I have to partly agree with Chris on this one. The speakers are for the mostpart very good. When first listening to them I was VERY impressed. But after
a while my ears started noticing flaws in the sound. Highs are pretty good but seem to loss something at very high frequency's. The bass is more than I expected but if you want these for Home theater plan on getting a sepate Powered Sub.

At $1,000/pair their price is much more resonable than around $1900 for the RT2000's

Strength:

Great Highs' & nice looking cabinet

Weakness:

N/A.

I must say these speakers are great, I cant imagine anything better for the home theater formats. Powered towers are simply the wave of the future. I enjoy listening to music & movies with the same speaker. Not a whole lot can be said for some speakers out there. If you are looking for the best package deal going this is it.

I really like the highs, or at least you can get as much as you want. The speakers are just great!!!

Strength:

Great highs and mids.

Weakness:

Bass

I had planned on the rt800 for front speakers in my home theatre but found these as "open box" and year end closout. Circuit City also had the rt800's open box and closeout. I ended up with the rt800's for rears and the rt1000's for fronts, a little overkill but great sound. They were all 1/2 price so I couldn't pass them up. The cv400 for a center and a Velodyne ct-100 for a sub round out the rest of this system.

The LED on the front of the speaker drives me a little crazy. If it came on with the speakers amp I wouldn't mind but it stays on whenever there is power to the speaker. Not a problem if you switch them through the amp though. That's a pretty minor point but it does bother me.

The best thing I can say about these speakers is they sound as good in my media room as the demo room at Circuit City. The other comment on here about the large sweet spot is also seconded by me.

These speakers are a little bright but as my ears age I find I need a little more top end. I find they have more than enough bass for music but a sub is necessary for home theatre. These speakers would not be a good choice if you're expecting rock the house bass.

For the money they hold their own but if you listen to music with a lot of bass and don't plan on a sub you might not want these. If you're looking for speakers with lots of detail in the highs these are them.

With the deal I got there was no way anything could compare. I'm happy with the sound and would recommend them to someone looking at speakers in this price range.

I auditioned numerous speakers in the process of upgrading my system, being mainly interested in musical presentation. I found none, in the range I wanted to pay, with total sound comparable to the Polk Audio line. Then with the arrival of Polk's newest RT series speakers, there was no decision left to make. The RT1000p speakers became the answer with absolutely no regrets. The overall appearance, quality and sound performance in one word, "awesome." Nothing I could say could do these speakers justice, hearing is believing. Polk Audio, pat yourselves on the back once again!

Strength:

$600 for the pair on closeout, attractive, very nice imaging and nice soundstage.

Weakness:

For $600, none.

Well, I found these at Circuit city for $600 pair closeout, the new i series is out with real wood veneer and a few other tweaks so the Ps are cheap now. I was very impressed with these in pretty much every respect, imaging is very good and the soundstage really struck me as being very deep when the recording deems it necessary. I think they are very uncolored in the midbass/midrange and like some mag critics have said, the highs are very open and detailed without being overly bright. The Bass response seems very quick and nicely weighted while providing reasonable extension for the driver size/output, in my room the bottom end extends into the mid 30hz range before rolling off rather sharply. I believe some people criticize the midrange as being too laidback or lacking because they've become accustomed to a midrange colored or "chesty" speaker - or I could wrong;-) Anyhow I recommend these speakers witn no reservations and at the current price ($600) you'd be hard pressed to find a better pair of mains.

At $600 they're 5 stars for value, at $1000 they'd be 4 stars. Compared with speakers in the SAME PRICE and SIZE class they get 5 stars for performance also.

Strength:

Good value for a powered tower.

Weakness:

Lack of midrange, disappointing imaging

Once upon a time, there were tower speakers, and there were subwoofers. Now there's the audio equivalent of the spork: powered towers. They're not very good at stabbing meat, and they're pretty crumby at soup, too.

I've been a big fan and owner of Polk speakers for about ten years. The 5jr+ speakers I've used since college have amazed me at every listening, some of the best imaging, sharpest highs, and lightning fast bass response I've ever heard. But... powerful bass has never been a big Polk strength. As an apartment dweller, this has never been a huge concern for me-- I'll add a sub some day. But when I auditioned the RT1000p, I was initially underwhelmed. After about an hour of listening, I was fully disappointed. The highs are everything you'd expect from Polk. Clear, sharp, and almost (but not quite) too bright. But for some reason, Polk decided to use only one mid/full range driver in a fairly large cabinet. The result is a sort of lost, unfocused brassy sound on the top end. The subwoofers, turned to around 3-4 o'clock, did a fair job compensating for the low end. Below that, they weren't noticable; above that, they were thumpy and-- there goes the midrange again. If you're considering the 1000's, do yourself a favor and compare them to the RT800s, and see if your opinion of Polk isn't completely restored (as mine was) by these less wonderful speakers for about $100 less per. The response is even across the full spectrum, the sound is warm, and the imaging, if not pinpoint-, is maybe ball-point accurate (these are $600/pair after all). I couldn't find a better sounding speaker even for up to $500 per, although I did notice the same problems in other powered towers. My advice: find a speaker (like the RT800) designed to be a front speaker, and find a subwoofer designed to be a subwoofer.
