Strength:

Very honest, uncolored reproduction of recordings.

Weakness:

Nit-picky stuff: handle grilles with care, avoid contact with woofers, etc. See other posts for details.

I've owned a great many speakers in my 25 years as a DJ, and audio enthusiast. My first paid of speakers was a pair of Infinity QA's I bought in 1978. Since then, many speaker brands have come and gone, but the Klipsch line are starting to become fixtures in my home. For the price, I've not heard anything that can compare. Vocals are clear and present, great bass (for their price/performance level) with the right equipment, no sub required for music. Strings, guitar, cymbals and mostother instruments just sound "right". DVD Movies sound just as alive, if not more so, than being in the neighborhood theater. In my shared HT/Music system, these speakers are the perfect fit. I have them paired with the other matching speakers in the Klipsch reference line.

Strength:

clean mids tight bass hungry for power

Weakness:

none

I've had these babies for about two years now. I'm running them with a B&K 140 watt amp and B&K pre-amp. I am using the Mirage BPS 400 powered sub along with them. I can't say enough about them. I demo'd them with Metallica's Black CD. It was just what the doctor ordered. The Sand man came alive. I compared them too a pair of Infinity's and Bostion Accoustic's in the same price range and it wasn't even close. These babies rock. I listen to alot of metal, hard rock, blues, and jazz. It's like no matter how much I turn them up they just sound better. I'm thinking about getting the B&K 220 watt amp. I don't know how they sound on surround cause this system is strickly for rockin the house. Between the mirage and these boys my neighbors hate me big time.

Strength:

The RF3II's have a clear clean sound with incredible high's.To test The vocal range of the highs I used the Palestrina masses with the Tallis scholars-some speakers can't touch those highs. There were a couple of high notes in Wagner's flight of the valkyries that seemed to disappear on the more expensive Bose 701's. the RF3' got them though. I thought the midrange was great. The Bass seemed a little week at first but most people like me aren't used to having a non-muddy bass. The Bass is clean and really fairly deep. The reflex port is in the back so you do need to be careful of placement(1-3 feet off the wall). I use an 80 watt per channel Technics receiver with a below .05% THD rate and a Sony CD player.I also use monster cable. If the speakers are placed right and you have a big enough room you can get an impressive soundstaging effect.

Weakness:

For good Bass the speakers can't be placed up against the walls and you have to angle them toward the listening area. placement is important for the best aural effect.

I listen mostly to classical and Jazz music, but occassionally to Rock,Pop,Choral music. Being married I had put off the replacement of new speakers for as long as I could. I auditioned about 100 plus name brand speakers with the same tracks of music and I narrowed it down to Klipsch over paradigms.

Strength:

Highs are excellent and pleasing, lows and bass are tight, but not overdone. Awesome LIVE sound, especially for the price.

Weakness:

Grille design is lousy and breaks easily, logos fall off. Could not get them in cedar or light brown finish. Somewhat to cold of a speaker.

The RF-3 is a very detailed loudspeaker. Highs are excellent and pleasing, lows and bass are tight, but not overdone. I definitely recommend adding a good-sized sub woofer. Mids are not exceptionally pronounced, and lack the punch that I have heard in other Klipsch speakers. The RF-3 is clearly a VERY BRIGHT loudspeaker and is not for everyone, but the produce a very clean sound that is superb! These are not very warm speakers, but this can be adjusted for with proper upholstery. I moved them from a room with little upholstery to a room with some carpet and fluffy couches and drapes, and in there they sounded the best. They are a VERY FUSSY speaker as far as positioning but the soundstage is excellent. Sweet spot is narrow. My biggest dissatisfaction with this product was the midrange being only mediocre.

Weakness:

You will love em'''''''' so good, you''''''''ll want more. This I suppose is my weakness.

I owned these for 11 months, then traded in for full refund for rf7 set up.I had polk rt55 before, the klipsch totally blowed the 55''''''''s away in all aspects!Highly recommended, you will need a good sub,but I still use 3 subs w/rf7''''''''s,subs will get down to lowest hz,and lighten your speakers load.

Strength:

All Klipsch speakers have a 1 watt sensativity. Most speakers out there have a 10 watt sensativity, which means that by the time most speakers are starting to play sound the klipsch are already getting loud. At 125 watts per channel played through a 5.1 DTS format, this system rocks.

Weakness:

The Klipsh RF 3 speakers alone do not have enough bass to carry in a large room. Throw in a Klipsch KSW 10 subwoofer and your problem is solved.

I am currently running 2 RF3 II for my mains, 2 RF3 II for my surrounds, a RC-3 for my center channel, and a KSW-10 subwoofer. I have a Sony 550ES receiver, and a Sony DVD player. I have aproximately $3,000 into the system, and dollar to dollar I would put my system against any system out there.

Strength:

BANG for the BUCK!!! Clarity, realism, and the ability to handle POWER. If you like strings/keyboards you will be in heaven. HT use...forget going to the movies, just wait for the DVD''s to come out.

Weakness:

The finish. I would have liked the option to buy these with the Maple finish like the RF5/7''s. I can''t imagine how those could sound better, but they certainly look better. As a note, I have not had any problems with the grills since I broke a peg putting it on a speaker. I called Sounddistributors and they sent me a new one ASAP...no charge.

PART2 While the Monster Cable speaker wires made a big difference, I was still missing the bass my Sansui provided. After doing a lot of research I found out the "old" receivers of the late 1970''s (Sansui/Pioneer/Marantz) were actually built with one purpose...POWER/MAXIMUM RMS WATTAGE. This they certainly accomplished. Todays HT receivers put out no where near the power and rely on new technology to please the listener. I was told a good subwoofer would solve my problem. I am now in the market for a Velodyne subwoofer. In the mean time I was also told and read about the so called "break in" period required for the RF-3''s. I had never heard of "break in" periods for speakers and figured that was BS...WRONG! After a few months of AC DC with Angus Young and the boys rocking throughout my house I actually noticed a difference. A noticable difference. Especially the HT performance. The bass even became more pronounced as time went on...especially when given more power. These things LOVE power. On the HT side the lack of bass is not really noticeable and now with all five speakers hooked up the system sounds literally better that the movie theater...NO BS. Music DVD''s, well it is like being in concert! In conclusion...BUY THESE SPEAKERS. Remember to use good quality speaker wire and match the speakers to a great receiver. The Integra is excellent despite the lack of bass is provides. The sub will fix that. PS...the old system...well it is doing duty in the garage, BUT with Klipsch KSF 8.5''s (Ubid.com) hooked up. The Bose 901''s...they are in the attic.
