Strength:

Superb Sounding highs, mids, lows.

Weakness:

Height

I am currently using the Paradigm Pick.
*Monitor 7s - $600 (bi-wired)
*Mini Monitors - $330
*CC350 Center - $330
*S1000 Sub - $600

The Monitor 7s are not the tallest speakers, so achieve maximum sound quality by investing in some good stands that will bring the tweeters slightly higher than eye level.

Matched with Harmon Kardon's AVR20II Dolby Prologic - $500
This is an awesome combo that provides dynamic clarity with precise thump for under $2,500. I bought this combo back in 1998, so I'm sure it could be duplicated for much less today.

Keep in mind, if you're the type of person who likes to critique classical music, don't expect miracles from under $3000 in equipment

Good Imaging, Low Distortion

Weakness:

Way to bright, unnatural sound, poor bass

A friend of mine just bought these speakers and was complaining that they did not sound right. He asked me to take a listen since I have several years of experience with pro sound and studio sound. My home speakers are a pair of Mackie HR 824s. They have a certified freq response of 39 hz to 22 khz +/- 1.5db.

I confirmed his results. The Paradigms are way too bright. They claim a +/- 2db response from 47 hz to 20 khz...but, based on my listening...no way. Bass is poor....it could be considered tight, but there was nothing there, and the high freq response was very objectionable....they do not sound natural. We tried several different locations/positions and could not get them to sound right. The problem with these speakers is they just don't have a good balance between lows, mids and highs....the freq response is just not accurate. When I got home I cranked up my Mackie's just to confirm my opinion, which I did...the flat freq response of the Mackie's makes them much more listenable and natural....it's all there. Even though the Mackie's are approx. twice the price, I would not expect the paradigm's even at $600/pr to sound this bad.

My friend agreed and he is taking them back.

Great price, great soundstage, transparent

My parents have an expensive system comprised of B&W tower mintors and Parasound amp & preamp, etc. Being one with a limited budget, I decided that the name of the game was to find the best system for the least amount of money. As a result I went and auditioned several products, Boston Acoustic, Infinity, Mission, Etc... All of this lead me to the Paradign Monitor 7s which I have owned for several years and I have still not reached the full potiential of these speakers.

I found that as I have upgraded my receiver, the Paradigms kept giving more. My latest receiver is the Teac AG-D9320 which is an amazing value for the $. With 130 watts per channel I have cranked it and found that the Paradigms remain clear with an even better soudstage than I had previously encountered, they are equally impressive in H/T. With the Teac I am finally in a position where I can purchase additional poweramps using the Teac as a preamp and Bi-amp my speakers in order to utilize the Paradigms to their fullest.

I guess that is the best thing about these speakers is that they have grown with me and my sound freak aspirations. I realize that eventually I'll upgrade to the Paradigm reference series, however, my 7s will remain in use with the "old" system when that day comes.

You will not find a better deal out there, these are great for the entry level audiophile! Just keep in mind that with any speaker the keys to getting the most out of them is placement, the speakers environment (room characteristics), what they are hooked up to, and finally, what they are hooked up with . I suspect that one who complains about these speakers has paid little attention to these isues and as a result has been shooting themselves in the foot.

Music

Bright Bright Bright Bright.

Is it the break in? DAmnnnnnn after nearly 1 freaking year it's still too bright for my taste. Everytime i turn up the volume it tries drive me out of the room.

All this time i was hoping the sound will change....

I did alot of research since buying these speakers. There are LOTS of other options besides much hyped Paradigm speakers. Had i known what i know now i wouldn't have bought these ear piercers.

funnny

My parents seem to really dig these speakers. They said speakers are "refreshing" whatever hell that means. THey certainly ain't refreshing to me. Maybe if i'm 60 like my parents and losing my hearing they would become "refreshing" for me too. I ain't about to wait that long for them to sound good. hahaha. Shoot. Sucks to be me. Oh well live and learn.

These are great speakers. I have had them for about 2 years and I am still willing to write about them. They are truly amazing. There is no more bang for your buck. For $600.00-700.00/pr they can't be beat. Flawless with any kind of music, although I would definitly recommend a sub for bass-heavy music and/or video material. Very sensitive speakers that easily provide great sound with mostly any good receiver or amp. Very flat response and predictable at loud levels. Imaging and soundstage are excellent and can not be matched at this price by any other loudspeaker. LCR 350 and ADP 150 are great matches for Digital or just Pro Logic. Give 'em 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For $629 a pair, you can't find a better deal for such high quality speakers. The first question I asked by dealer was "Are you using a sub?" His response, "No." And I was shocked. Bass response is quick and responsive, a sub is unnecessary for music listening, while the highs were crisp and clean.
I'm new to the audio/video experience and this site has steered me to the right direction. I don't think I will consider other brands after owning a pair of Paradigm speakers.

I got a pair of paradigm 7's back in march along with a CC350 center channelback in march for $836.00 for both. I listened to the Boston's B&W and klipsch.
The paradigm's were much smoother with better high end than any of the others.
I use them in a HT and a music system with a tube amp Adcom digital processor
Monarchy DIP and an old NAD cd player. The mid-range in this systen is very
natral with very good high end. The bass is as you would expect a little tube
soft but good anyway. For home theater they cant be beat for the price, the
CC350 is a gem, it never gets caught out place. Over all a great system, if
you are looking for speakers in this price range give them a listen, you will
probably be happy you did.!!

Better speakers than the Monitor 9 - not as boomy, but still not all that clean bass. All-in-all a very good deal though. Around here Paradigm speakers offer a much better value than most, and that applies to their higher-end and lower-end stuff too.

I purchased a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7 speakers and initially was very excited. I was soon disappointed when I started examining the construction of the cabinets and realised the low attention to quality control when it came to these. The edges were not cut precisely, the vinyl had to be touched up with a black marker (these were brand new out of the box) and, although they sounded very clear and bright, I noticed a rattling sound in them on certain songs that had an upright bass playing. To verify my suspicions, I placed my ear up against BOTH speaker cabinets and heard it - one more prominent than the other. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED and brought them back to the dealer and replaced them w/ another brand of speakers.
The sound was great, but I bought them in hopes they would last a good long time, but seeing the general construction of them and lack of quality control made me decide it was a bad purchase.
Sound - 3 Stars

Quality - 1 star

I auditioned several speakers including B&W 602, NHT 2.5i, and the Monitor 5's and 7. I am using a Pioneer Elite receiver and I have a PS-1200 sub. I listened to the following CD's: Great Expectations soundtrack, Genesis - Invisible Touch, Best of Alice in Chains, Beastie Boys - License to Ill. My goal was to find a pair of speakers that offered powerful, clean low's, mid's and high's. I wanted the speakers to be awesome on their own without using my sub. The 602 was great but did not offer enough bass without a sub. Even with the sub there was a gap. The 5's were good but lacked some midrange (I noticed this particularly on electric guitar where I didn't get the warm, crunchy, distortion on tracks from Beasties and Alice in Chains). The NHT was excellent but it cost twice as much as the 7's and it isn't twice as good. The NHT was almost too perfect (synthetic?). On tracks from Genesis and Toris Amos, the NHT's and the 7's were very competitive. The 7's offered a warm and smoother transition throughout the frequency range and plenty of bass. And when I did turn on my sub, the 7's mixed perfectly with them. My only complaint is that the highs weren't as open and airy as the NHT's or 602's. I compensated by bumping up the treble a few clicks and was happy after that. The good news is that the highs are not too bright or harsh as I have heard from other speakers in the past. This speaker has a warm, detailed sound and cleanly covers a broader frequency range than any other speaker I found for under $1000.
