Clarity, Bass Response, Imaging

Weakness:

To be completely honest, none

I have just finished breasking in these speakers and I am more than please with their performance. Their sound is a little harsh at first, but give them a chance to break in and their real sound comes through. For the size of the drivers, their bass response is more than I expected and could ask for. It is very tight and accurate, not as deep for for a 6.5" dirver what do you expect. Their midrange is very good and the highs are very smooth. Prior to these, I had a Paradigm setup with the Monitor 3's, and I think the 2b's are a much cleaner speaker. They had a higher sensitivity then the Paradigm's as well. For my system I have 2 sets of the 2B's running mains and surrounds. The PSB 8C for the center channel. The vocal mathicng is perfect between the center and the 2B's. For the price, these speakers are incredibly tough to beat. Give them and audition, and I believe that you will fall in love with these. For value they are definately a 5, and for overall, they blow everything out of the water in a comparable price range.

Strength:

Overall sound and build quality.
Solid bass for bookshelf.
Looks.

Weakness:

None with my demo period.

Demo'd these speakers as overall judge of the Image line. I
plan on purchasing complete system with 5 or 6Ts up front,
9C center, and 2B's as surrounds. Local dealer only had
these models, and was nice enough to let me try them out
for a week.

Wow! Could not believe the sound these things put out for
such a small speaker. Very detailed sound with excellent
soundstage and transparency. Highs were very nice with the
aluminum tweeter, but not overly bright.

Wanted a second opinion so took them to a friends house and
hooked them up to his B&K 4420 amps. A little too much
power for these, so we kept them at a modest level.
Compared to his B&W 640i's, these things held their own. Of
course they sounded slightly "boxier" and the mid's were not
quite as tight as the B&W's with the Kevlar driver, but the
detail was only a notch below the B&Ws. Way to go PSB.

This is a great product and can be found for super low
prices on the web. Definitely a 5 star if not better in value.

Strength:

crystal clear highs, tight lows

Weakness:

Not-biwirable

These are great speakers for the price. Needs a good break in time period. Great for listening to classical and pop music. The lows are tight but not low enough for certain types of music (dance, techno). But hey, it's a bookshelf speaker. Pair it with a nice subwoofer for a great complete sound. I'm really pleased with these speakers.

Weakness:

Only one pair of binding posts (but what do you expect from a bookshelf)

What can I say? The sound incredible, when I close my eyes it feels like they are floor-standing models. The aluminum tweeter is wonderful not harsh or irritating, just a crisp pleasant sound. The 6.5-inch woofer cranks out all the clean mid bass you could ever want, and the ported design delivers nice tight bass. When you pick up a pair you can just feel the quality and years of design that went into the Image series. Do not be fooled into paying more for speakers that do not perform half as good as these.

I paid $269.00 + $24.00 S&H

I promise you will never find a speaker for $269.00 that will ever come close to this.

P.S.- For those who say that these speakers do not put enough bass I feel that it is quality over quantity. These are bookshelf speakers; sometimes I forget they sound so good, so go get a sub.

Strength:

Good solid performance
Excellent price
Part of an excellent series

Weakness:

For the size none

These are the rear part of what is now an all PSB speaker set up. They were purchased to balance the main speakers which are PSB 5Ts. They work extremely well in this configuration.

I used Video Essentials to set up the audio and in the walk around the room I notice no tonal differences between the 5Ts and 2Bs.

I recommend them either as fronts for a starter with a view to more to the rears when matched with 5Ts or 6Ts.

Within the idea of a book shelf at the price I have to rate these at 5 stars.

Strength:

Excellent imaging, great vocal

Weakness:

none, in view of its price and size

Having used the PSB Image 2B's for a little over a month, I am quite happy with their performance. These speakers are part of my secondary stereo system which is made up of a Tandberg 3003 power amp, a Carver CT-3 preamp and a Sony C75ES CD changer. I have tried different kinds of music, from Bach's Notebook for Anna Magdalena with the great Elly Ameling in Solo, to Beethoven's 9th by Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic, to Handel's Messiah by the Academy of Ancient Music and Christopher Hogwood, to Beatles' Abby Road and Mary Chapin Carpenter, the results have always been quite satisfying. In fact, this system stacks up quite well sonically against my main system with Definitive Tech BP20, NAD 218/116, Revox B760 tuner and another Sony ES changer. I think a few past reviewers were just unrealistic in comparing these speakers with the KEF's or the Missions. They should have checked the exchange rate, as the high British Pounds have made many British imports quite uncompetitive over the past few years. The Canadians design excellent speakers and the exchange rate works in my favor and the rest is history. Why should I buy British when I can buy Canadian for better value? The quibble with less than room shaking bass is also pointless. If you want ear shattering bass, go buy a subwoofer. I like my PSB 2B's well enough that they will be part of my upcoming home theater system, which will be all separates.

Strength:

Uncolored, accurate sound at a great price

Weakness:

None so far

The Image 2Bs are very solid performers. I can best equate them to decathlon athletes. They can perform very well in a wide range musical areas (events). They may not be the best at any particular style, but they surely will not disappoint you either. I won't waste you time picking at weaknesses, it's not worth the effort given the price of these speakers. Give them a listen, you like what you hear.

Strength:

Good bass for a bookshelf, Nice and smooth. Does not get overly bright or harsh at high volume. Great sound staging (if paired with a good amp).

Weakness:

Need to be broken in before they sound good. Can show the weeknesses of budget amps.

I was upgrading from my old 300i's and these speakers sounded the best in the listning room. (I found the 1B's o.k but they did not have the same tight bass or tonal quality). The pair of 2B's that I purchased sounded horrible for the first couple of days but once they broke in they were really great (compared to what I was used to with the 300i's).
As with the other PSB speakers that I have tried, having a good amp is the key. They will sound alright with a budget amp but will sound alot better with a ~$1000+ amp.
($1000 is my price point defining good equipment from budget equipment).

For the price they are really good speakers. The soundstage is preaty big (in my litening room anyway..it fills the space very nicely), the bass response is tight and smooth (how I like it :), and they dont suffer from the harsh highs that my 300i's used to put out at high volume levels.

All around I am very happy with them.
