-REGRETS... A PHENOMANAL SPEAKER AND SYSTEM THAT JUST WILL DO EVERTHING RIGHT... AS THE ATTACHED 5 STAR RATING INDICATES AND AS I SMILE AS I WRITE THIS IN ANTICIPATION OF GETTING THESE.. THE 5 STARS SAY "FAR BETTER THAN I EVER IMAGINED".... WHAT AN UNDERSTATEMENT......

Strength:

Accuracy, depth/width of soundstage, reproduction of just about any instrument or vocal

Weakness:

Not quite as warm as models RF5 or RF7 (but for the price, so what!?!?)

C'mon folks, for the price, these are remarkable speakers, and compete easily with others that are 2x or 3x the price. I lived with some rather pricey Magenpans for 6 years, and DCM Time Windows before that. Both of these speakers were finicky about room accoustics and placement, and the Maggies are known for their tight "sweet spot." I've much more satisfied with the Klipsch's ability to do more with less and still sound like a champ.

For those of you who are wondering where the bass is, I can only wonder about your associated equipment, speaker cable, interconnects, room accoustics, placement, etc. My previous speakers taught me to pay close attention to the manufacturers recommendations. When I configured the Klipsh per the owners manual's instructions for room placement, I have found these to have ample bass with no need for a sub. I listen to jazz, rock and classical, and am very satisfied with the sound. Sure, the RF5 or 7 might reach a little deeper, but most recorded music doesn't go there anyway.

Finally, a word about the grilles. I have yet to damage mine. Slow and careful does it. I was lucky enough, however, to receive some suggestions for taking care of the grilles from the dealer before taking them home.

Strength:

Home theatre..They can take anything you through at them..They sound the best of all klipsch speakers I have listened to, they are very balanced..Cost and high sensitivity, but not so high a sensitivity it is distorted..

Weakness:

The grills have easily breakable pins..

Of all my audio equipment, the rf-3's will be the last standing, I could have spent more on other brands or other Klipsch speakers, but these were the best for my needs..I must say that these are not perfect, if I were to have been looking for a stereo set of speakers , my first choice would have went to Energy, then Mb Quart then definitive..For all around sound, size, especially Home theatre, and durability this speaker is my top pick..

Nothing as similar as the sound of a horn loaded Klipsch, but have owned and listend to many speakers..

Strength:

Very efficient. Horn tweets. Clear dialog for HT. Excellent value. Bi-wire/bi-amp capable. Excellent customer service history.

Weakness:

Horn Tweets (if you like a "smoother" sound). Will reveal flaws in lesser components feeding the speakers. Grills a bit fragile. Large "feet" do not allow the speakers to be pushed up tight against anything. Less than stellar shielding.

These are excellent speakers for those who like the horn-loaded tweeter sound. Actaully, for HT use, they work better than I expected, being very natural sounding in the frequency range of vocals. Some complain about the "harsh" upper register in the Klipsch speakers, but I found that this mellowed out rather quickly with a relaively short break in period. Still, don't expect silk-dome sound, but I find the highs quite good. The bass is a bit lacking, but I attribute this to the placement within my room (no walls behind the speakers for a good 10-12 feet). Gotta look into changing that layout sometime. The basic black finish is nothing special, and probably will rate a low SAP (but the finish is actually quite acceptable, when compared to other brands , especially in this proce range).

These things can CRANK! Be prepared to meet your neignbors, or the authorities, especially if you have a high power amp and like to turn it up even the slightest.
