Strength:

Good detailed sound. Decent soundstage. Solid construction. Handsome appearance. Gold connectors. Can be bi-wired.

Weakness:

Base response is limited, but that's expected with a bookshelf

Waited quite a while to ensure they were broken in, along with the Yamaha 995 and Modus-8 we use for mains. The 83s are a very good value. I picked up the pair for $150 including S/H from ubid. That's an exceptional price for speakers of this quality.

Sonically, they are similar to the Titans, but the 83s have more range - to be expected given their size. The Klipsch KSB 2.1 are superior - but are also $250-300. Since we're using these for surrounds and center, it would not merit the difference.

The 83s are a very capable bookshelf speaker, but aren't well suited for a role as Mains. Instead, spend the extra money for the Klipsch KSB 3.1 or 2.1 (they sound different so listen to both).

At some point, we will no doubt upgrade to the Klipsch Reference series RF-3s for the front. The Modus-8 are nice but don't have the soundstage and full dynamic response of the Klipsch (but they didn't cost us $600-650 either).

Strength:

Looks nice... might be too big for small TV's (<25"). Sounds nice. Good price.

Weakness:

Bass not supported well. Most centers are like that anyway.

Good speakers for the price I paid with UBID. Need extra bass.
