I just traded in the Polk RT100 pair to get the NHT VT-2 pair and boy, I am glad I did. No doubt, these are one of the best speakers money can buy today. To make it even sound better, I biamped the VT-2 pair with an NHT-SA3 power amp via my DENON receiver's pre-out Front Left & Right. This combo is a killer, specially the bass response. To complete my AC3 home theater system, I also bought a VS-2 as center, and two HDP-2 as surround spkrs. Highly recommended!

Strength:

What can i say? i'm lost for words!! Sounds are great everywhere.movies and music sounds fabulous! Upgraded from the ever-reliable NHT VT1.2.Been using that for more than 3 years now and it has served me well. But the Vt 2 is simply astounding!bass are deep, big soundstage, vocals are crisp.....nice finishing (black piano) and it stand proudly in my living hall. Thanks NHT for your products!Using them single bi-wire using AudioQuest Gibraltar........

Weakness:

None..only that it reveals POOR Recordings!!!!!

NowHearThis................What a wonderful phrase.......
maybe my speakers ia a bit power hungry,so maybe next time i would lke to change my amp to Denon AVCA1SE!..NHT VT2 is simply great.honestly! And furthermore it stands nicely beside my Panasonic 100Hz 51" projection TV!t controls music the way it should be.What a wonderful PERFORMANCE by NHT!!!!!Long live NHT!!!

This is perhaps one of the best music/theater combination I have ever had the listening pleasure to come across. I tried Infinity, JBL and neither of those could even offer the clarity and depth this speaker could. I also tested it many musical genres from rock to psychedelic trance to classical and each time the highs, midranges just don't fail to amaze me. Trust me when I say this that the NHT company really does care about their image as affordable but respectable performance speaker makers.

Whew....I have spent hours and hours over the past 2 days reading reviews on many, many different speakers. I have dug through back issues of Stereo Review, Audio, What Hi Fi and Audiophile, not to mention the 3 hrs. I spent at this web sight. About 6 months ago I started my upgrade. After auditioning many A/V receivers and some seperates, I went with the Onkyo TX-828. (I don't care if it's from last years catalog, it's sweeter than the 838, and more practical than the 939). About 2 months ago I began the speaker search. Just to keep the picture clear here, audio is my first priority, and than home theatre. I don't want to insult the "AUDIOPHILES" out there, but if buyers are patient enough to try many, many combinations, I can't see paying tens of thousands of dollars for a system that is marginally better. (Unless you have to out shine your friends.) There is a LOT of good equipment out there, but you have to be patient and try many combinations and find the one that suits you!!! Not the dealer.
Speaker shortlist for my receiver: B&W 803's, the Definitaive Technology BP2002, 2 sets of Monitor Audio's. I was very high on the 803's. I didn't even consider NHT. I wandered past the retailer from whom I bought my receiver and figured it never hurts to just stop in.

When I went in he had Jurrasic Park playing through the VT-2. WHEW.... That's when I came home and started the research through reviews.

Many of the reviews that were in this sight (about the NHT Towers in general) are VERY ACCURATE, and I would like to thank all those who spent the time to give their candid thoughts. The 2 things which are pretty consistent through each review is that (A) These speakers reveal everything on the CD, whether good or bad and (B) they are power hungry. I just got back from an hour and a half of listening to the NHT 2.9, the VT-2 and just to sprinkle in some diversification the B&W 604 and a big expensive set of Pro Ac's (sorry did't look at the model).

Since I trusted the reviews from this page, I brought about 40 of my CD's with me ranging from Julian Bream (classical guitar) to Mary J. Blidge (funky pop). I was afraid to hear the worst of every CD. We used the Onkyo 838 for the test (because it most resembles my home unit) and I will point out that, if you already have your receiver/ or amp and are not upgrading, match the power supply closely when audtioning these speakers. (I did so because of everyone's pointing out they are power hungry) The VT-2 outshined the 2.9, but I think mostly because of the power (or lack of power needed by the 2.9) For 90-140 amp power, (generally speaking) I would go with the VT-2. When we stepped up to a powerful Krell, the 2.9 showed what they were able to offer. The real difference is a deeper soundstage on the 2.9. And now that I mentioned soundstage, that is the first thing you notice. Even if you don't truly understand "soundstage" now, after you listen to these you will". Seal sounded great!! ZZ top antenna kicked!!! Soul to Soul.....I was in heaven. But the crest was DAVE MATTHEWS/ Say Goodbye. They really are true speakers, and when the CD is engineered well you just smile.

I was thinking that maybe some of the reviews I read were a bit too harsh on these speakers. I listened to about 25 CD's, across many muical ranges and they were clean and revealing, and forunately, did not make me dislke some of my favorite music. All good right??? Then I put in Aerosmith, 9 Lives. I almost puked!!! And I like these guys. Then I put on the Forrest Gump Sountrack (a birthday present I swear) I brought this because it has recordings that span 3 decades and I thought, would be a good test to how revealing these speakers were. The answer...VERY.. This was also painful to listen to. But I think this is 2 fold. This sounded like crap because they are engineered like crap, and the other stuff sounded so good, that I wanted a bullet in my head when there was such disparity. Just for consideration, another CD I brought along with me was Ray Charles/ THE ATLANTIC YEARS. I figured this was sound like crap since the masters are so old, and I thought this would be the one CD that would be ruined if listened to throught these speakers. There was noticable background noise, but I expected that because I think they used a Craig cassette player and a mono mike to record the masters. But other than some background hiss (which I could accept due to the age of the recordings) the music and Ray's voice sounded very good.

In short (I'm sorry I really did want to make this MUCH shorter) I am getting these speakers this week. I suggest these are given a GOOD listen, which means matche it properly and listen to many CD's. I told the dealer that if the Aerosmith or Forrest Gump CD's were the first I listened to I would have told him to turn them off and try something else. By the way the B&W's don't compare(But they are not supposed to) and the Pro Ac's are nice, but a little to warm and "boxed in" in the middle.

I looked at several different setups before settling on the VS-2's actually. I went with 5 VS-2's for full 5.1 HT setup. However once I got everything up and running I was totally blown away with the regular listening quality. I was VERY impressed with the audio listening setup I now had. I cant recommend these enough, if you are wanting to move to 5.1 HT. You will be amazed with the regular cd listening setup you will have.

I've been bitten by the audio bug. Having the pleasure of listening to systems that most would consider an audiophiles dream come true, such components as the Ayre K3 preamplifier with phono stage, Ayre V3 amp - Kimber innerconnects and bi-wired Vandersteen speakers. Lets not forget the Linn Mimik CD player, last but not least the Linn LP12/Lingo turntable with, trampolin and a Kyde cartridge...sipping a 18 year old Scotch - listening to Diana Krall or Stevie Ray's magical blues - no matter what's playing it just sounds incredible! It's nice to have good friends...
On the topic - after listing to such components (listed above) I went on a mission to find a speaker (within a realistic budget) that would satisfy both audio & video sound reproduction with a quality that would thrill me with...rimshots, silky vocals and a bass response that sends chills down your spine. I FOUND them! The NHT VT-2 has proven to be a very satisfying addition to my home theater listening as well as a speaker that delivers audio reproduction the way I want it to sound. Before purchasing my beloved VT-2's I listened to just about everything from A to Z. I visited many audio dealers that carried hi-end components (systems ranging form $5000 to over $50,000). Needless to say I learned allot of technical jargon (specs). In (my opinion) specs mean diddy squat until you bring it home and listen. You owe it to yourself to just listen to these speakers before making a final decision.

My VT-2's are connected (MIT Termminator 2 Bi-Wire and innerconnects) to a Carver HTR 880 and a SD/A 360 CD player. However, I'm sure separates will drastically improve the sound quality, and would really appreciate any suggestions for separate components (not limited to Carver) I would love to purchase Ayre, but out of my price range. If anyone owns Carver separates and could share their thoughts please send an email response. If email link doesn't work from posting - goto URL: shga.com - I'm a freelance website designer.

ps. I will be purchasing the NHT VS-2a Center channel...great combo with the VT-2's.
