It's hard to underestimate how good these speakers are. I really suggest to anyone considering purchasing speakers at any price, go listen to these speakers first! If you are planning on spending more money on a "better" speaker, I don't think you can find one -- at least not one that justifies the extra money. If you are planning on spending less money on a more "economical" system, listening to the shear quality of the SuperOnes should make you reconsider. Simply the best speakers I've heard. Thank you, NHT!

Strength:

imaging, punchy bass, clean mids, attractive design

Weakness:

slightly hard treble

I bought these for a home theatre set-up along with an Onkyo AV reciever. I initially set up the speakers in the attic driven by the Onkyo. I immediatly realized two things, these are pretty good speakers and my attic has much better acoustics than my basement. I was very impressed with the imaging. These small boxes dissapeared, leaving a soundstage that extended well behind and to the outside of the speakers. I was amazed that I was actually getting soundstage depth from a reciever and speakers that cost $400 combined. Tonally the speakers are good but not excellent. At times the mids are slightly boxy and congested and the highs can be a bit hard and grainy. But then again, everything was right out of the box and it only cost $400 (I have to keep things in perspecitve).

I was so impressed by the speakers, that I brough them to basement to see how they would sound with better electronics. Not having stands, I placed them on top of my Vandersteen 2CEs with a little funtack and hooked them into the big stereo. The big stereo consists of a JVC XL1050 CD player sending digital signal to a theta DS Pro Basic II, amplification is a CJ PV10A boosting the signal to a Counterpoint SA 100 which has been modigfied by Michael Elliot to Natural Progression series status. Cardas high speed digital carries the digital signal, Kimber PBJ connects the electronics and MIT term 2 feeds the speakers (biwired).

The bass went considerably deeper and was a good deal tighter. The imaging was slightly better than I had heard in the attic (It is the room, I think the main stereo may be moved to the attic). The hardness of the treble was lessened and the mids were fuller, smoother and less congested. I was really impressed and now I am wondering if the Vandersteens are a significant improvement. To my relief they still were. The Vandersteens of course went deeper and created much more atmosphere, but the highs were also much smoother, better detailed and extended. The Vandersteens also had an edge in the midrange and offerred about the same imaging. My $1500 wasn't wasted after all.

The thing I discovered while listening to the Super Ones on top of the Vandy's was that to my ears was that the Super ones gave the best results when my ears were located about 6" below the woofers axis. The image had greater depth and the tweeter integrated better with mids. The hardness was also less noticiable but there was not significant rolling off of the highs. I would reccommend trying this position. BTW the speakers sound best with no toe in.

These speakers are little gems for a bedroom system, college dorm rooms or a home theater. If you have not become used to the information below 50Hz most will have no complaints with these speakers. They certainly will not replace my Vandersteens (maybe Maggies and a sub), but I am sure the will make a smoking HT set-up

Weakness:

None for this price ($260 pr.)

These speakers offer sound quality of speakers costing 5 times the price. I auditioned Polk RT 35's and the comparable Infinity bookshelf models and they did not compare. The bass never bottomed out with the NHT's and the treble was more clean and clear. Now that I added a powered subwoofer, the sound really is spectacular.

Strength:

very smooth mid-range, good highs

Weakness:

no deep bass

I've had a home-theater set-up with three NHT SuperOnes accross the front. Lately the upgrade bug started up again, so I went to an NHT dealer to see about trading up to 1.5's, 2.5i's or SuperTwo's for the left and right channel SuperOne's I have. The Superones and the other three models were all set up in the same room for comparison listening. Very convenient.

After listening to all four speakers, I walked away shocked. Overall, the SuperOnes sounded the best of the lot. Of course, they lacked the bass of the SuperTwos and 2.5i's, but from the upper bass on up they were at least the match of the other three models...and they cost the least.

Good way to kill the upgrade bug, no?

It is unfair to use these speakers as Fronts and complain about the bass lacking. These are bookshelf speakers costing $350.00 a pair. If you want fronts you can critically thrash with impunity at this price, wake up. For what you pay these are the best deal running. I love these speakers as surrounds. With my sub, they are not called upon to do (and should not be expected to do) the heavy bass. I plan to use these as remotes when I wire my entire house. Bang for the buck, these are the best audio deal I have ever encountered. Take and use them for what they are and you will be rewarded far beyond your reasonable expectations.

Well, these are my first real speakers and I'm quite pleased with them. I am a college student so I have space restrictions, therefore I auditioned bookshelf speakers. I compared these with PSB and Paradigm Mini-monitors and I found the NHTs a little smoother than the minis and much more controlled for bass. Knowing I would be living in a hole, I intentionally listend to the mini-monitors in a small room. To be fair to them, I expected them to boom, they did, but not badly and for such a small speaker they put out huge bass. I also heard them in a large HT setup and they sounded much, much better.
As to the NHTs, I am driving them with a NAD 314 integrated amp at 35/watts/channel which is plenty to push these speakers to levels that make my head hurt. I am planning to pick up a sub to fill in tyhe bottom end in the future. Now I just need a decent cd player and a whole new music collection, the NHT/NAD combo makes half of my cds sound like shit but thats fine, I would rather hear the flaws then not hear them.

I ordered a HT setup by mailorder with Super One(rear), Super Two(front), Super Center and a Yamaha Sub. Got the Super One:s early so I hooked them up to my current amplifier a NAD C320 (I have ordered a Pioneer Elite Reciver) and woooow what superb sound these very small speakers manages to put out :)They actually sounds much better than some much more expensive floor standers i have heard.

And the Super Two's are on their way to me... hehe

Highly recommended!

Strength:

Good Bass

Weakness:

Weak treble and Low Dynamic

I bought the super One last month and I feel that its treble is weak but with a good mid-range bass. I use a Sony Str-828 to drive it. This M has 100W each channel. When play 5.1 movie with the super one, the dynamic range is very narrow. Some sudden explosion cannot be fully reproducted. As to the treble, it gives me a very weak feeling. My M can handle it easily. However, no matter I turn the volume to which level, it treble is still weak resulting in making the sound going to very back. The vocal seems can never come out and hide behide, hide very deep.

Strength:

sound quality, attractive, top rated

Weakness:

none, but a touch shy on the bass

I have owned two pairs for two years now.
They sound fantastic. Smooth, even, airy.
They look elegant.
Have 5 way binding posts (I use spade connectors).
Stereo Review, Audio, Home Theater, Smartmoney rave about
them. But, the British magazines say they are average.
Prices range from $265 - $350 per pair.
Mine have had no defects/problems at all. Perfect!
Only two minor gripes.
At times a bit bass shy, but this is probably more accurate.
Competing loudspeakers from PSB, Paradigm, B&W, and Tannoy
sound excellent also, and some are cheaper (i.e. Titan,
Alpha, 302 etc.).
One of the best loudspeakers for under $500.
If inferior amp or cd player is driving these mini-mites,
they will not sound as good. I use a Sony ES player.
You can safely buy these with no regrets.
