The first thing one notices about these speakers are they are their fit and finish. One rarely sees furniture quality finishes in the under $500.00US range. I compared these to the KEF Q-50, a great little speaker in its own right, but chose these over the KEFs simply because they appeared to be the better value; fit and finish being the compelling decision-maker. But let's get to what is important. These speakers sound wonderful IN THE RIGHT SET-UP. It's not just ones choice of components, but also the size of the room. These speakers cannot manage in a large room, but excel in a small room. In fact, if one uses a corner placement in a small room, no subwoofer is necessary at all. The bass control on my Nakamichi AV-1s is flat, and the sound is full and lifelike. The sound is also crystal clean, unmuddied, and there do not appear to be any particular dull frequencies in their range. I am very impressed. The only speakers this size to compete with these Missions are the KEF Uni-Qs. If you need a small monitors, and can still find a pair of these, BUY THESE SPEAKERS! ! ! !

This 750 Limited Edition marks the 20th anniversary ofthe brans Mission and Cyrus. It does so with a darn
attractive little speaker finished in real rosewood
or ash veneer, with a sculpted black front. In case
you didn't understand it yet: YES, it looks like a
Sonus Faber Extrema on the cheap! Price is around $400,
and only 7000 pairs are made.

The tiny woofer is a new Aerogel afair with a handsome
copper phase plug. The tweeter is Mission's silk dome.

This all makes this more a lifestyle product than a
real audiophile (fool?) speaker: it is not the best
sound source at the price. While sounding wholy
competent, treble can be a bit bright, bass is not
very well defined, and the image 'gels' too much
to the cabinets. 3.5 stars would be appropriate

But neither is it a bad speaker, and many will enjoy it.
Well, not that many, given this 7000 figure ;-)

Strength:

gorgeous fit and finish (rosewood)

Weakness:

availability (limited production)

I must admit, the look and feel of the "real wood" veneer, had me sold right off, but the sound room clinched it. I listened to them with a top end Denon av receiver (4500?), and they sounded absolutely magnificent for a pair of $600.(can.)bookshelves. I'm not an audiophile, so bear with my description. The biggest impression they left me with was that they sounded so very, very rich. Much warmer than my mid size B&W's, and yet still seemed quite full range for such a tiny little set. I personally like their "bright" sound. Although naturally they'r alittle light on bottom end. I havent had the chance to hook them up to my Luxman amp and Paradigm powered sub, but I'm sure it will entertain our dinner parties as well as make the latest action movie really whale. I splurged for a heavy duty set of stands, which sets them off beautifully.
If you like real wood, and need a set of bookshelves, these little guys certainly won't disappoint; if you can still find a pair. If not I'm sure the newer 780's will do Mission proud.
