Strength:

Heck, just listen to Quadraphenia by the who at mid volume. Just great sounding.

Weakness:

I don't know how you can improve on these.

Very aesthetic, high quality speakers. You can tell designers were involved here, not just the sound but the look and feel were looked after. Fine sounding product all around with any style of music. My ears are very happy. I consider these to be amongst the best made anywhere. I'm a real happy customer.

Strength:

powerful, non fatiguing sound, low distortion at high levels, sound stage a bit neutral

Weakness:

needs a little more atmosphere in the upper frequencies

Just another example that cost has very little to do with great sound. Sure there are speakers that image better, have smoother bass, more clarity, but do not have a good over all balance of these. When I went looking for speakers my price cap was $2500,and I tried every thing around that range, this is what I was most impressed with reguardless of price. Giv'em a try!

Strength:

Open and detailed sound, full bass, satisfactory imaging

Weakness:

Treble a bit harsh with older recordings and authentic violins.

I listen to mostly classical and some jazz. These speakers are connected to a SonyXA20ES CD player and Cambridge Audio A3i amp with tributaries cables and interconnects. I compared Monitor 9 head-to-head with monitor 7, studio 60 and studio 80. Monitor 9's clearly had a fuller sound than 7's and 60's. They came close to 80's, perhaps with a slight difference in bass definition. Hence I would rate them as a best buy. Everything except older recordings of large orchestras sound clear, detailed, and satisfactorily defined. Authentic violins sound a little harsh though. Tilting the speakers a little upward eliminates any boxiness, and you feel like in a concert hall. Overall an excellent pair of speakers with exceptional price. I use the money saved to buy better recorded versions of the music I listen to, which sometimes makes nearly as much difference as the equipment used.

Strength:

Great size. Nice finish on the cabinet. The highs are outstanding and the bass is tight.

Weakness:

None that I've found

I bought these babies for the main purpose of home theatre use. In that respect they are excellent. What surprised me was how good they sound with 2 channel stereo as well. Awesome clarity and definition from the titanium tweeters. I have a sub so bass was not a concern for me, but nevertheless these things still put out decent bass if tuned properly. These speakers sound great and they didn't disappoint me at all. I'm impressed with the quality.

Strength:

Excellent speaker for Home Theater.

Weakness:

None, except they could be 6 inches higher

These speakers, well, all from Paradigm's Monitor series are the absolute best value for the money, hands down.

ONE THING THOUGH, you need to bi-wire them if you want to really hear the mids. It also helps with the highs and tightens the bass with these speakers. Other speakers don't benefit as much as the 9's do when bi-wired, I can only imagine how much better they would be if bi-amped!!

Strength:

About to find out.

Weakness:

None I have heard of.

Dear Reviewer's,

I am a Teenager in Houston Texas. I own the Onkyo TX-DS555 which is the same thing like the TX-DS555 exept no S-Video and DTS, but therefore 85 High Current Watts per channel compare to the 575 with 70. I also own a pair of Infinity Speakers. But now I think its time to move up in the world of great Audio. I am considering to purchase the Monitor 9's. But I live in Houston and I dont know any dealer in the city which carries this speaker. So if I want find one, I guess I have to trust all you guys and buy them of the net. I just got a Projector and a 125" Screen Wall. So I want to have these speakers for HT too. Do they really kick ASS? I need room shacking bass. Which by my room size is not hard. I have all this in a 15foot by 20 foot. Its small!!! So any detailed info on the sound please E-Mail me at overture3@hotmail.com 5 Stars for all the other awsome reviews.

Thanks,

Florian Wiegand.

Strength:

Value, Bass and Midrange, BiWire/Ampable, Versatility

Weakness:

Long break in time, tweeter is harsh at first

I was recently in the market for a full-range floorstander in the $600-700 range. Looked at PSB Century 800's and Boston VR 750's. The PSB's were a little laid back for my taste and the BA's lacked the bass I was looking for. The Monitor 9's, however, were a combination of both of the previous speakers' strengths. The Monitor 9 is a fairly forward floorstander that puts out amazing bass positioned correctly. Placement is critical, as I ended leaving mine a good eight inches away from the wall to acheive satisfactory bass response. These speakers can be driven to ear-shattering volumes if paired with the correct amplifier. I am currently using an HK3270, and it does a good job; I am going to step up to the B&K 1400 soon to get the most out of these babies. I can honestly say that you cannot beat this speaker in the price range; I listened to B&W's in the $1200 range and didn't like them as much as these.
I have these paired with the Paradigm PS-1000 sub. A separate sub isn't at all necessary, but I enjoy the extra bass myself. I often turn off my sub when listening to instrumental music because the Monitor 9's are that enjoyable.
One last point: these speakers are extremely versatile. I listen to everything from rap to rock to classical and it does everthing incredibly well.
Put these on your list to check out

Strength:

Sound quality (1st Class), Perfect spatial dimentioning, Biwireable, Low frequency (32Hz), Perfect integration with center channel for 3 Channel pro-logic and 5 channel Pro-logic, Dolby digital, and they'll put any BOSE speaker to bed!!!

Weakness:

None

These are by far the best performance speaker that I've ever listened to or have had the pleasure of listening to. I think the Monitor 9 are worth every penny. I think that if one is serious about HI-FI, you have to be serious about paying for it.

Now I could say that nothing beats a Monitor 9 speaker, but that's my opinion. What I think a great speaker is and what someone else thinks may be different. You must buy the right speaker for you, not necessarily because it's Paradigm, or B&W, JBL etc... but what you think sounds good to you.

A few things to consider when placing your speakers:

- Avoid basements (Especially ones with concrete walls)
- Avoid placing them in a corner
- Use the foot-spikes provided: this will isolate the speaker from the floor and keep the bass from muffling (which results in a booming effect)
- Position the speakers equally apart from you and angle them toward the listening area (10-20 Deg - depending on the size of your room and distance from speakers)
- Position the speakers out from the wall exactly the same distance for each speaker (Mine are out 10 inches)
- The listening room should have little furniture, and hardwood floors

A few things to consider when connecting your speakers:

- Bi-wire (This will reduce the resistance, and give the High/Mid Frequencies and the Low Frequencies a dedicated signal
- Keep the polarity the same (Positive - Positive and Negative - Negative)
- Use good cabling (12 AWG not 18 AWG)
- Have a High Current AMP or Receiver (H/K, ROTEL etc.)

I have my Monitor 9's hooked up to a Sony Receiver 100W / Channel. Although it's not HI-current, I plan on purchasing one in the near future ROTEL or H/K. I currently run the Monitor 9s in 3 Channel Pro-logic with a Paradigm CC-200 (55 Hz) center channel and they sound great. The CC-200 acts a subwoofer and actually makes the Monitor 9's sound even lower than they go in Phantom mode. I highly recommend the Paradigm Monitor 9 as the loudspeaker of choice.

Strength:

Very clear sound reproduction. Tight extended musical bass. Amazing ability to handle all types of music. Bi-wire capablility.

Weakness:

None for the price :)

I am a working college student. I have been researching and auditioning speakers to replace the JBL's I've been using for the past few years. In looking for the perfect speaker price was a key factor, not too mention I wanted a speaker that would sound great without having to buy a new amp (using a Yamaha RX-596). At first I was taken by the Paradigm Legend, but I own a pair of Titans and although they rock for a sub-$200 speaker I could not justify spending $900 for another set of Titans paired with two PDR-10's. Enter the Monitor 9. The local stereo shop didn't have the Monitor 9's in stock so I talked them into stocking a pair for me to audition. I cannot tell you how thrilled I was with this speaker. Head to head with the Legend it held its own in the bottom end, the midrange was much more detailed then the Legends and the overall imaging simply put to rest my daydreams of the Paridigm Legend. With all this said I also auditioned various Infinity and Polk speakers, none of which could touch the sound quality that Paradigm provides in my price range.
I have now owned my Monitor 9's for 2 months. I have no regrets whatsoever, I am perpetually delighted by their tight musical bass, and lazer accurate mids and highs. I am hearing things in my music that I have never heard previously. Amazing!!!
