Strength:

Completely transparent, handle power well, very aesthetically pleasing, these speakers are beautiful in every way

Weakness:

None that I have experienced

What an incredible speaker. My audio shopping/listening quest began with looking for a new receiver, but ended up being the most significant investment I have made since I bought my last car. No complaints though, I would gladly do it all over again. I made a valiant attempt to keep the price tag under $1000, but I just couldn't find anything I was happy with. One of the biggest challenges I had was that I live in an apartment and would certainly get evicted if I had a subwoofer, so I wanted something that delivered the entire spectrum of sound. Here's the list:

PSB: Several models: Nice speakers, but each model was lacking in something, mostly mid range though.
Klipsch: RF-3, RP-3: these were really nice, and for the money probably one of the better speakers you will find. The sound just wasn't as rich as I wanted it to be.
Monitor Audio: Silver 5i, Silver 9i: These sounded pretty good with a subwoofer hooked up, but without that, oh please. They were quite shrill and didn't image very well.
Martin Logan: I listened to some of these for fun more than anything else, and discovered that they absolutely are not general purpose speakers. Great for jazz and the like, but really lacking in reproduction for some types of music and especially home theater.
KEF: Pretty nice, but still lacking in the midrange, very similar to PSB.
Sonus Faber: These speakers are really pretty nice, but just didn't quite do it for me.

NOW HEAR THIS:
For those of you who didn't know what NHT stood for.
Be aware, I listened to speakers for 6 solid weeks. I always carried my own music with me, and I always tried to listen to different speakers on the same amplifier. It only took about the first 60 seconds of the score of Apollo 13 to realize what I had been missing. "That is exactly what that music is supposed to sound like!" I thought to myself.
And after all of that listening, these beautiful creations exclaimed to me, "you have heard the competition, and been let down and dissapointed, NOW HEAR THIS!" The imaging, the soundstage, the transparency, everything was as close to perfect as I have ever heard. I went back to the store again and again to hear them on different amplifiers and receivers, including my own, and every single time I was amazed. I even took some audiophile friends to the shop with me to make sure I wasn't losing my mind, and they heard the same amazing things that I did. I probably spent about 15-20 hours just listening to the VT-2's. And now that they are sitting in my living room... I cannot describe to you how exstatic I am about my purchase.

My system is composed of:
Receiver: Sony STR-DA777ES
Speakers: Front Channels: NHT VT-2's
Center: NHT VS-2A
Rear Channels: NHT SuperOne XU
Speaker Cable: AudioQuest Crystal for front and center channels, and AudioQuest Type 4 for the rears.(Cables do make a difference folks, a big difference)
DVD: Sony DVP-530D
Television: Toshiba 36" Cinema Series (Glass Tube)
CD: Optimus 25-disc changer w/optical out
MiniDisc: Sony MDS-JE510 (don't ever buy one of these)
Interconnects: various (RadioShack, MonsterCable)

For any of you who might be interested in some of these speakers, I bought mine from Dynamic Audio Visual in Houston, TX. They are great, very accomodating helpful and knowledgable, I will buy every other piece of equipment I ever buy from these guys.

Strength:

Terrific response to power, true to the source. Excellent.

Weakness:

none

After much auditioning and comparing, I definitely made the right choice with the VT-2s. They reproduce sound accurately for both DVD and music. The best part is the louder I play them, the better they seem to sound. I am blown away by the accuracy and speed of these speakers. A terrific choice for home theater in every aspect.

Strength:

Soundstage!! Bass is very tight and focused.

Weakness:

None so far

Well let's see, there's not much left to rave about. I've had these speakers about 6 months now and I've loved every minute of my decision since. They are currently being powered with a Sony 777ES receiver (an excellent combination) and I will soon try biamping as I have heard that this increases the depth and dynamics even more. I tested the vt 2.4s also before buying and there was a subtle difference, not really worth an extra 250 that could be used towards an amp. Also it seemed with the rear firing drivers on the 2.4 it seemed the sound was a little more colored and not as revealing as its predecessor.
The statement made that the louder you play them the better they sound is very true, you don't realize how loud they are until the walls start shaking. I've actually fallen asleep watching dvds at a high volume because the headroom was so huge and they don't sound pushed, just very smooth. Even without biamping the vt2s, they outdid all of the above products mentioned. The polks and infinities I listened to had an internal amp and were no where near as clear, or produced as clean bass response.
The paradigm series 100 sounded excellent and were probably the closest to the vt2s, they definitely had their own signature sound and comparing these 2 gets to be just a matter of taste. The paradigms actually seemed a little more revealing and slightly clearer but didn't have near the soundstage as the vt2s.
In short, if your local dealer still carries these do not hesitate to buy. I would recommend buying from an authorized dealer as NHT is very strict on their warrany. (I have called them on the phone and they have great customer service) I believe it when other reviewers say that it would take 2 or 3 times as much money to sound any better.
