Strength:

200 Watts, good highs and mids

Weakness:

the bass is not very good

I like using these speakers (ss mf600h the new model) for music and movies I really like the material which it is made out of much better than paper. The looks are somewhat deceiving, you'd expect big bass from these speakers but you get little punch from the two woofers.

Strength:

Clean highs and mid-range. If you are using a sub-woofer with them, more than enough bass.

Weakness:

They are priced so low, some people will ignore listening/buying them. That would be a shame.

Although these are fine by themselves, I added an Optimus Linaeum tweeter from Radio Shack. That extends the high range and disperses the sound beautifully throughout the room. It add a sheen to strings and female vocals.

I have these as part of a system that includes dual Dahlquist sub-woofers powered by a 350 watt per side Phase Linear amplifier. As I said, it is a fine speaker in and of itself. With a few additions, you can turn it into something spectacular.

Strength:

Crisp Highs, Outstanding Value, Aesthetics

Weakness:

Could use some more base to really shake the room, but otherwise adequate

Just got these a couple of days ago. Didn't think spending less than $300 for a pair of main speakers would get me much, but these sounded great compared to many other speakers costing much more. The sound is crisp and clear, and the dual 6" woofers do a good job with the lows. Anyone with a tight budget should definately take a listen to these. I'm shocked that they were $260 a pair. Great for music or home theater. Gave them 4 stars overall because 5 would imply perfect.

4 1/2 stars!
Go ahead, try to find a clearer sound for $120. I don't think so. OK, the bass is a little light, but I don't want my vocals muddied up with over-pumped, fuzzy low end anyway. If you listen to rap or hiphop, these are not for you. If you listen to strings, horns, good rock, or vocals, you won't find a better sound for the money. *ample* bass, *very* clear mids and highs, can handle the juice.

This is about the NEW Sony F600H speakers.
New (improved ?) tweeter, 3' mid, and dual 8'' woofers.

Has anyone who has purchased these speakers (the F600H) performed the crossover mod on them yet? Is the mod worth it? Or do you have any info of other's experiences with the mod?

Any information would be helpful...

Please email me at bdigital2@yahoo.com

Otherwise, let me say that these are an incredible pair of speakers. For those on a budget, or those who do now wish to spend too much cash, these speakers are great. They improve on the 515's in every way. Bass is tight and solid, the tweeters are sweet and not too bright, and the midrange replacing the old paper model is perhaps the greatest improvement of all.

They sound great with most any type of music, but home theatre seems to be were they really excel. And hey, now you can take your 515's and use them for excellent, well matched surrounds. Trust me, when you hear these new speakers, you will want them.

Thanks again for any information anyone can give me.

Strength:

Can take the power of a 777ES!!!

Weakness:

none

I recently bought these speakers for a small system in my house. Before I hooked these speakers to my small system, I wanted to see how they would sound on my main home theater setup! I unhooked my paradigm studio 80's and connected the Sony 515's up. They of course didnt sound as good as the Paraidgm, but I was impressed by the sound output for $250.00 speakers! I cranked the volume up to 9 on the 777ES receiver with no noticable distortion. These speakers were loud with good base production. These speakers are an amazing value!!

Strength:

Unbeatable value, good highs and lows

Weakness:

Slight flatness in midrange

O.K., I bought these about a month ago at BB. My current "budget" home theater/music system: Yamaha HTR-5450 100 wt receiver, Yamaha NS-AC40X center, Sony SS-RU22 bookshelf surrounds (temporary until I get some proper surrounds). I finally found some time to sit down and listen to them under a variety of conditions and concentrate on their sound. I shut off the DSP effects on my receiver. My test disc is Nigel Kennedy doing Vivaldi's 4 Seasons, one of my favs. This is an excellant, natural-sounding recording. At about 1/4 volume these speakers sound quite good, producing natural highs and lower ranges. I am detecting a slight flat spot in the midranges when the tone quickly slides from the screeching highs of the violin down to the cellos and below. The bass is low enough and natural IMO. The tweeters are definitely solid. I couldn't get them to crack on even the highest notes from the violin. The mids seem just a tad mismatched from the rest of the tonal range of the speaker. If the crossover mod will address this, I am very interested. Can any one shoot me some more info on how to do this mod? Overall, though, I am very satisfied with these speakers and heartily recommend them. The slightly flat midrange does not by any means make this purchase disappointing. If you like to listen to rock, rap, etc., or action movie soundtracks, I doubt you will notice it at all. At this price, my minor criticisms are almost irrelevant anyway. You can spend a lot more and not get this good of sound.

Strength:

Cost and looks.

Weakness:

Lack of overall sound quality. You can't beat this speaker for the money, but you get what you pay for. The highs are not as defined as I would like, and the bass is EXTREMLY poor. I doubt that these speakers even produce tones below 100hz. I will be getting rid of these once I get a larger house.

Good speaker for the money. Could use more bass.

Strength:

Really good for an inexpensive speaker.

Weakness:

Have to tweak a little to get the good sounds out of it. So, it is more like a speaker-kit than a finished product.

My new crossovers have arrived (see one below) and I had replaced them.

The speakers sound better now, and for a good reason. When you look at the original "crossover", you will see only three components: one coil and two caps. Originally, the woofers were connected two in parallel and directly to the main terminals, the tweeter had a simple high-pass LC filter, and the midrange was fed through a single 2.2 uF cap in series! There was no way the midrange could have sounded any better.
The new crossovers treat each speaker with respect. Now, after the mod, the midrange especially sounds sweet.
The basses could be still a little mightier/lower/clearer to my tastebuds, so I might look for some better woofer replacements in the future.

I think replacing the crossovers was worth the effort, and so, I thank you guys for suggesting it.

PRACTICAL SUGGESTIONS:
- You may save a few bucks by getting the crossovers from Dalbani (www.dalbani.com - still have to call to order). Their 200W 3-way crossovers look almost the same as the $13.90 ones from PartsExpress, with 4 chokes and 4 caps, but they cost only $5.46 each (Part # 89-2015)- the minimum order though is $20.
- To mount the new crossovers you may use the original mounting posts, after drilling additional holes in the crossover boards. You will be able to find areas clear of the board's components or traces.

Everything - if you have a good EQ or do the X-over mod

Weakness:

None - if you have a good EQ or do the X-over mod

These speakers are great. They produce good vocals and great
bass.I have a very good EQ so I can swithch it to suit the
music im listening to. For $200/pair I dont hear anything
that can beat it. Im sure if a had $2000/pair i could find
something to beat them, but not for $200. I dont think
Ill do the X-over mod , becase my EQ is good. I havent heard them on a stereo without a good EQ so I dont know how they sound with out one. My 2cents worth is just buy them you
will be happy you did.
