Strength:
Just a lot of sound from such a small speaker. Kinda hard to believe just how good the Titans reproduces sound. Well made and I like the look. I am a Paradigm fan 4life!!!!
Weakness:
Can't take the grilles off but what really matters is how they perform. Other than that--none. Like you I have read many reviews and heard about the legengdary Titans. Lucky for me I got me a pair so here are my observations. I got to do and A B test with them not only with other paradigm speakers but with the B&W 602 s3's nad the Polk RTI4's. There was no doubt that the B&W's won hands down but they were $600 a pair. The mini's were a close second nad let me say the mini's kick butt!! However, I did not find the mini's to sound that much better than the Titans. True, the mini's were a lil more detailed and more accurate espeacially in the upper bass range but for the money nothing I have heard even comes close to the Titans. The polks were very close to the mini's but the mini's had a fuller sound with a tad bit more presence than the Polks. But, the Polks uses real wood veneer which is nice but not that big of a deal to me. Interestingly, the Studio 20's did not overly impress me but the Studio 40's sure did. Unfortunately, the Studio 40's are out of my price range but the Monitor 3's are and to be totally honest I preferred the monitor 3's over the mini's but not the Studio 40's. Save yourself some money and go buy the Titans unless you have the money to step up to the monitor 3's or studio 40's. Similar Products Used: Cerwin Vega, Pioneer, and etc. |

Strength:
Great sound. Friend shocker(they are looking for the sub)
Weakness:
Can't remove grills. Liked an earlier reviewier comments about driving speakers "naked" I purchased these speakers to hold me over until I was able to find replacement for my JBL Century L-100. When I took them out of the box, I second guessed my decission. How could these small simple looking speakers sound good. I connected them to my Conrad Johnson SA-250 and Sonic Frontiers SFL-1 preamp and fired the up. My jaw hit the floor. I could not believe what I was hearing. Highs, midrange, soundstage, and yes Bass was excellent. These speakers are FUN to listen to. Its the music man and these speakers let you have it. I guess any future upgrades will be Paradigm. Strength:
Soft and warm sound. Very pleasant to listen to at medium volume levels. Satisfactory bass response in small rooms. Imaging improves with better components. (Right now I am listening to them at my computer table from quite close range, and the imaging and bass response are, of course, superb!)
Weakness:
Not for loud listening or large rooms, especially for dense passages in orchestral music. My main system has Paradigm Monitor 9 speakers driven by Cambridge Audio A3 amp, Sony XA20ES CD player and Revox B160 tuner. I like Paradigm speakers, so when I wanted small speakers for my study to be connected to a Denon receiver I had, I listened to Atoms, Titans, and Mini Monitor at the dealer (also listened to B&W301 and 601 in another place but paradigms offered better value). The atoms sounded nice but not enough bass. So the real test was between the comparable Mini's and Titans. Well, they sounded different and offered better fit to different types of music. Titans were better with jazz, whereas Mini's were better with classical. Mini's were more open, more recessed, and cooler, with air around the instruments in dense classical passages. Titans were a lot warmer, however. I listen to both classical and jazz but what led me (and my wife, who was listening too) to prefer the Titans was the sound of violins; much warmer on Titans. I have found the violin sound (especially the period violins) to be harsh on the monitor series' tweeters. So we went along with the Titans (price was not a factor here, as the dealer had lightly used Mini's for a price that was close). At home they sound great. When tied to the Revox tuner they sounded clearer and firmer, suggesting that they will respond well to upgraded equipment upstream. Similar Products Used: Monitor 9's. |

Great sound in a small package. Oh, Yeah. I only paid twenty dollars!!!!
Weakness:
None that i have encountered. I am not a smart man, but I know what sounds good. WOW! Did I ever get lucky! These speakers are fantastic. Other reviewers will be able to tell you more about specs and sound imaging and such. All I can say is WOW! Similar Products Used: JBL,Bose |

Strength:
-Tight Clean accurate and low bass -Crisp and clear highs -Clarity, Imaging and Soundstage
Weakness:
None I went to this store to casually look at speakers, not thinking of at all finding any for under $400 that sounded at all decent. I went and listened to about 7 paradigm speakers( all amazing!). And I took a liking to the Titan bookshelf speakers they had. The bass was tight and accurate. The highs were crisp and clear. The overall clarity was simply amazing! When I asked the price, (my guess was $400-500) I was told I could pick em up for $249, So I bought em on the spot of course! Similar Products Used: Energy, Bose |

Weakness:
No complaints at all These were one of the best purchases of my life. They produce great sound for the money and are extremely versatile. Every Audiophile/Enthusiast should have a pair of these around the house. There are obviously better sounding speakers out4 there, but not for the price. I can't say enough about these things. they are just great little speakers that sound like big speakers. Similar Products Used: Bose 301 - weak, overpriced Yamaha NS-?? - Not bad speakers |

Strength:
Good value Very nice soundstage
Weakness:
Not a speaker to crank up, distorts at half volume on my Revox (100 watts a side, high amperage) Highs seem to be a bit on the harsh side, but these are brand new, may not be broken in Very nice speaker. Have played with both a Revox B251 integrated amp, and an NAD T742 receiver. These little guys have an impressive soundstage, and have decent imaging. The highs I haven't quite made up my mind on, seem to be on the harsh side at high volume. Mids are very nice, although I found snares to not sound quite right to my drummer ears. Lows are impressive for such a small speaker, especially with the Revox. I also paired them with the ADP-8 or whatever the Paradigm sub is, nice combo. The speakers sounded a lot warmer and smooth with the Revox, although I expected it to kill the NAD, which it didn't do at all. I am really impressed by the NAD. Only difference is the NAD was connected via digital coax, versus plain jane RCA for the Revox. Similar Products Used: B&W, Mirage, Boston Acoustics, Energy, etc |

Strength:
Low price.
Weakness:
highs and lows. I got a pair of Titans because I needed a set of rears for my home threatre system, which consist mostly of Axioms speaker. My current rears are Axioms Mt3i's. They are awsome and I wanted to used them instead for my bedroom setup. Having both sets at hand I decided to compare them with my HK receiver. Sound wise they don't compare. The Mt3i's are true audiophile while the Titans are LowPhile. The highs are for nothing crisp or clear, and it sharpness is a little pressing on the ears. The lows are like my Bose, a little mushy. The construction is on pare with my cheap Bose 201, with non removable grill. Surprise? I though about keeping them for the price after all they will do for the rears and save $55 dollars, But I don't think so? Instead I will send them back for a refund and Pay the difference for another set of Axioms Mt3i's. Why sell myself short? Listen if your short on cash I guess these will do? But if if you can spring another $55 dollars go for the Axioms. You won't regret it, and there customer service is Superb! Pleasure your ears!! Strength:
Simple - it sounds better than anything else I listened to anywhere near its price range
Weakness:
none. And please - leave the unremovable grille thing alone. Maybe the reason the Paradigms sound better than the Polks, Sonys, Infinitys, Bose and others is that in their value priced speakers they put expense and technology only in the places that contribute to great sound (drivers, crossovers, etc.). By not having removable grills, Paradigm not only saves manufacturing and assembly costs but also can deliver slightly more speaker volume (square inches inside the box) to the same sized overall package. By the way, these speakers also lack the dual inputs many of their competitors to enable you to "bi-wire" them. Again, if you're going to get into bi-wiring, you're probably a serious audiophile who's not going to buy a $200 speaker anyway. Anyway, if you want a removable grill get a Sony or a Bose - the only reason you'll be removing the grill is to check and see if you can figure out why they sound so bad... I was in the market for bookshelf speakers that needed to serve both as 2-channel mains for music as well as fronts in a 5.1 setup. And, unlike a true audiophile, I wasn't ready to shell out as much money as it took to get the ultimate sound. I told myself I wanted to stay under $200, but truthfully I could have been swayed by speakers as high as $500. I started by looking at product reviews on the web and concluded that the "usual" suspects in the "most bang-for-the-buck" category were Polk Audio and Paradigm. I messed around on eBay to get an idea of what I might pay for a set of Polk Audio RT-28i's and decided that if I could get a good deal at a store I'd go for it. Keep in mind, that all of this research was done without ever listening to any speakers. I went to a couple of "superstores" and listened to speakers. Unfortunately, I left the superstores dazed and confused; the Polks didn't even sound as good as a set of Infinity's that one of the store clerks steered me towards! And I'm generally skeptical of the help I get in those stores anyway - a friend who worked in one once told me that almost every month one of their suppliers gives them a pretty substantial sales incentive to push their product - perhaps this was just Infinity sales incentive month... Anyway, after nearly succumbing to a "great offer" on a set of Infinity's for $280/pair (don't even recall the model), I found myself driving to a very out of the way audiophile specialist shop. I was a bit intimidated (this was the kind of place where you could buy $125,000 speakers!) but since this was the only Paradigm dealer in the area I had no choice. My intimidation was soon diminished - I was treated patiently and professionally by a sales person who was a true "audiophile-geek." I sat down in a beautiful listening room as he trotted out several speakers for me to listen to. He used his expertise to educate me a bit, but he was careful to let my own ears guide me. In the end, I chose the Paradigm Titans; as I described what I was hearing, the sales guy used words like "stage presence", "imaging" and "non-coloring" - all I knew was that they sounded really good. I was tempted by the Paradigm Monitor Minis (1 step up, $370) but I just couldn't hear enough of a difference to justify the additional $150. I will say this though; hearing the Paradigm Studio 20's ($800) made me want to become a more serious audiophile - when I closed my eyes while listening to these it sounded like the jazz combo was in the room with me! The bottom line is this: I almost payed $280 at a "superstore" for a set of $315 Infinity's that didn't blow me away. I then went a high-end niche store and payed $220 dollars for a pair of $220 speakers that did blow me away. Forget the marketing hype - believe your ears. Two suggestions for people in the market for compact speakers under $500: 1) Be patient and put Paradigm on your short list. Paradigm doesn't sell through chain stores, so you'll have to work a bit to find your local dealer, but it's worth at least a listen. 2) Visit a specialty audio store. The "great deals" at the superstores may not be as great as you think and, if you're like me, you'll appreciate the knowledge and the unhurried atmosphere of a high-quality, focused retailer. Strength:
Solid all-round performer, extremely affordable
Weakness:
can't remove grill, lose accuracy at extremely high volumes (they are bookshelf speakers though, that should be expected) After 3 and a half years, I finally exchanged these for a new set of Paradigm Monitor series. I had 4 Titans in my HT setup and let me say, for the price you pay, these still cannot be matched. I'm not going to sit here and lie to you that they are better than $500 speaker, but in the $200 range, I have yet to see any that can keep up. Over 3 years I put the Titans through numerous torture tests, anything from Rock, Jazz, Classical, to the lates DVD's and they excelled beautifully. The high's are slightly less than crystal clear, the bass is a bit weak without a sub, and the midrange is a bit on the warm side. Anyone who tells you they can eliminate these problems in a $200 set of bookshelf speakers is full of it. That being said, they are extremely accurate, and detailed speakers, that produce exceptional sound clarity and provide adequate imaging. I bought these to replace some Alpha series PSB's that I had, and have since acquired a set of Axiom and B&W speakers that were about $50-100 more that were not at all better, except the for detachable grills (big deal). These are the ultimate solution for anyone making the jump to affordable HT, and the thousands of favorable reviews don't lie. Highly recommended. I love my new setup, but I will always remember how well the Paradigm Titans seved me. Similar Products Used: PSB, Klipsh, B&W, Axiom |
