I got these for $750 as a demo from a store in NY, and for the price, they can't be beat. I had listened to the whole OM range in several stores, and was leaning towards the OM12, as it sounds almost as good as the OM10 for almost $400 less. Soundstage on the OM10 is huge, but imaging is not as precise as some front-firing speakers: if you don't like the bipolar sound, you won't like these.
I would give them 5 stars but for their retail price: I think the OM12 sounds almost as good as these and for a lot less money. If you can find a good deal on them like I did, though, they're great.

After listening to these speakers for a week, I couldn't wait to get on here and give my five star review. I've listened to music and dvds and found the OM10s perfect for both. I chose the OM10 with the hopes that it would broaden the sound stage in my irregularly shaped room over the garage (wider than it is long). Boy does it work! Although you cannot get pinpoint imaging from the OM10s, walking around the room in and out of the sound field results in little audible difference. The room reverberates with sound, sounding just as good in front of the screen or feet from the rear speakers (OMR2). In fact, they still sound great when you are literrally kissing the sides of the speakers. Combined with OMR2s and and OMC3, my home theater system is complete. I am now an ominpolar fan and simply cannot say enough good about these speakers.

Initialy I bouth these speakers and was very pleased. Then when I listened more I realized that something was missing. I took them back to the store and lined them up with a pair of Totem Staff's. The staffs BLEW them away, they aren't as loud of a speaker but the soundstaging and Imaging was much much better. Even though the Totem costs more then the Om-10 it is worth the upgrade. The OM-10 is a poorly made mass production speaker with little attention given to quality construction and parts.

I'm sure Jake is happy with his Totem's but for $699 the OM-10s are just a deal I couldn't pass up. Turns out the local Home Entertainment in Dallas got there hands on a few of these and decided to put them on sale over the Labor day weekend. I had actually gone in to listen to a set of Boston's that a friend told me about. The sales man asked me to listen to the OM-10s and I was just astounded that a speaker could delevery such warm sound and especially at that low of a price. My wife loves them as well and they sound great as the front channel in movies as well as for CDs. Mirage keep up the good work.

Strength:

Detailed bass, magical soundstage, excellent low volume listening ability

Weakness:

Highend, midrange could be better, but, I thought I could do better and may have found out that somethings just cannot be improved without sacrificing the things you love about what you have.

OM-10 owners beware. I just traded up from the OM-10's to the OM-7's and I have to say that I miss the 10's. They are magical in the way they sound. After a long day at work I would come home and listen at low volume, any volume really, to my OM-10's and my eyes would literally roll back in my head. These speakers are absolutely amazing at what they do. Are they the best speaker, of course not. But, for what I paid I cannot image a better speaker at twice the price. I feel they out do my new OM-7's in many ways. I have not given the OM-7's a chance to break in yet and I'm praying that they will affect me in the same way that the 10's did. I was motivated to trade up by a one year trade in policy. After listening to the 10's for a year I thought I wanted a better midrange and slightly better high end. I already have a subwoofer, Mirage FRx-15, so the OM-5's were not needed. All types of music sound good on these speakers. I have yet to find something that does not sound good. The Cranberries sound exceptional. Yo Yo Ma will leave you breathless. Am I sorry I let my 10's go, time will tell. If I had bought the OM-7's first I probably would have no regrets. I just expected the same only better.
Mirage, I do not know why you discontinued the OM-10's in your lineup. If the Om-9's are as good then you have a winner. All I can say is that I have NEVER owned a speaker that held me spell bound like the 10's.
Do yourself a favor and find a new pair before they are gone.

Strength:

Dispersion of sound, slightly laid back highs prevent listening fatigue, clarity, build quality, good solid set of binding posts

Weakness:

Easy to hear dropoff below 36 Hz (can be compensated for with use of a sub), finnicky positioning, interconnects and speaker cable make a huge difference, lenghty break in time

When I first hooked these speakers up to my home theater system, I knew they were worth the $600 dollars I'd paid for them, but I was unsure whether they were worthe the suggested $1200. The midrange was a bit muddled, the highs were a bit harsh, and the sound just couldn't envelop me. But after a few days of breaking in, I decided to give them a better listen, and was pleasantly surprised.

The harsh high end had smoothed out considerably, the midrange's presence became clearer, and the drivers seemed to work in unison to create a very impressive, detailed, natural soundstage. I decided to disconnect my "desperation" monster cable, and connect a pair of DIY Cat-5 10 gauge speaker cable, which used the design by Chris Venhaus. Now they were starting to sound like a pair of high-end loudspeakers. The clarity and detail increased immensely, the bass became tighter and deeper, and the sound "perked up" after originally sounding too laid back.

I decided then to go ahead and make another pair of silver interconnects, also designed by Chris Venhaus, which I was currently using and still am using in my stereo setup. After some more breaking in with the new cables and interconnects, I noticed an even further improvement in the clarity of the high end.

However, the positioning of these speakers did take some experimenting. Because of their omnipolar design, if placed to closely to the rear wall, the sound may be distorted due to room reflections. Placement too close to the corners can result in boomy bass. I also had to compensate for individual volume levels, due to an L-shaped nook in the front left corner of the room. It was giving the left speaker some added "volume" due to room gain, so I slightly increased the volume of the right channel, which matched the two speakers perfectly.

Although I wouldn't suggest these speakers to someone with a small room (Mine is about 18x24, with a 15 foot ceiling, giving plenty of room to breather) with some careful positioning, the right selection of components and cables, and some good break-in time, these speakers can sound more like speakers costing several thousands, rather than $600. With the inclusion of a subwoofer to pick up the low end, these speakers are unbeatable for the money.

Strength:

Openess of sound. deep bass, detailed when playing ,usic with many instruments. Size. power , biwirable

Weakness:

None that i know of.

Great speakers that can meet anyones musical needs. Although it may not be in demand, a good subwoofer will even increase these speakers preformance when using them in a home theater setup. I would prefer these to many people on a budget for a system.

Strength:

Excellent highs, mids, and surprisingly...bass.

Weakness:

NONE

Excellent buy at $700. Used to retail for $1200. I listened to many speakers prior to buying and the closest speaker that I heard that even came close was the Boston Acoustics VR965. I already have a Klipsch KSW-12 subwoofer and the built-in subwoofer in the Bostons I thought would be a little overkill. Plus..the Mirage OM-10 is a great looking addition to my home theatre. The are just beautiful. The match nicely with my Mirage FRX center channel and I am very happy with my purchase. I recommend them highly...if you can find em. :)

Strength:

Brilliantly detailed sound, Tight bass, Nice cabinet

Weakness:

I never cease to be amazed at how well these speakers work. My decision to purchase was a very careful one, but the OM-10's handily won over the (much more expensive) competition every time I compared them. They have clarity and response that yields an extremely warm and transparent sound, so much so that one almost forgets they are listening to speakers. The OM-10's have very potent bass too, as they can shake the walls on command. A previous review best described them as: 'Incredibly Seductive'. Mirage has made the highlight of my little sonic oasis. If you find a pair, don't hesitate to pick them up. You won't regret it!

Also .. Tweeter gets high marks for their customer service.
