Strength:
Strengths of these speakers are high resolution, clarity, frequency range and "presence". Also value for what you get compared to any other speaker! Mind you I have owned sooooo many over the years that I think I can give an honest opinion from an "audiophile pair of ears"!!!! For the record I have owned JBL SAVA 1800's, Martin Loan SL3's,Definitive Technology BP7000's, Mirage M3, Magnepan ,Klipsch RF-7's,Klipsch KLF-20's, Cerwin Vega RE-38's, Bang and Olufsen, JAMO, and countless others. That being said you really have to drive these and any other speakers with quality AMPS, Pre-Amps and receivers! For solid state amps I personally prefer KRELL or some type of good tube amp. Unfortunately most would never drive these with KRELL or tubes because their budget would match the AMP/receiver to their speakers like ONKYO, JVC, TECHNICS etc.....but trust you/me if you have sufficient amplification and a decent CD, PHONO or even MP3 player these speakers will reveal musical macros and micros that you have never heard in your music because their frequency range is so high! Properly burned in or broken in these speakers sound as good or better that so many other speakers that it makes you reconsider once you have heard them properly set up. I can tell you from experience that if you can pick up a pair and know how to tweak them or pair them up with the right electronics you are good to go! If your speakers are buzzing or making weird noises they probably got blown out or the capacitors damaged by some cheap receiver or amp or improper connections, cheap or frayed speaker wires or something!!! One last note, these do not use the "typical" crossover network like so many high end speakers which baffle me because the sound is so pure and uncluttered. Weakness:
Weakness I would say IMHO is that the cabinet could have been braced better (of course) and weight because they can seem pretty light which is usually a high sign of quality....Also I think they would have been giant killers if they were bi-amp capable or tri-amp capable with true crossover networks inside. The woofers are really quick so you don't get the "weight" of the bass like you would from a slower, heavier woofer made from paper or metal materials, hence so many previous reviews saying that you need a subwoofer to cover the low end. Funny thing is that I wouldn't trade these out for anything other than a pair of speakers that can match their sound quality and frequency range! The only comparable speakers to my knowledge would be on the lines of something made of Beryllium like Focal, JBL or other "ultra-high end" speakers. Thanks for reading!!! Peter Price Paid: $100.00

I was actually looking for the next lower model down after hearing them at a friends but I couldn't find them anywhere. I found these and jumped at them based on several reviews I read. Great price, looks great and the sound is incredible running with my Onkyo receiver. I am not slightest bit disappointed in these speakers in any way. I would recommend them as a speaker with great value and great sound. |

Strength:
None really
Weakness:
Plastic box buzzes when I gave them some power and my old Onkyo only has 50wpc. That translates to 100 wpc to you people with Sony recievers. Lots of drivers for not much sound. Stay away from these if you like quality music sound. No low bass and the highs are shrill to say the least. I bought them for my workout room but took them back in three weeks. I hoped they would break in and sound better but no luck. For the money your better off buying garage sale or thrift store speakers then replacing the drivers yourself (its easy). Sony makes great stuff but not speakers, unless you were lucky enough, like me, to score some of the SSK line. Customer Service Thank God for BB's take em back for 30 day policy. I woulda hated being stuck with these speakers for $250 Similar Products Used: Sony SSK line highly recommended. Wharfedale Diamond 8.4 which I got online for same price as these but sound great. |

Weakness:
Not crazy about the Black/Gray color scheme that Sony seems to stick with for all of their speakers.
This review is really in conjunction with my review of the 650's. I was able to buy both pairs for less than $300 as these were recently discontinued by Sony for some other models which seem to be basically the same but cost more. I saw a few member reviews and some poistive press elsewhere and figured it was worth a try given their low price. I hooked these up to my Pioneer reciever and used the auto set up featureto get them started. After some tweaks I have to say these are very impressive speakers for the money. The bass does not go down as far as the specs say but unlike the 650's which are a little anemic on bass these actually produce decent bass in a 2-channel set-up when played at moderate volume. The highs are clear and not tinny or shrill like one would expect with speakers in these price range. They work well in a 20-channell set-up or as the fronts in a HT set-up in a small to medium sized room. Construction seems solid with real ash and not pressed fiber board which is common in this price range. Cloth grills are a little thin but pop onto the speakers easily. As with the 650's these come with solid binder posts for easy wiring. |

Strength:
Good Price for a set of good sized speakers.
Weakness:
Lackluster sound, coloration, very dry. I was very surprised at how shy these were in the bass region. The "veneer" is terrible. I admit I was sceptical in my pre-judgement before the music even began, but I was even more dissapointed upon actually auditioning these speakers. There are better speakers for the same amount that can be found elsewhere.
Customer Service I have always had good service from this company. Similar Products Used: Many |

Strength:
I've experienced extraordinary potential in these speakers. Turn the receiver way up and they keep up with the power, with every note distinct and clear. Very easy hook-up and I adored the fact that they can hold bannana-plug connectors. Cones are not cheap paper material that you might find in vehicles, rather they're made of Kevlar. Very strong cones. Speaker grills and encasing very well put together, and couldn't complain for my first system. Good buy!
Weakness:
If you intend on buying speakers and no powered subwoofer to go along with them, these speaker won't live up to your expectations. However, with my Yamaha YST-SW500 powered subwoofer, I could not ask for anything more out of these speakers. They needed a little more assistance in reaching those low frequencies. My dad has alwasy been amazed by home theater systems, and, like father, like son, I fell in love with it as well. I was looking for some fabulous speakers, for a price worthy of my money. I went to Best Buy to audition the speakers that are a level below that exhibit dual 6 1/2" woofers, instead of dual 8" woofers. I was very impressed. However, I wasn't totally hooked yet. Then I went on the internet with my dad to research again, and found the speakers I have now. I figured, there's a 30-dollar difference between the two sets of speakers and went ahead and bought these. Hooked them right up to my Yamaha HTR-5730 receiver I had recently bought and I was in love. I couldn't help to notice another review about these experience crackling when the speakers were tested and I must say, that's with the receiver, not these speakers. Very impressed for 210 bucks and I must say that they compete even with my dad's Acoustic Research P315HO earth-shaking speakers. Strength:
great power handling, good loud bass, fanastic SPL levels due to the ported box
Weakness:
lack of defined bass, i've found the speakers to be very boomy. I think it's due to the ported box. I am in the midst of figuring out how to remedy this. Once i fix this issue these speakers will be fanstastic. for the $148 i spent i will have to say they do work quite well. You do get what you pay for. Or maybe a little more. Strength:
cheap price
Weakness:
no crossovers, thin cabinet, poor drivers, very bad sound reproduction. I purchased these for my basement and for playing music thru to practice my drums to, the price was cheap and I figured what the heck how bad can they be....? Well they were pretty bad, really flat and no detail what so ever. I decided to upgrade the tweeter and midrange with new drivers I purchased from parts express, this has made quite a difference, they are actually useable now. Far from ideal but they are good enough for the basement and for practicing to. These should be considered nothing more that basic starter speakers at best. Also of note for comparison, these are powered by a HK 230. |

Strength:
bass, over all sound is like a 500$ set if not better great speakers and with just such a prize tag you will not be made at this one guys
Weakness:
the only weeknees i find in the speakers are the wood vineal they dont lood that real but not even a big deal its hard to tell from about 4 to 6 feet you have to get up real close wow i was wondering how the 750s would sound the day i got them, i new that they would not sound bad or great, i heard the 550s in best buy and i got to say i liked the sound, they had lots of bass got very loud and with great highs and mids. i new that the 750s would sound much better but how much better, to me they sound 3to4 times better then the 550s dont now what the 650s sound like but better then the 550s duh but not as good as the 750s i give them a 5 couse the sound i have an old pair of sa-va3 towers and in there time they were much better then the 750s and the prize was alot more but the 750s will take them out no prob. i did not think that they would take on the va-3s in bass though do to the old sonys were active with subs belt in to the towers. but the 750s out right take them out. they sounded better then a model 4 times the prize but you could say that your comparing 1990s tec with today tec but i love the towers great with my 150s and cn550 center and onkyo ht-r320 5.1 amp and am in a small room so not realy any need to push the speakers to there limits witch means no blown speakers. i have not realy got the speakers to there red line point and i dont want to tell there run in right so i will wight am shure once there broke in they will sound much better then what they do no real pluse. '' if only sony put up 70% of there power in speakers there would be refrance line speakers made by sony that could take on energey klipes and polks high end stuff with out costing as much sony all the way such a trusty manufactor. Weakness:
lack of damping material good tower speaker for the money but needed modified and upgraded to suit me. out of the box this speaker can handle alot of power but imaging and response is a little lacking. i chose to install dayton speaker spikes to fix this problem. but when i got into the cabinet, i found very little damping material. so i had to fix that. this cost me around 60 bucks. but is very well worth it. now i can call these great speakers.
