Strength:

Everything. Sound is full-bodied and accurately reproduced. You can't beat this bang for the buck.

Weakness:

None

I have the complete set (RF3, RC3, RS3, and a KSW12). I heard the RF3s and fell in love. It took me a couple of months to save the $$$ for them but they were well worth it. I love listening to everything from classical to hip-hop from them. They can reproduce everything from a violin to hard-punching bass. I am impressed by the bass. You will need a sub for home-theater, but could do without for just music. I love the highs from the horns and I do not find them harsh. The sound is full-bodied and I now hear things in the background that I never noticed before. It has caused me to replay a large chunk of my CD collection.

I also think those lovely copper colored cones make them look as every bit impressive as they sound. (I still have not put the grills on!!!)

After I became interested in the RF3s and read the postings on this board, I knew I was heading down the right path. I have seen only one or two professional reviews, which were so-so. However, how can you dispute 60 people who own them and love them!!!! My advice is buy the whole Reference set and save $$$. You will not be disappointed.

Strength:

sensitivity, full spectrum sound from the horn yet deep bass if set up correctly

Weakness:

none for this price range

This reveiw is for those who make a judgement on a speaker in just 1 to 3 months. This speaker does produce bass extending below 30 hertz which is good for a non-powered speaker. An inital audition will not give you what this speaker will eventually become after 100+ hours of break in.I use two subs, Paradigm servo 15 and m&k 70b, and I turn these off when listening to music because I feel that the RF3's extend low enough that the subs are not needed. Set up these speakers correctly; 9 to 12 feet apart and bi-wire or bi- amp if possible.
Even speakers that costs thousands of dollars will sound like crap if you don't allow time for the drivers and other moving parts to break in. I will tell anyone that if the think this speaker sounds good at th audition, it will sound great after you spend time to break it in and set it up properly; These speakers love power too.
Still 5 stars any way you look at it.

Without a doubt, these speakers are awesome. I disagree with the recent posting that the treble must be decreased at the pre-amp to remove the harshness. I have a Sony ES receiver and have experienced no real harshness in treble. They were somewhat harsh when brand new, but they settle down after a couple of weeks.

One tip that really pays off... replace the gold plated jumpers between the binding posts with short pieces of speaker wire. Doing so smoothes the midrange considerably and improves the driver integration. Definitely recommended, especially if you're not planning on bi-wiring. My local HiFi Buys advises doing this to ANY speaker that has two sets of binding posts and I can really hear why. The best 15 minutes of work you could do.

Anyway, I really love these speakers. They're the type that have you pulling your old CD's out for another listen. At this price range or even higher, these can't be touched. I also have the matching center and surrounds, and cannot even fathom what could possibly sound better. Musicians, especially, love Klipsch's.

Strength:

Sound, appearance, quality, manual, company website, packaging, logo design, receptionist is friendly, everything.

Weakness:

I don't have enough money to buy all of them.

Tough to rate and rank speakers with words. Here's all you have to do - go to any room and listen to these speakers next to any other pair within $1000 of whatever they're charging for the RF-3's. These blew away an entire room of Energy's at the audio store I purchased them at, the pair of BIC's I had in my old system, and a pair of MBQuarts at a friend's house who almost bought the MB's and now owns these speakers.

Continuous 200watts, peak at 600. I have run through a Carver 806x bridged (266) with amazing results. Match these up with the RC-3 center and you're set.

Home theater use only might be a waste of their power and ability, these speakers rock for pure audio.

Strength:

Very Efficient, Detail, Performance for price, Looks of Drivers.

Weakness:

No Major, I don't mind the finnish as much as other people do.

I have had them now for three months and I love them. For the price there wasn't anything close. They are extreemly well built and the sound is clear and precise. I have one complaint but I think it is with my reciever not the speakers, I have a denon 1600 that hisses through these speakers. I think it has to do with the effeciency of these speakers. I cant wait to get a better reciever. I did look at other speakers.
I liked the Definitive tech 2004 better for movies, until I bought a sepparate powered sub for my system, and I liked the B&W 603 s2's better but I should for the price difference. I think I got the best speakers made for the price. I love the look of the speaker. I was supprised at how much bass the speaker had once it was in my living room. The stores' concrete floor, huge room, or speaker placement from the wall didn't really give them justice in that aspect. I still think a powered sub is needed for movies, the lobby shooting spree in the matrix is a great example of this, but for music I like my sub but don't feel it is as necessary, unless it is Rap or Dance music.
All in all I love the speaker and for the money I couldn't have made a better choice. These speakers will be with me for years and I have no doubt that they will continue to please my ears.

Strength:

Efficiency, detail, power handling.

Weakness:

Hard sounding in the mids if not EQ
Bright in the mids at high volume if not EQ'd. Placement important. Packaging is sub-par.

I have owned the Klipsch RF-3's for only one day, and I am pleasantly suprised and delighted. I will give a follow-up review once I bi-wire and EQ them some more. I have never been a fan of horned transducers, but I felt it only fair I try them before climbing the money ladder for some PSB's or Monitors. I auditioned them today (floor demo, broken-in) and found them quite responsive if somewhat hard in the mids. This effect decreased with height off-axis to the horn. I suspected the room and source power component (Sony AV reciever), but it was my only option. I decied to trade in my 'digms and give the RF-3's a go. When I got them hooked up, I noticed the chalkiness of the mid was diminished substantially, but I had to EQ the midbands and high down a notch to achieve a more balanced sound akin to my old Paradigms. Once this took place, the veil dropped and I saw what these great speakers are capable of. Smooth, accurately detailed high, solid if somewhat forward mid, and good, tight mid-to-upper bass articulation. One note: placement is crucial with these as bass reinforcement from walls/corners will give a chestiness to the upper bass, especially male voice (check out "Mother" by Pink Floyd), and the soundstage will be shallowed and shifted left or right depending on room architecture. These speakers WILL NOT go brittle at high volume, and the bigger the amp you have, the better. The sonic landslide these produce is nothing short of astounding! Bi-wiring may clean and balance the mid some more (can't wait to tinker!)For the value, no other speaker in the $500-$1000 range even competes with these. Overall, however, I still give these RF-3's 4 stars instead of 5 for the EQ needed, but this is purely subjective (or is it?).

There is nothing more that can be said about these speakers! They are simply fantastic!!!
They like lots of power, and the more that you give them the better they sound. Buy a pair, (or two, I did :-)You wont regret it. Don't let one bad review out of 44 scare you away from these wonderful speakers. One bad review is just one persons odd opinion, 44 good reviews is a true testament to the speakers performance! They have an enveloping soundstage and a smooth live sound!!! I rate these speakers a true 5 stars.

Strength:

Efficiency. Super Dynamics. Musicality. Punchy. Very live sounding.

Weakness:

I was comparing these to a $20k Avalon loudspeakers and the RF3s seem to lack the ultimate transparency(RF3s are solid sounding while the Avalons are ghostlike. But you might prefer solid sounding speakers). The Avalons also had a more clearly focused and defined soundstage. But for heaven's sake the Avalons cost 20k! Besides the Rf3s have better dynamics.

I hear many of you complaining about harshness. Well you must understand this is a high efficiency horn speaker. So if you use a solid state amp with an active preamp on the Rf3s you are asking for trouble! For these to perform at their full glory, try using a well designed low powered tube and a *buffered* passive preamp.

5 stars for value. And 5 stars for overall as to be fair, I can only compare them with products at this price range and they are king at that.
