I have owned the the psb 600 for over a year and I have to say that I am very satisfied with them. With a price tag of $600 can. it was a good buy. The size and dimension of the speaker is complentary to it's perfomance. The deep cabinet and appearance is nice when matched to the ability to produce a full range of dynamic sound. The speaker is very clear in the upper highs, very full in the midrange(result of 2- 6.5 drivers) and delivers satisfying base. I would recommend it to people looking for performance at a reasonable price - who are looking for an alround speaker for home audio and thatre.

I recently purchased a pair of the PSB 600i, and found them to be excellent for Jazz, light rock, and blues. I set these up with a M&K MX 125 sub and they sound great. I am currently powering these with a mid priced sony, and they do just fine. I can't wait until I upgrade the sony. The PSB's will sound even better, if that's possible

Before I bought them, I had listened to these speakers in at least 10 different rooms and setups. They sound great regardless of how hackneyed the setup they're in. These speakers are able to fill my large living room. These speakers are great regardless of price. Its slim profile gets raves from style conscious family.

After nearly a year, I'm still extremely pleased with the PSB 600is. They are so precise that meticulous might be a better word to describe them. Jazz, folk, and blues positively sparkle with clarity. With good source material, such as Jochum's "Carmina Burana", the imaging is astounding.
Unfortunately, bad and mediocre source material is reproduced with equal faithfulness. One Etta James CD made me wince with each plosive syllable, as the PSBs dutifully spelled out every burst of air going into the microphone. Rock CDs mixed with no dynamic range and relying on the listener's speakers to provide an additional level of distortion sound two-dimensional and lifeless, as these speakers only give you exactly what was called for, and no more. That's not to say the 600is can't do bass. They just have to be asked. They respond particularly well to explicitly bass-heavy material like Ace of Base.

I live near a high-end audio store, and stop to listen to their demo systems from time to time. They have speakers costing ten times as much, and yes, they sound better. But I'm never disappointed to go home and listen to my PSBs. They're keepers. My next upgrade will be a better power amp, because the 600is can handle a whole lot more than the 75w I'm feeding them now, and I can't wait to see what they'll do with it.

Strength:

Upper midrange and treble as sweet as it gets. Very good cabinet design and quality.

Weakness:

Tweeter position a little low for a floorstanding design.

I both love and hate these speakers. I love them because them draw me into the music. Even my wife, who has a certain contempt for my expensive hobbies, said "with the other speakers it sounds like we are listening to a recording and with these it sounds like Jewel is in our living room". Trust me, that is quite an endorsement. I love the midrange and treble on these speakers. As sweet as I've ever heard. Many of the acoustic tracks on a Jewel CD never got listened too. Now I'm floored by the texture and emotion in the voice. Classical recordings really shine too. I'm partial to soft dome tweeters and the 600i uses what I believe to be a Vifa 1" soft dome. Very relaxed and at the same time incredibly detailed (seemingly contradictory qualities I know but that's my story...). Imaging and soundstage also sound good to my ears even though my room, with a 25" ceiling, is probably not optimal. The base is very tight and detailed - works fine in my HT system without a sub. Played a Telark recording of Bach's Toccata & Fugue and the 600i's did a creditable job with the really big stops open. Best of all, I paid $370 U.S. for them new and consider that to be the best deal in America. That's what I love.

I hate the fact that many of my favorite recordings now sound awful. It isn't the speakers. I can hear so much more detail than in my old Paradigm Titans (which aren't too bad either) that in many of my recordings it is completely distracting. If a CD was mixed to sound good in a car it probably won't sound good on the 600i's. I never noticed that the percussion in a Sade recording was really a drum machine but there it was - the unnatural timbre and lack of texture in the drums. Sounded synthetic to the point I couldn't enjoy the music anymore. Some of the games they played by switching the electric guitar from the right speaker to the left between riffs about made me dizzy. Again, it never bothered me with the Titans. So now I need to spend more time researching good recordings of the music I like and develop more appreciation for fine acoustic music with real harmonics. Will probably cost me more too. I hate that.

I enjoyed the sound of the PSB 600s a little more after I heard the price. The mid-range had a slight colouration when compared to its Paradigm twin,
probably due to a mismatch between the two woofers. The 600s are definitely
a good value but I thought the 500s were clearer and could handle more power.
The 500s are $100 less but you have to buy stands with them. I've had both
pair in a bedroom system and the 500s had better imaging. This could be due
to the height difference between the two pairs when the 500s are on their
stands. The 600s stand about 31-32" high and the 500s on stands are 35"
high. Trust me in many rooms, the 4-5" difference makes a big difference.
E-mail me for the results of various tests on PSB's entire speaker line.

I just want to share with you an E-mail I received for my previous review of these speakers.
From: mxm434@psu.edu (Mike Mattingly)

"I just read your review of the PSB 600i's on Audio Review. I believe that you are an uninformed, uneducated moron. You probably have never heard good sound and you probably couldn't tell if it was good if you did. To compare these speakers to the BOSE AM-5's is ludicrous. Anything made by Bose is completely unlistenable...even the damn 901's. If you think a pair of 2" x 2" cubes with a 6" sub sounds better then a pair of high quality floor standers you must be smoking large amounts of crack! People buy Bose for the name...not the sound quality. The 600i's are well regarded for a good reason...they sound good!"

There it is folks. Now you know why I am not an audiophile.

Strength:

Small footprint, Smooth highs, crisp midrange, mellow yet smooth bass

Weakness:

I feel they need a small stand to effectively sound at their best

After hearing a good review of the 400i, I decided to go to a shop and give them a listen. The owner had a pair of 600i's on demo and I gave them a listen, and WOW I fell in love. I compared them to the 800i's and felt the 800i's were a bit boomy and muddy in the bass region.
The crispness and smooth sound just blew me away. The retail on these is $600 and I purchased my demo's for $380. I would easily say the speakers are worth the retail price. I am looking to upgrade to the 1000i or the Stratus Silver eventually.

I use a Luxman 200/wpc amplifer to power them, and the dynamics are incredible.
Just a good solid value !

My early experience with this speaker leaves me quite impressed. The distinct and clear high's and mid's are perhaps the best I have heard atthis price range. PSB makes an excellent speaker and the 600 is no exception. Low bass is adequate, seing it only has two 6 1/2 inch
woofers. Anyone looking for a good crisp sounding speaker at a very excellent price should check out this one.
