Strength:

Mid-range, detail, imaging, and quality.

Weakness:

bass becomes punchy on latest recordings

I wanted great imaging and detailed speakers for the type of music I like to hear. Also, I wanted a pair of speakers to assimilate into a home theater system. With the Paradigm Monitor 9's - I was able to achieve both and at a great price. With music, the mid-range is very detailed and yet not overproduced. The highs are clear and powerful. The bass, on certain cd's, can become punchy and boomy. I've noticed this happening more frequently on recent recordings. I think the music industry is producing more boomy bass recordings, just like the ridiculus bass output in current movie houses - thats my conspiracy theory thought of the day. In conclusion, I feel that I have made a very smart buy. Over engineered products for a good price equals a great value in my book. Paradigm has forced me to become a repeat customer.

Strength:

very natural and clear sound
SUPERB, TIGHT AND POWERFUL BASS
great imaging an soundstage

Weakness:

Absolutely none yet.(not only considerating this affordable price)

Sorry I have some problems to write in english.....but i´ll try to do...
I`m really amazing by the sound of this model
These are by far one the best performance speaker that I've ever listened to or have had the pleasure of listening to.
The sound improve progressively once they start to break-in (4-5 weeks and even don´t stop).I compare this model face to face with many others from differents and renowned brands, like JBL, BOSE, B&W (602, NAUTILUS AND OTHERS), JAMO (7.7 MODEL), and I can say that the difference is minimal in comparison with models of twice cost (or more)

They are excellent performers in all most everything they are tested with.(rock, clasic , jazz music) Bass is Great;Treble is Great; Mid's are great; Price is great!

Finally an Important factor to consider.: I recommend use the Nordost Super Flatline (or Solar Wind model, from Nordost) cables with them....The improve is really incredible and remarkable.!!!!

Built Quality, excellent sound

I see many speakers for replace my cheap front Technics. SB-A38 cost about US$250 in Chile. For US$420 buy the excellent Paradigm Monitor 9 and the change are a new experience in audio quality.

The first days are great but at third day the speaker sound better. Good bass, good vocals and excellent highs. Wonderful sound in stereo and SFC, Dolby Surround, Dolby Digital and DTS.

The weight, size and presentation are very impressive. The price are very competitive with other of this class.

In BiWire/BiAmp mode sound more exactly. No go wrong with this towers.

Paradigm built quality are excellent. Twin 8" Woofers and 2.5" tweeter works very well with no distorsion at high volume.

Strength:

Clear, Good Bass.

Weakness:

no one my ears can hear

I really like these when I unpacked and Installed by my self, these are my first pair of speaker for my HT and stereo system. Sometimes I don´t really my subwoofer ( paradigm PS-100 ) to hear strong bass. I used for listening music, almost every kind of music, and good movies too, all my speakers sound terrific, spcially for my neighboords, specially when I playing for example, MATRIX the movie. This couple goes wery well from music to the movies.
If the budget is really a concern go to this babies.

Strength:

Awesome sound. Good bass

Weakness:

Did a lot of shopping for tower speakers in the $500-$700 range and had it narrowed down to the PSB Image series until I heard the Monitors. These completely blew the PSB away. The Monitors have great bass and awesome clarity. I use my system for 70%music and 30%HT. I've thrown all types of music at them and they handle anything. Movies also sound great. Can't find anything better for the price.

Strength:

Good all-around sound for an EXCELLENT price!

Weakness:

Structure could be a little more solid, but . . . . .doing that would increase the cost a couple to a few hundred dollars.

These speakers are the "Jackie Joyner Kersey" of speakers. They are excellent performers in all most everything they are tested with. Bass is Great; Treble is Great; Mid's are great; Price is great! I listen to . . . EVERYTHING, and I wanted a speaker that would perform well in . . . EVERYTHING. The monitor 9's do just that! Are there better performers out there? Of course! That's the nature-of-the-beast. The real question is, Are there better speakers out there in the same price range? Absolutely NOT!!!! (I personally challenge anyone to find a better valued speaker).

What I like most about the Monitor 9's are their ability to be listened to a moderate to high volume for an extended period of time. Many speakers are great at low volumes, but a high volumes, they can only be tolerated for 2 to 3 songs; then it's time to turn-them-down. The Monitor 9's are not like that; I can listen to them all day.

Like many of the other reviews, the break-in time is critical for these speakers. Initially, they sound very stiff, almost harsh. (I recommend: 1. Get a pink-noise CD and play it at moderate to high volume for at least 3 -4 hours. OR 2. Play a "very musical" CD for the same amount of time. ) If you have sensitive neighbors, out of courtesy, warm them about what you are trying to do, and please do it during DAY-hours. :)

For more detailed (and professional) critique, e-mail me. I'd love to talk about placement; frequencies, equipment, etc. For the every-day-consumer, Monitor 9's are a solid performer and wise purchase.

To be safe . . . . take you favorite CD's to a local Paradigm (or any) dealer, and play-the-hell-outta the speakers in the store. Then, (make sure the dealer has a decent return policy)take speakers home, run them there with even more music, and decide for yourself(ves).

GO PARADIGM!

Strength:

Tight bass, ornate & crystalline high end.

Weakness:

No spikes - too much boom appears. Not enought time to break them in - too much glare. The handles on the boxes are weak - I dropped one of the speakers on the way in the house.

The speakers provide greater detail to the music I have been playing for months on my Celestions of 15 years of age. I am hearing things that I have never noticed before. The bass is more consistent (meaning the lowest sounds do not change their volume as the pitch of the notes change), and the ability of the speaker to respond to sudden changes in volume in a recording beautifully. Unlike other reviewers, I have not noticed Boominess in the bass or brashness on the high end - now that the speakers are broken in properly. In short, the sound from these speakers is so ornate and clean that my wife and I can sit and listen to songs we have enjoyed together for years - like the Kellog's commercial: "try it for the first time - again".

Test drove the AR 318e for a week or so, but found the horn tweeter better suited for heavy metal / classic rock. Lose this choice if you are considering.

I picked up these speakers brand new at an authorized dealer in Canada for $650 Canadian. With such an incredible bargain, I could not help buying them!!

Let me tell you, these speakers sound incredible!! Try watching Saving Private Ryan on DVD! It's quite impressive, even without a separate sub!

I highly recommend these speakers!!!

Strength:

Great sound overall - very accurate, open, and spacious. Nice full bass and good high-frequency extension. Very little background noise.

Weakness:

Upper midrange is a little silibant and the lower midrange sounds slightly nasal on some CD's.

I would summarize these speakers as being great for HT, and good for music. In movies, the dialogue comes through very clearly. In music, the midrange is merely average, but bass and treble are excellent. The largest flaw I can find in these speakers is that the upper midrange is a little forward (~7khz). While this adds a sense of clarity to some instrumental passages, it also adds silibance to some female singers' voices. This can be easily remedied through some darker sounding components (amp, CD, etc.) Overall, there's not much to dislike about these speakers. I consider its flaws to be trivial.

Good sound; clear and strong

Theese speakers are great. My friend has them and they rock! His dad's using them as the rears now but before we watched Independence day (when the spach ships were blowing up the buildings) The sound was great. At first, I thought they had the volume up loud, but then, when I heard the guy talk, it was normal volume, It's just because you can hear so many sounds that you don't usally hear. (they go good with the mini's for rears) I'm looking forward to getting my home theater system. It will include: Paradigm Legends(fronts) a CC 170, and Titans for the rears. I can't wait. If it's half as good as the 9's, I'll be pleased.
