Strength:

Look great, take up little space, tremendous bang for buck

Weakness:

If you move the speakers alot, the bottom of the grill could catch the floor/carpet, and that's not even a big deal.

I researched for over a month without hearing these babies. I was in awe. I went and heard Infinity IL-50's before these and there is no comparison. I paid 700 for the pair of Klipsch and the Infinity were 700 each. Infinity and Polk are over-priced, rarely, if ever buy them. Stray from circuit city. Anyway, the bass on these things is so clean and accurate it's crazy. The thing that sets these apart is the horn tweeter. No matter how hard the bass is hitting, the highs remain clear. I've only turned the volume up halfway--that's all i can go. I am running them with an Onkyo tx-ds787 THX certified reciever. My ears literally ache. RMS power is 225 continuous. That's tough to beat. It also has a built-in crossover for highs and lows if you have an amp or two to run them. I have them coupled with a cheap Harman Kardon sub for home theatre and they rock. Can't wait to get a better sub. These things look awesome too. I would've bought them online for cheaper, but wanted them right away after hearing them. The only thing that sucks is if you still live at home and your mom yells at the high volume levels like mine does.

Strength:

Incredible sound!

Weakness:

Grill?

I graduated to these speakers after I discovered what I had been missing in life while I owned a pair of Bose 701s (yeah, I know, you live and you learn).

Others have described in detail, the soundstage, imaging, clean bass, lifelike mids, highs that need taming etc. The only thing I will emphasise here is the breaking in - it does take 50+ hours for them to settle down. And then, they rock and keep on rocking.

These speakers touched my senses to the extreme. I joyfully heard sounds I have never heard before from tracks I have been listening to since I was a child.

The sound has a life of it's own and a kind that is powerful, life like and one that leaves an impact. This is a pair of speakers built with passion and for the price, possibly has few matches.

I have a carpeted floor so taming the horns was as easy as putting on the spikes. Slight toe-in for fine tuning. The grills are a disaster and I know they will break one day!

My equipment consists of:
Pioneer DVD player
Yamaha 5.1/dts amp.
Klipsch RF 3 (main speakers)
Acoustic Research 318ps (rear speakers)
JBL HLS (center speaker)
Mirage PS 180 (sub-woofer)

Strength:

Easy to drive. LOUD. Excellent Bass. crisp horn and sting instrument sound (acoustic guitar inparticular).

Weakness:

Hard to listen to at loud volume levels. Large/ugly cabinets.

VERY CHEAP & POOR GRILLE DESIGN. They break easy and are hard to take on and off. (Read other reviews)

Wow lots of good reviews!

I, like many of the people here, were drawn to the "crisp" sound of these speakers. They do in deed sound great at lower levels but can be a bit tiresome and harsh when turned up. Not to say these aren't "loud" speakers. They are very efficient and very LOUD! I have owned these speakers for over a year and do like them quite a bit but think they sound better with certain types of music than others. For example, Blues & Rock sound great and acoustic guitar music is exceptional on these speakers but classical music is compressed and not musical. Also, vocals can sometimes be harsh if the volume is high. I have tried these with different amp/receiver combos and have had pretty much the same results.

Despite what some listeners have reported here, the RF3's do have very good bass and also have decent treble. The mids lack smoothness and detail though they aren't bad.

Depending upon your desired listenting level, amplifier power, and music type these can be great speakers. If you like a wide variety of music, you may want to get a more versatile speaker that is a bit warmer with vocals and classical music.

If home theatre is your forte, these speakers are excellent and are hard to beat.

Strength:

This is an update on my previous review.

Weakness:

?

I now know what the rf-3 is capable of. Hooked up to the 4 channel ATI amp in bridged mode, these things have come to life, my sub has to be on level 7 of 10 to be present, amazing ,concert life levels only cleaner sound! 130 db plus, I bet,its a good thing I live in the sticks(lol). The bass is lower than I previously thought, feed these speakers with tons of power and they come to life! All my cd's seem new now . The cool thing is there is no tweeking necessary no bass or treble boost and I can sell my EQ! Power sonic perfection and most of all the enjoyment of getting lost in sound....

Strength:

Large soundstage, clarity, looks.

Weakness:

none

I have had these a few weeks now, I got them to match my RC-3 center. They match perfectly with the RC-3, and while both are loud, they don't drown out the center, although they probably would if I were using any other center. The RF-3's are extremely clear and sound great to all kinds of music. In Dolby Digital, they bring out sounds I never heard with my old speakers.
In response to the last review, I also bought mine at Ultimate Electronics, and I told the rep I could get them at another local dealer for $625, so he gave them to me for $570. Remember when you are dealing with electronics that there is a lot of room to haggle. They will give you a deal if you know how low you can get them for elsewhere, as long as they are selling them above cost, they will want to give you their business. You will probably want to deal with a manager, they seem more apt to cutting deals than new employees.

Strength:

Sound, incredible highs, bang for buck, sound..

Weakness:

None that I have found, grills are fine to me.

These speakers are perhaps the best I have ever heard. No expert, just like good sound. I had heard Klipsch speakers in the past and was very impressed. There are no local dealers and I depended on past listening and this board for selection. Thanks all.. Speakers came to life when I swapped my 14 year old Sony with the Yamaha RXV1.

I am in the process of building my HT and will be buying the complete set of Klipsch Reference speakers. Currently, my system consists of:

Yamaha RXV1 receiver
Yamaha 765 CD
Yamaha Tape
Toshiba SD2300 DVD (great, despite a few bad reviews)
Klipsch RF-3 mains
Sony 20" (planning on Toshiba wide-screen)
Hughes HIRD-D45 Platinum Dolby Digital SatRcv
IXOS cables everywhere

Sony STR-AV560 (Zone 2)
JBL bookshelf’s (Zone 2)

Strength:

Excellent sound-clarity and style of speakers

Weakness:

So Far None Found

I listened to a number of different lines at local stores. The reference system provides so much more detail on CDs that I have listened to for years. I would recommend the RF3s and the complete sytem to anyone looking for a great sound at a really good price.

The System:
RF3s $569
RS3s $389
RC3 $249
KSW15 $439

Just to let you also know, I am going back to www.acousticsounddesign.com to upgrade my receiver and DVD player-They give you FREE SHIPPING if you post a review using their name!

Strength:

HANDLES 225 WATTS,REASONABLE SIZE,HIGHLY EFFICENT, TOUGH TO BEAT FOR THR PRICE ,CAN BI WIRE IF PREFFERED

Weakness:

STILL ONLY A 600.00 SPEAKER, BUT EXALLENT BUY FOR ABOVE AVERAGE LISTENER , NOT TO SURE PORTS ARE BENNIFICIEL

I am using these for rear surround speakers in a dvd audio set-up but was really impressed when sliding them in place where my two main klf 20's sit. The sound is really best when coupled with powered sub of similer class. I would challenge anyone to try to beat this speaker in the 2 -way category (subwooferless design)The beauty of this speaker as with all Klipsch speakers is the extreamly high efficientcy rating and horn design. And yes these speakers will sound bright to you if you are already listening to a crappy pair of 2 ways and dont have a reasonable sub woofer. And yes their is always the guys who just don't care for the horn design. It is something that grows on you to the point where you will usually end up back with this design after trying something else. If you can find these at this price by them. The Hell with trying em.

Efficient and the horns sound great!

Weakness:

Grill

I bought these for my main speakers on my home theater. They did sound a little bright at first while using an Onkyo TX-DS787. I bought a pair of mono-bridged Hafler DH-200's (300 watts ea.) off ebay and hooked them to the 787's pre-outs. Now they all sound great!! Best sounding speakers I've had in years for the money.
