Strength:

Strong mid range and treble, impressive stereo imaging

Weakness:

None at this price

I purchased these speakers for £109.00 from Unbeatable and I am very impressed with their performance at this price.

The mid range and treble are very impressive and bass extension is relatively good for drivers of this size. Removing the foam bungs from the rear ports and positioning approximately 12" from a rear wall further improves bass response. However, if you are seeking very low frequencies you should consider supplementing these speakers with a sub woofer. Removing the front grills produces improved imaging from the tweeter.

I am using these speakers hooked up to a Kenwood KRF-V7030D receiver as the front pair for my home cinema set-up and in line with a Tannoy MXC (centre speaker) and Tannoy MX1's at the rear they handle the job superbly.

Tannoy has produced a smooth and sweet sounding unit, which I believe is hard to beat at this price. I would recommend these speakers to anyone on a low budget.

Strength:

Bass - especially at high volumes, vocals

Weakness:

Recently taken the foam bungs out of the back of the speakers - the bass is amazing for £120 speakers!! I really can't believe the quality of the sound from these perfectly formed beasts!

Strength:

Very good overall balance. Nice vocals

Weakness:

looks

Very musical and balanced speaker. Sweet treble provides non-fatiguing sound, though not dull either. Plays pretty loud without congestion(better than the JPW in this regard)and plays all music equally well. Amazingly enough it is not made in a black finish. They offer a dark oak, that is a very dark oak with streaks that are almost black, with a grey grill. I find it incredulous that such a fine sounding speaker is compromised so much by it's appearance. Perhaps others willl find it more visually appealing. Sound wise though, hard to beat for the price.

Strength:

Weakness:

lowend bass

these speakers were eagerly awaited by myself, but I found them to be dissapointing. If you listen to rock and dance then forget these speakers. They are most suited to jazz and classical.
The speakers are bi wirable but this makes no improvement (i think its just a fashion budget speakers are going through)
However when playing the likes of Kristen Hirsch then they are a delight.
They are very attractive looking and will have no problem blending in with todays modern furnishings.
However with the likes of Leftfield and Massive attack then they fall down and fail to convey themselves musically!!

Strength:

Excellent imaging, tonal balance, biwiring capability handy.
Mid-range VERY impressive!

Weakness:

Not the most pretty. More laid back than others at this price range.

I'm a fan of the mini-monitors, they provide nice and fast response, often with amazingly tight bass and sweet treble. Recently went to local hi-fi stores to audition speakers for front home theatre system and had spent a bit of time with the above-named speakers. Overall I think the Paradigm and Tannoy came very close in my mind. In the end I chose the MX2 because of the warm mid-range which really brought out beautiful vocals in jazz and pop tunes... Trebles were rendered very well and bass extension not bad given the size (have Hsu Research sub to supplement).

I think the MiniMonitors sound great as well but the bright treble seemed overly harsh and gave me listening fatigue after an hour of listening... This never seems to happen with the Tannoy's.

I have since bi-wired the unit to my Denon AVR-3000 and I agree with the previous poster that I haven't noticed much change in the sound... Pretty hard to say I must admit given that A-B comparisons cannot easily be done. Nonetheless I certainly haven't noticed a degradation and whatever improvement there might be... I WANT IT :-).

In summary... Kudos to Tannoy for a well built unit with fancy features at this price point. Check 'em out before you decide on a mini-monitor!

Strength:

Stereo imaging, clarity and definition of sound, price

Weakness:

Bass can be lacking on some records at low volume, front removable grill distorts sound too much when in place

These speakers have really transformed my CD collection - subtle nuances in the music are now projected with accuracy and enthusiasm from these excellent speakers. It really has been an enlightening experience and I would strongly recommend these budget speakers to anyone. I almost bought a pair of (native) B&W 302's, but these Tannoy's have exceed my expectations. Excellent!
