Simply incredible, Paul Barton does it again. Those who say this speaker is boring are either listening to them through a Philco walkman or are smoking something really good that I would like to my hands on. These speakers are very much alive without any listening fatigue with the right electronics. |

I have been a proud owner of the PSB Minis for two years. These speakers are for individuals seeking an easy to drive monitor speaker that offers excellent imaging and is neutral in sound. In my opinion, PSB Minis are simply the best sounding monitor speaker in their price range (SRP $950). |

I just spent the weekend auditioning the minis. The dealer and myself included thought that the Minis and the Stratus Goldi's had the same tweet and mid. To our surprise they do not! (we should have looked at the PSB spec sheet flyer closer) The Goldi's sound is beautiful and detailed with a very sweet and articulate midrange. The Minis are not! I presently have a pair of Monitor Audio PMC 700'S. They are alot more articulate and alot faster than the Minis. But the Monitors are a little forward in the midrange. In the same price range the Monitors are by far a better buy. What ia am looking for is something between the Monitors and the Minis in sound. The Minis being too laid back and the Monitors being too foward. That speaker is the Stratus Goldi's! I recently compared the Stratus to the new Natulus B&w 803's and the Stratus is much better at less than 1/2 the price!!!! But dont take my word or anyone elses! Listen for your self and you be the Judge! Different strokes for different folks. Some people like Fords and some people like Chevys! I drive a Hundai Sonata! Go Figure |

Strength:
Very Neutral, Great Soundstage & Imaging, very good bass for the size.
Weakness:
Need good stands filled with sand or shot. Excellent engineering, build quality and sound for a speaker that has no right to be this inexpensive! But, as Paul Barton of PSB reminds us.....the exchange rate is in our favor (US dollar vs Canadian dollar), PSB has unlimited use of the Canadian R&D facility (US companies pay big bucks for this) and he's been doing this a long time! This adds up to big bang for your buck! You must use high quality stands (approx. 24") and filled with sand or shot to get the most out of the Mini's. There is a modest break-in period as well. The better your gear - the better the sound. I am using a Krell amp, Levinson pre, CAL C.D., and Monster 1000 interconnects and 1.2 speaker cable. I got rid of a pair of Chario Academy 1 monitors which were too laid back and rich. I would be interested in how the Mini's perform with tube gear. Anybody? Before you plan to purchase this speaker, please audition in your home at appropriate playback levels before committing to a purchase. I will not go into details here regarding my experience with them, as I don't wish to libel PSB or my local dealer. I will be happy to respond to any emails, whereby I will feel more comfortable voicing my opinion of them. |

Strength:
Extraordinarily musical for the price.
Weakness:
Needs good, pricey stands Heard these at a local hifi dealer. These blow away PSB's Century models by a long shot. When heard side-by-side, the higher cost is easily justified. The Centuries sound clumsy, though enthusiastic. Female vocals on the Stratus Mini are clear, precise, inviting. Spatial textures, width, depth are strong features. Very musically involving. If you like the bass (and bloat, and placement challenges) of floorstanders, the Minis aren't for you. If you like a fantastic soundstage; warm, involving sound; great musicality; crystal clear highs; sweet mids; and tight bass, give the Stratus Minis a listen. The ones I heard were also very beautiful, finished in a high-gloss piano black. The solid construction and dual, heavy-duty binding posts are a plus. I can't think of another pair of speakers I have enjoyed listening to more in recent years. I'm going to save my nickels and get myself a pair. Replaced old infinity rock monitors, (1975 1000.00 per side) with these to to small room size. For the price, the sound is excellent. At the dealer, they were being pumped through Balance Audio: amp, preamp, cd with good cables. They sounded impressive. At home through Sony DVD 550D, Sony TA-E9000ES preamp, Sunfire CG, PSB 6 center, Cambridge Sound Works LR used for rear and CT120 Velodyne sub, the little speaker spoke up quite well. They are not on par with a 3,000 per side speaker but if your looking for a bookshelf speaker due to room constraints, this speaker is an excellent choice. They preform very well in 5.1, prologic, and stero. The stage in stero is excellent. I just like there sound and I guess that's what it comes down too every time with audio products. Give them 5. |
