Strength:

Warm sound, good bass at low volume.

Weakness:

Can't find any weeknesses.

I bought the speakers at 10'000 Belgian Francs all taxes included(=250$)and i'm using them with a Technics 720 receiver.
Just wondering why they are more expensive in Europe (even is the price/performance ration is still excellent) Apparently the common price in the US is 107$.

Similar Products Used:

I've tried a pair of Technics (210$) and JBL's (350$)before buying these, but the wharfedales sound a lot better !

Strength:

Price, musical range.

Weakness:

Low end isn't quite low enough. Very plastic looking construction.

Like many folks, I just picked up a pair of these from uBid. I have a decent HT setup with older Boston Acoustic THX speakers (555x,575x,595x). Those are great for HT, but not so great for music. So I grabbed these for stereo listening. One word, nice... Low to moderate volume, they sound great. As you push them though, you realize the need for s sub to fill in the lows. No distortion at any volume thus far, the bottom just starts to fall off a little. Can't expect much more from tower speakers without a built-in powered sub.

Strength:

Exceptionally good bass, even at very low volumes. Sounds brilliant with electronic types of music. Rock and live recordings are also very good.

Weakness:

Might look a bit plastic-y to some people. They also might benefit a little from small speakers stands (+- 30cm), since they only stand 82cm high.

I picked up this set of speakers at a local AV dealer for an killer price of R1600 (South African Rand, about US$260). Normally they go for R2500 (US$416). They were such a good price, I couldn't let such a bargain go by!

I am extremely happy with their sonic performance. Bass is nice and deep, but also provides decent thump (the way I actually like bass, must be well-defined, not overpowering).

Currently I am driving them with a Sony GR8 mini-hifi, and some people will probably kill me for that, but I plan on getting a decent AV receiver/amp very soon (e.g. Yamaha DSP A595a, Denon AVR-1800, etc.). I'm on a tight budget and am building up my system from scratch. I feel that with the Valdus 400's I have made a good start.

Come to think of it, they already sound so good with the little mediocre Sony system, just think how great they will sound with something that will really give them a good workout. Can't WAIT!

If you want a decent set of speakers for a price that won't let you go hungry for two months, these speakers are definately worth having a look at. Give them a try... you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

Clear crisp sound.

Weakness:

Plastic nameplate on front.

I was hooked by U-bid and pick up two for $87ea.
They replaced my wife's college speakers and they sound great. The sound is clear and crisp and the bass is exellent. Would highly reccomend. Using Pioneer rec'vr, Radio Shack 10 band eq., and 12" sub-woofer.

After using Bose and Infiniti speakers for a while I decided to get a better set of front speakers and I saw the Wharfedale Valdus 400's on UBid for a good price, and the reviews here were great so I decided to try them.
WOW!! The highs are SUPER clear and the midrange is sharp and powerful with no hint of breaking up even at high volumes.

I am using a H/K AVR-75, which has been a fantastic receiver, and paired with the Valdus 400's, I get absolutely amazing sound.

5 stars, but only beacuse there is no 6-star rating...

Lots of bass and the tweeter is amazing. You can get this pair at a reasonable price on the net.

I like the overrall sound quality. They work great as front speakers for my sorround sound system. So far no complaints but I've only had them for 2 months. Got @ Ubid for $107 each.

Strength:

Price; clear, detailed sound for home theatre or more modern musical sounds...

Weakness:

Plastic nameplate.... best used with a subwoofer...

Used with a Yamaha RXV-995, Klipsch sub, center and rears. Thinking of picking up the Valdus centre, but the bright (and already mismatched) Klipsch KV-1 (a leftover from days past) is a surprisingly good sonic match...

I took the chance at Ubid and picked these up for about $200/pair, shipping inclusive. I thought I could always use them for a second system, but they've displaced my muddy sounding "just out of college on a budget but still paid more than for the Wharfy" DCMs. I've auditioned other mass market speakers in the same range (and 2x) and these easily sound better.

For the price, I'm quite happy. A bit bright souding but a very good choice for home theatre. The strength of these speakers is for home theater and the aforementioned rock/electronica/dance. They show their weakness on classical, jazz, and acoustic rock.

Recently replaced the wiring with 12 gauge OFC wire and noticed an improvement.

Strength:

Good punchy bass, very loud, very high, crsip treble, look powerfull

Weakness:

crappy grill, corny plastic logo on front

When i first heard 'em, i was amazed at the low frequency's, and how punchy they sounded. As they've worn in a bit now, they sound more 'open' slightly, with a more definable sound. The bass is pretty good for there size, only standing 80 something cm's tall and 25cm wide. They are more for loud, more modern music, rather then classical, or anything very instumental. They also sound louder then any other speakers, because of there 92db sensitivity, good for parties.
The only complaints ive got, is that they may look a little brash for some, with a plasticy look and a cheapy logo. If you're a real enthusiast, you want to use a sub in conjunction with them, as they lack slightly in the 'earthquake, floor shaking rumbles'.
Over all they've pleased me, and havnt let me down at all, cranking them up only makes will only damage you're house, but not these! Unbeateble at the price [it was 100 quid actually, but i took a guess at $130.]

Strength:

excellent punchy, loud, bass; nice treble

Weakness:

lacking in power in the midrange

for the price (£100 sterling) these represent excellent value for money, in light walnut, the finish looks the buisness.
Powered by my latest aquisition - Arcam Alpha 9 the bass sounds excellent but the midrange could possibly do with some tweaking using an eq.

my mates eltax floorstands powered by a marantz amp are about the same volume - the mid and treble is possibly slightly clearer on the eltax but the bass and treble on the 400's shines well past that of the eltax's.

rich sounding and well worth the money i paid for them
