Strength:

Very wide but precise imaging, excellent sound reproduction and very low bass for those dts or 5.1 dolby movies.

Weakness:

At this price range and even up to the $1500 category - there are NO weaknesses in this speaker.

First off, if you live near the Canadian border, buy these speakers or any other Paradigm product in Canada.(based on the prices I've seen in previous reviews-and the Monitor 7 v2 speakers I bought were made Jan 18, 2001).
Back to these speakers, I spent hours in the dealers sound room compairing all the model speakers made by Mirage & Paradigm and fell in love with the Mirage OM 7, but couldn't afford them. The second place speaker in my mind was the Paradigm Monitor 7's and to my surprise they were very, very price friendly. When I brought them home I was surprised by all the new sounds I could hear in my dvd movie collection. The bass these speakers surprised me to the point where my need or want for a sub in non-existant. The only thing I want now is for these speakers to break-in after 100hrs. I guess. Read all the reviews and listen to these speakers the way my dealer sold me and that is to get what you think is a good speaker and sit them next to these Paadigms then try to pick the better of the two.

Strength:

Natural, clean and uncolored sound. Good bass for its size and drivers.

Weakness:

None for the moment.

Like I said, they have a clean sound, not too forward but neither too laidback, just perfect.
They have great bass response and good detail.
The cabinets have a good finish, although Ive seen better in speakers of this price.
Compared with the other speakers the B&W's offer better sound for classical music, but doesnt have the bass extension of the M7 in other types of music; the Mirages are very similar in sound but the M7 have better bass too; the NHT, I simply didn't like their sound; the Mission 777 series were better, more detailed and refined, but they were more expensive too.
Overall, the Paradigms offer great sound for the money.

Strength:

Huge full rich sound, tight bass, great sounding mids.

Weakness:

None yet

Just purchased these speakers 24 hours ago and I can say that I am totally blown away. I was previously using mini monitors as fronts and was very happy with them as a part of an all Paradigm home theatre system, however I felt they weren't cutting it as music speakers. These Monitor 7's v2 are incredible, I was listening to some old Beatle cds and you can actually hear Ringo playing the highhat as well as cymbals clearly. I add that I listen to mostly classic rock and prog rock and these speakers are amazing ( I'm being redundant). It is so true when other reviewers have said that it is like listening to their cd collections for the first time all over again. I cannot agree that these speakers sound bright right out of the box.I have been listening to them with dual paradigm PDR10's and the sound is, again, amazing.I did test the Axiom M60's prior to purchasing the paradigms and they are a fine speaker but they sound too different from my existing Paradigm CC350 and ADP170's.If you can afford the price difference go the extra coin to purchase these babies you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

Clean highs and mids, good solid bass, excellent construction, value

Weakness:

None that I can determine

After listening to many speaker systems, I read the reviews on Paradigm speakers and went looking for a distributer near me, (25 miles). I had listened to several speakers and when they played these for me, I knew my search was over. Although these are still new they sound far better then my previous speakers and as stated in other reviews they improve with age. They reproduce music very accurately and vocals with great presence. I have found that with music the stereo mode using only the Monitor 7's provides the most enjoyable and accurate reproduction. They are equally as good for DVD 5.1 sound but with the addition of a subwoofer for the big booming effects ie: "Enemy at The Gate". I am using a Sony STR 945 amplifier which is not as warm as a Yahmaha, Denon or Marantz. I kept my JBL SB12 as it is a very good subwoofer, not that the Paradigm woofer was inferior, just tried to keep in a budget. Briefly my system is Monitor 7's for the fronts, CC370 for the center, wall mounted Micro Monitors for the rear and the JBl SB 12 subwoofer. For the money you can not go wrong with the Paradigms. If your in the Windsor, Canada area go to Live Wire Audio they are very friendly and knowledgable and they carry a good stock. Also, if you live in the USA you can take advantage of the exchange rate and tax rebate.

Strength:

super detailed, neutral, blends well with a sub

Weakness:

required tall ceilings and lots of space to sound good

My investigation has started. Now I have revealed the weakness of these speaker for people who may buy these:
they don't sound good in small spaces. They are strikingly forward and have a ring to them if you are to listen to these in small room. If you put enough air in between you and speaker they become to sound very much natural, to the point of felling like singer is in your living room.

So beaware, monitor series is not for small living rooms, because these will eat your ear canal out if you are too close. The only speaker I have seen do that, that is far worse in that sense is B&W DM601. It was hurting to listen to those.

What is more important these are best speakers I have seen so far, when helped with sub. If you want best deal but don't want to get burnt, go to dealer, ask them to borrow
the demos over a weekend of even for a day. It will be immediately obvious wether these speakers fit your audio room.

What was most puzzling about reviews on these speakers is that most people just love these speakers. Few posts indicated that speakers sound, forward and jingly in small room - source of few unsatisfied posts with monitor series.

Strength:

Clarity, imaging, bass response, crisp highs, warm mids, excellent tonal quality

Weakness:

Demensions, No profile cabinet radius---(This improves the acoustic performance by reducing cabinet interference and assuring the proper dispersion of sound.

Years went by after I hearing my first pair of M7's in '92'. I was completely ovewelmed by the sound quality. Back then I had no money so a purchase was out of the question. Over the next decade I tried and listen to a variety of different speakers, mainly back room blow-outs and scratch/dent items from Hi-fi stores. Always in the back of my mind, nothing ever sounded the way the M7's did years ago. I have been trying to find that feeling and sound in other products but just have not. The day came last week. I was tired of the old game lets try the new line of (------) Fill in the blank, (I was thinking of Definitive Tech this time) and finally broke down . Out of the blue I bought a brand new a pair of M7's. The local dealer is right down the street. Went in and not even listening to them paid and left. I was there for maybe 4 minutes. The whole episode lasted for 15 mins at the most; from my first thought, to when I fired up Integra dtr 7.1 and listened. It was just like that first day when I really appriciated good spearkers.

If your thinking about a purchase, get a pair of the M7's. Like everyone says, you won't be happy till you do. (unless you can afford the B&W Nautilus 800 Series)

clarity of sound, high quality tweeters, and bass response is great as well, bi-wireable, price...

Weakness:

i dunno

These speakers are simply amazing. the saound they produce is great, very clear. good sensitivity too, at about 88dB i think. I keep noticing the tweeters, and how loud and clear they are. The bass response is good as well, as they go down to about 35Hz, there is a break in time for these speakers, and ive gotten enough use to hear their potential. although, they still sound great right out of the box, OHHHH-yeUHHHHHHH. It amazes me how good these sound on some movies (some movies just dont use the potential) like planet of the apes, when the pod crashes on the ape planet, WOW, BOOM. youve got to hear it. Its just very loud and clear, and so detailed, not a hint of strain. On top of all this, they can be had at a great proce too, mine were 700 with video-sheilding, you can get them without video-sheilding, which costs less...about $650 i believe. very nice, id recommend these to anyone on a budget while expecting no less than high quality, or just high quality alone!

My System:

Fronts: Paradigm Monitor 7 v2
Center (coming soon): Paradigm CC-370 v2

Strength:

Reasonable Cost, wide dispersion

Weakness:

Poor balance, hasrh highs, poor bass, unatural sound

A friend of mine just bought these speakers and was complaining that they did not sound right. He asked me to take a listen since I have several years of experience with pro sound and studio sound. My home speakers are a pair of Mackie HR 824s. They have a certified freq response of 39 hz to 22 khz +/- 1.5db.

I confirmed his results. The Paradigms are way too bright. They claim a +/- 2db response from 47 hz to 20 khz...but, based on my listening...no way. Bass is poor....it could be considered tight, but there was nothing there, and the high freq response was very objectionable....they do not sound natural. We tried several different locations/positions and could not get them to sound right. The problem with these speakers is they just don't have a good balance between lows, mids and highs....the freq response is just not accurate. When I got home I cranked up my Mackie's just to confirm my opinion, which I did...the flat freq response of the Mackie's makes them much more listenable and natural....it's all there. Even though the Mackie's are approx. twice the price, I would not expect the paradigm's even at $600/pr to sound this bad.

My friend agreed and took them back.

Strength:

flat response, monitor like bass is good, mids

Weakness:

monitor - hear everything, little too much 'Air'

These speakers give astounding quality Sound. This where people may hate this speaker. It does not have character. It does not colour music - what often people are looking for. Some music is designed for certain audience, who is preceived to have cheap speakers, so music is EQd for that speaker set,
Like Bose or boombox systems with paper cone tweeters. So there is alot of highs to break through those poorly made(10c a thing)tweeters and get to listener. What happens when you listen to CD with pair of monitor headphones/speakers plus high current AMP. Aww... these speakers if paired with hightcurrent amp are not for pop music. They show it all, probably too much. Like listening to Eurythmics there was crackling on one recording in one speaker, so I swapped wires. Bingo! its the recording. Not for nothing these speakers are called monitors, you can hear almost EVERYTHING. They are a bit biased around 10-12khz, giving little 'air' to music.

If you don't want to hear all detail in the music, go with Atoms - they are great for the parties, when paired with PS-1200 sub. Don't even think of Titans of Micros, or phantoms.
I feel little ill because these speakers don't sound like anything but what recording is, and often it is not exacty nice as is. Some blues stuff and classical sounds exceptionally proper on these.

Its like two headphones I have one is Sony, MDR 270 I think and other is Ministry of Sound dj1003. Sony sounds friendly, politely hiding details of my MP3s burned and being played on my 5 year old cheap discman. If I plug dj1003s into discman, I start to hear:
1. discmans faults
2. recording faults
3. mp3 compression fractalization(discman hides quite it quite abit)

Needless I don't use dj1003s, but at home. Seems same for the Monitor 7s. Its just they put out exactly what recording is and what recording is and what amplifier thinks of it. If yours is high current one like NAD you will hear all details of how music is done for pop crowd. It is often is unlistenable, because bass is too fast, tweeters pump out placed in highs, by recording companies. That why it is called POP music. Music for everybody, every single woofer speaker system, every mono radio and pair of 2$ headphones and uh, AM radio. These speakers do not lets anything slip by. It may be bad for YOU.
I am thinking of getting, pair of Atoms so I can listen to britney spears and prozzak. Really. Classical stuff on monitors will tear your heart out though and throw it down, make it cry and laugh. POP/Rock recordings on these speakers is a form of tourture, if recording is made for common man.

Turn down that treble!

Only thing I can find is with the carpet I have they want to lean abit

Been running Bose 301 (fronts) kenwood bookshelves (surround) and bose VCS-10 (center) and 8" Kenwood sub. I alway thought this set up sounded great hve had the systems setup for about 2 years. Living room is 12X13 I was pleased with the whole thing till went hear some good HT speaker setup.I was just amazed and the sound of the Moniter 7's and the CC-370 on the Movie "Gladiator" that was the Demo at the store we used. I knew then after that audition with these speakers that I had to have them. I had read the message boards about different receivers and was so afaid mine would not produce like the Yamaha RX-1000 that was used in the audition. But it does went and rented "Gladiator" used same scenes sounded Fantastic the Louder it got the better it sounded. my new system is as follows:
(old) TV- Mits 50703
(new) 3 weeks old Mits 4020 DVD
(new) 4 weeks old Pioneer VSX-D810S
