Strength:
Price, Bass, Power
Weakness:
Size, finicky placement I picked these up for 520 apiece at CC last week, I almost jumped out of my pants when I saw that price, it was their last pair. Needless to say I reservrd them, went home to get my 800's and drove 85 mph back to CC to get my new speakers. The low end response is very noticeable, but the tweeters are a tad bright. After a few minutes w/ my 333-ES eq I had them sounding GREAT! I listened to some classical for a few hours, then put on some Techno (House and Drun & Bass), these speakers can handle ANY kind of music w/ clarity. Then I put on Godzilla on DVD, WOW, the front channels really do carry lots of bass, it made the movie much more exciting. Similar Products Used: RT 800's, RT 55's, Infinity |

Strength:
planar like imaging, good detail, hell of a steal
Weakness:
bass can be more articulate, placement is as anal as dealling with magnapans and ml's I almost bought the B&W 605 V2, but got the Polks on closeout. I auditioned all of the above in my home, with the same equipment. The polks are almost as detailed as the B&W's with better bass articulation and soundstage(i know I still can't believe that one!). They have a less bright, AKA more forgiving midrange/midbass then the NHT with Nordost cables (with poopy monster and AQ forgetaboutit, the NHT and B&W win hands down). With better system matching and speaker placement(interconects and power cords and speaker wires) the polks offer as much detail(almost as much highend, same mid, better bass) as the B&W's with the bass of the NHT's. The soundstage is planar like when placed right; in my case 4ft from back wall and sides, 7+ft apart, with a slight (maybe .75 inch)toe-in. Deep soundstage, great detail. Something magical about a good 2way 6.5" incher(plus sub), hell, I actually dug the rt2000p better than the 3000p in this set up! (still can't believe that one either). Hard to believe but true, I had to try it out first; and didn't want to believe CC could actually do OK. Well, some of you are saying "yea come on another audioreview.com idiot", but I have great ears, but a limited budget and have to get the best bang for the buck. This is it! Strength:
Great clarity, strong bass, beutiful cabinet, works great for home theatre. Lots of volume.
Weakness:
Very directional speaker, which makes sitting position very critical. Wish there was a on-off switch for the powered bass speaker. It does cut-out when not in use, but there is power still at the transformer. I really like these speakers. They are some of the best sounding anywhere. There is a slight loss in the lower midrange frequencies but does not create a problem. Most listeners would not even notice. I like the sound of the powered bass, it gives the bass a sharp edge that blends well with my sub-woofer. I liked the price of 699.00 at |

Strength:
Superb Mids, Highs, Bass and the Sound Stage is Spectacular
Weakness:
None Outstanding sound stage, superbly clean, clear and well defined Mid's. As for the Highs-superbly clear, clean and not bright and "tinny" like the Infinity and the Bass...SUPERB Similar Products Used: I sold my very "tinny" and weak sounding Infinity Kappa 8.1's for these Polk Speakers and I am sooooo happy I did. |

Strength:
built like a brick !#*%house. second to none regarding movies. music comes alive with these speakers.
Weakness:
pictures on walls have no glass left from hitting the floor over & over again. these speakers are very heavy also! i've owned these speakers since the first of dec. 99 so i feel as though i've had ample time to finally render an educated review. these speakers really perform for the money. i don't think i have never been more satisfied with a hi-fi purchase and i'll be the first to say that i've spent a load on hi-fi over the years. i've come to the conclusion that it's simply impossible to get bored of these speakers. i can listen to the same music and watch the same dvd's over and over again. they never sound stale or limited, no matter what you throw at them... pop in "transisistor" by 311 and prepare to to get your ribs bruised... pop in "saving private ryan" and get ready to be riveted against the couch. these speakers have so much power and presence! here's what the rest of my system consists of just so you know how serious i am about sound: denon avr 5700 for power, sony dvp 650d and RCA DSS for the view, klipsch rc-3 for the center, klipsch ksw-12 for lows, klipsch quintets for mid-surrounds and last but not least a pair of def-tec bxp's bringing up the rear surround. i've done a lot of swapping over the years in the "main speakers" category, but i can say with the ut-most confidence that these speakers are a sound investment. matt polk is god! Strength:
Non-fatiguing sound. Excellent biuld quality
Weakness:
Takes many hours to break in. It took me about 9 months of listening to break in these speakers. At first, I experienced the overbright and slightly harsh highs that everyone else experienced, and also a recessed midrange and a somewhat undefined bass. With many hours of play through my Harmon Kardon PA5800, I finally broke in those speakers and discovered its true voicing. The highs have smoothed out, and the midrange now has a distinguishable presence. The lows through these subs for music is nothing short of superb. It's thickness has only been matched by a retooled pair of Ohm I's. |
