These are fantastic speakers. The best single word that I can use to describe them would be effortless. Regardless of how far you turn up the volume, they still sound perfect, very tight, very responsive. If you are looking for a speaker in the $1,000-$2,000 range, you have to listen to these. |

Strength:
Excellent LOW and SMOOTH bass, VERY detailed mid’s and nice high’s
Weakness:
the grill can make some noise I have had these speakers for about 3 or 4 years now, and I love them now, just as much as I did when I first got them. I have always been very impressed with the bass performance on these. It’s incredibly low for a speaker of it’s size. Midrange like "voice" comes in very detailed, with lots of texture and accuracy. The highs, at first where a problem for me. My room is very small, and ceilings are low……….so, highs bounced off the walls and just seemed way to bright. A friend of mine has the same speakers, his room is MUCH larger thou, and there is no problem with the highs. And, at that time, I had an older NAD cd player. So I thought it’s would be a good idea to upgrade, and try to match with the speakers. So……I got a REGA PLANET cd player, and just like that…..nice smooth highs. Also what helps, I went out and some good XLO cables (patch cord and speaker), I did have about a $60 “digital” Monstercable patch cord and thick Monstercable speaker wire……..again, you would not believe the difference good cables make. So……what I’m trying to say is that, if you listen to these speakers, and your not immediately impressed with the sound……IT DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT HOOKED UP TO IT. Trust me. Similar Products Used: b&w 600, PSB, monitor audio....(much more in same priss range) |

Strength:
Clean, well balanced sound, excellent on details, quality built.
Weakness:
none to me. I am running these speakers with a Rogue Audio 99 Pre-amp and the imaging and soundstage is awesome! Excellent detail on both CDs and vinyl. I didnt want large speakers enclosures to domonate my living room, so these speakers gave me excellent sound in a relatively small size enclosure.( also I got the black enclosures which further diminish there size, give a slim classic look). The bass is more than adequate and is balanced with the rest of the music I feel, there when its supposed to be. Similar Products Used: BW 17 with BW Sub. |

Strength:
Natural midband, clean highs, not very placement dependant, excellent imaging, price/performance ratio
Weakness:
Can be a little bass-lite on some recordings, needs a little volume to "fill out" Well, I have had these a little over a year and all things considered, I will give 'em an 8.5 out of 10. Highs are very clean and extended, if not the last word in refinement (compared to mega-dollar speakers). The most important part of the audio spectrum would be the mids, and these excel at them. Very natural and warm. Depending on the recording, bass can be a little lite. But what it can do, it does well. Tight and tuneful. Another area of excellence is imaging. Instruments and voices in the lateral plane are pin-point accurate. Vertical is okay (sounds can float above and below the drivers as long as the recording has it). Depth is also "okay". I am curious to hear a depth "champ". Make sure to bi-wire, it has an effect that is not subtle. These are not placement-picky, but they seem to sound best out into the room, away from walls a few feet (hence the lite bass at times). I would also allow a LOT of break-in time, could be months for a casual listener. Seems to get better every day! These speakers seem to thrive on a powerful amp. I went from a Denon 65 wpc to a Rotel 200 wpc, it made all the difference. Just for the record, I'm using Rotel RB 991 power, Rotel RC995 pre, Pro-Ject Perspective with a Grado Platinum, cabling by Straight Wire, Audioquest and the Monster 1.4 Bi-wire (hhmmm...like to see what AQ Slate would sound like...) I love these speakers! I went to the store with the intention of buying the Paradigm Monitor 9's. Although I did like the sound of the Monitor 9's, the Studio 60's had a more crisp and lifelike sound. It is surprising that they can get so much clean sound out of such a small package. What it does lack in the very lowest bass is easily made up for with my Velodyne S-1200 subwoofer, even with the sub turned way down. I found it amazing that I could visualize the position of every instrument and vocal in the music. Perhaps I was deprived with my old pair of JBL LX55's, but I'm more than making up for it now. |

I just bought these speakers, and paid the extra $200 to get the rosewood finish. I have two mono block Hafler amps. I didn't think I would need a subwoofer, but I am quite wrong. They sound good; not great. Not sure what the hype about Paradigm is all about. I do hope that when I do buy a subwoofer that everything will come together. |

Anyways, this speaker is quite a decent speaker and can hold it's own to all in it's price range IMHO. My theory is that no truely high end company will make crap. All of them try to do something right. Whatever this something is thats what makes different people like different components. Paradimg just pushes all my buttons and gives me fuzzies and all that other good stuff so my rating is a four. Doesn't do it for me as much as the studio 20 or 100. |
