Strength:

These speakers strongest asset is the flat responce +/- 1.5db from 70hz and up. The mids are the clearest I've heard on speakers costing $2000 and below. The bass is like I said just right for my room, with just a hint of muddyness at the port crossover point. I wonder what these wood sound like in an acoustic suspension enclosure.

Weakness:

My old Polk RM-3000's had better imaging but that was the only thing that they did better than the Paradigm's.

I'm a poor audio nut. I went looking for a decent pair of bookshelf speakers in about the $500 range and found these for under $500 with some cosmetic damage that some puddy and a black Sharpie fixed up nicely. I was impressed after listening to the clearity and timbre nuetrality these speakers have. The bass is just right for an apartment dweller like myself and the mids are some of the best I've heard. The treble is a bit bright but my room which has hardwood floors and plaster-lath walls and ceiling. I expect that they wood be more nuetral in a room with such modern luxuries as carpet and things, but that's what treble knobs are for and turning my down does the trick.

Strength:

GREAT MIDRANGE AND HIGHS.

Weakness:

BASS IS WEAK IF YOU LIKE FULL, POWERFUL BASS.

I PURCHASED A PAIR OF MONITOR 7, V3.0'S, ALONG WITH THE PARADIGM PDR-12 SUBWOOFER. SUPERB HIGH'S AND MID-RANGE. SOMEWHAT WEAK ON BASS, BUT THE SUB PROVIDES GOOD, SOLID BASS. I ORIGINALLY WAS TO PURCHASE A PAIR OF MONITOR 11'S, NO SUB. WHEN I MENTIONED TO THE EXPERIENCED SALESMAN THAT I WAS CONSIDERING A SUBWOOFER, HE RECOMMENDED THE MONITOR 7'S WITH THE PDR-12. HE SAID THAT I WOULD BE GETTING THE SAME TWEETER AND MIDRANGE SPEAKERS AS IN THE MONITOR 9 AND 11'S, AND THE SUBWOOFER WOULD PROVIDE SATISFACTORY (EXCELLENT) BASS. HE WAS RIGHT.

Strength:

Clear at very loud levels good mid-range. Sound even better with a quility Amp.

Weakness:

Need a good amplifier to power these speakers

The Monitor 7 speakers are one of the better affordable quility speakers, they can hit a wide range of sound and never sound compressed. I recomend to use an amp with at least 200 watts a chanel, it really does wonders for the bottom end(if you use an under-powered receiver you will pay the price...no bottom end)

Strength:

Excellent detailing and soundstage especially for under a thousand dollars.

Weakness:

Black vinyl finish too easy to chip. (Newer v2 seems to have been improved)

I have been a long time audio nut (since 1972) and have never been completely satisfied with speaker sound until I started listening to the Parigm Monitor Series loudspeakers. I bought the 7''s in a clearance sale and was using them as side surround speakers in my 7.1 setup along with 9''s (v2) up front, 370 center and 3''s back surround and was totally satisfied with the sound until I decided to switch the 7''s to the front and WOW! I actually prefer the soundstage and clarity of these spekers over the 9''s and am planning to get another pair for the side. Upon reading on of the earlier reviews where the "so called expert" said it was to bright and did not sound right, I think he needs to find some other line of business. These are very revealing speakers and if the source sucks, so will what comes out of these.

Strength:

A sublimely musical speaker. Outstanding for both music CD reproduction and Home Theater installations. The Paradigm 7 offers performance on par with speakers costing many times its price. It is one of the great value-bargains of the audio world.

Weakness:

None at all. I suspect that some fans of rock and pop music will not be happy with the sound of this speaker because of the inherent electronic distortions in such program material that will inevitably be revealed. However, that is their problem and not the speaker''''s.

Folks who attribute all kinds of sonic ills to this speaker do not understand that it is a monitor which faithfully reproduces the signal from poorly engineered sound sources, as well as the distortions of the associated equipment (DVD-CD player, amplifier, receiver, etc.). The Paradigm 7 neither covers bad sound in the signal path the way warm sounding (frequency response coloration) speakers do, nor does it add any inaccuracy of its own to any part of the sound spectrum. It reproduces the entire frequency response with superb octave-to-octave balance. After two years of listening to a pair of these speakers (connected to an NAD T-550 DVD-CD Player and an NAD 317 Integrated Amplifier), I can say that the high end is beautifully luminous, the mid range is magnificently open, and the bass line is very tight, extended and superbly controlled with no spurious audible resonances. Moreover, these speakers reveal not only the tone but the inner timbre of each instrument. When listening to acoustic music (jazz, classical, opera) one can identify every instrument and hear its decay. Yet they never sound clinical, but project a well woven orchestral tapestry. They exhibit a seemingly unrestricted dynamic range that is never distorted; a transient response that is right on; and a soundstage that has impressive depth, width and height with excellent imaging and definition. Massed strings are breathtaking. Delicacy of detail is celestial. Choral ensembles are astoundingly clear with hardly a hint of annoying sibilants (unless they are in the recording). The voices of both male and female soloists are reproduced with incredible clarity, with tone colors in abundance to relish. Listening to DGG''''s 1994 release of Verdi''''s "Otello" through these speakers is an experience. The alternately heroic power and lyrical subtleties of Placido Domingo in the title role, the sheer devilishness of Sergei Leiferkus as Jago, and the ravishing beauty of Cheryl Studer''''s voice as Desdemona in a large, warm, enveloping sound is overwhelming. The undistorted dynamics of orchestral, vocal and choral climaxes send shudders through your whole being. In combination with a Paradigm CC-350 Center Speaker and a pair of Mini-Monitors for surround, DVD soundtracks are smoothly reproduced with enormous dynamics, lateral impact, great detail and exceptionally clear dialogue

Here's some good advice, dissconnect from the net,get up off
your chair, grab the car keys and your credit card and speed
like a madman to snatch up as many Paradigm speakers as you
can afford at your nearest dealer. These CANADIAN speakers
are soooooo goooood you will most likely listen to every
cd you own again just to see what you were missing.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of fine choices to look
at,especially Canadian made this year.However,price,looks
and quality are all reasons to buy Paradigm.I met a very
helpful and informed staff at Kromer in T.O. that took the
time to demonstrate many models before i made my choice of
Monitor 7's and Mini-Monitors for my home theatre.
Go and listen for yourself but make sure there is at least
a half-assed a/v receiver on the other end EH!?

Strength:

Amazing for the price.

Weakness:

What?

When it comes to bang for the buck in my opinion you can not beat these amazing speakers. Acousticly I have a very bright room so when I went shopping to up grade my KEF 104s for a full on 5.1 surround system this was my main concern. well, to cut to the chase the Monitor 7s were the jaw dropping sound that I was looking for with out the overly foward highend. These speakers are smooth and easy on the ear no fitigue form listening for long periods of time. I often do 10plus hour Movie marathons. Musically they are also a joy to behold and be held by. The sound stage is large and uncoloured. I could go on and on about these speakers insted I will implore you to go out and give them a listen they will do far better justice for themselves than I ever could.

The entire Monitor system is the best I have ever heard (in the price range)

Strength:

The bass fills up the small room, I have them in and the voices sound terrrific.

Weakness:

These speakers reveal everything in a recording causing me to wince at recordings I used to think sounded flawless. They definately can't handle the cannons in the 1812 overture at any resonable volume (but should I expect this).

I don't know what to say to as far as which products these speakers outclass and with which equipment they go best because I haven't tested many setups. I chose these over a pair of Boston Acoustics Lynfield Vr940s (because of the price not because of the sound which was just as nice) and over a pair of Energy C-6's in the connoisseur series(because I thought the paradigms sounded better and because of price). Right now my monitor 7s are mated with a Marantz SR5000 receiver and I am thourougly delighted with the result. I have no sub or surrounds at the moment so I have only been able to evaluate these speakers in a stereo setup. All I can say is wow! These speakers are lightyears beyond the muffled coloured sounds that I have been used to. The only problem is that they reveal the poor recording errors in some of my recordings but other than that these speakers really do their job well. When listening to yo yo ma the cello sounds crystal clear and bang on througout the full range of the sound the cello can produce; Glenn Gould has never sounded better on the piano; and, if you really want to test to beautiful sound stage these speakers are capable of producing just pop in the Dave Matthews Band Crash album (which admittedly will improve ones opinion of any setup) and enjoy. I got these speakers for a great price at Kiley's Electronics here in Saskatoon and unfortunately for me I don't think there is any turning back from the audiophile path I've set out on.

Strength:

Monitor 7's have it all. An almost flat response from the tight deep lows to the crystal clear highs.

Weakness:

It's to hard to think of any...

For the first couple of weeks, I wasn't so sure about my decision to buy my m7's, but as they broke in I couldn't believe that anyone could not like these floorstanders. They had enough base to shake my house and yet still deliver incredibly detailed vocals and instramentation. On songs like susan vega's caramel, every instrament is pefectly defined, there isn't any blending, and her voice is so lush and airy at the same time! I've only found a few speakers that can do that track any justice, and all of the others are over two grand. If you are serious about the system and don't have the funds these are the first speakers you should demo. These speakers are one of the first that I bought, but they'll be the last thing I upgrade!

I haven't actually owned other speakers, but I spent two months demoing before I selected the paradigms.

Strength:

Price, overall sound, mid-range

Weakness:

simplistic styling, other than that none

I was looking to up-grade speakers after going into the DVD world with a budget of $1,000. Listened to quite a few brands and bought Polk RT55 with the CS245 center from Circuit City for a really good price. After brining them home I knew immediately they were not for me. Very thin sounding, small sound stage, sound was way behind the speakers. Hey, I tried, kept them for almost 30 days and just could not stand them. Put my MB Quart One's back up and listened to good music again. Thought I was done, but went to listen to Paradigms after reading reviews from AudioReview and some mags. Basically I was after bookselves because of the very good stands I have. Listened to the Monitor 3's and an assortment of other similar sizes. Then saw the 7's and they were on sale for $472 for the pair. After a couple of hours listening to them with my CD's I was convinced these were the speakers for me. Did A/B listening with 7's, 3's and finally the Monitor 9's. The 9's were only $150 more, but to me the 7's had a much more musical sound. Richer in the mids and tighter in the bass, not lower, just tighter. The highs are wonderful, smooth and very real, with a great soundstage. If you want to know how the mids sound in speakers listen to any Mel Torme, especially "An Elegant Evening" with George Shearing, Concord JazzCCD-4294. Sorry for the long review, but the Monitor 7's have satisfied my want for speakers. I am now looking for a good deal on the 350 center channel to complete the front end of my home theater.

Do yourself a favor, find a pair of Monitor 7's and give them a good listen. By the way, bi-wire them for even more of a good thing. These have not broken in yet, only two weeks old, it can only get better.
