Nothing, at $87 per I too caught the UBID bug, Recently ordered the Valdus 400's for fronts, Wharfedale Modus center and a pair of small Klipsch for the surrounds, all hooked up to a Nakamichi 1a1z intergrated Amp. (denon dvd player, parasound cd-player, all MIT terminator 4 cables) The 400's sound and look great, I still can't beleive the price I paid for such a fine speaker. The entire "UBID" system as I call it is truely remarkable. The Nak is a heck of an Receiver. For everone out there, GO ahead and UBID!!!!! |

I have to say that I've never heard such quality sound from a pair of speakers. The separation is great and even my old LPs sound good through these speakers. Wharfedale has outdone themselves with the Valdus line. I picked up a pair of these nice speakers for just $399.99/pair at www.cyberteria.com. Excellent deal! |

I was in the market for some new speakers, have never heard of Wharfedale speakers until recently. I stumbled across them by accident on Ubid. They looked interesting enough for me to do some investigation. I came to this sight and was shocked to find that so many people had bought these speakers and had enjoyed them. So as I said they were on Ubid and I was willing to give them a try if the price was right. I won a set of these last week for $214 a pair. A lot less expensive than I was willing to pay for some other brands. I thought at that price I could sell them if I did not like them to someone who was a Wharfedale fan. They finally came UPS today, and upon opening them I noticed that these speakers are made as well as some other high end speakers. If they sound as good as the look, I was going to have a great pair of speakers. I have to say these speakers sound great. Great bass, great high, and voice quality sounds as though the person is in the room with you. The highs remind me of a pair of Polk Audio r12's that I used to have. Just for anyones reference I am using all Denon equipment with two 150 watt mono amplifieres on them. All this for a speaker that was only a little more than $200. I do not believe that I could ask for more than that. |

Strength:
price, tight bass
Weakness:
not the best midrange I bought these for $200 on ubid, and for that price, these speakers really are a good deal. They will give you pretty low, tight bass, and are accurate in the high and low ranges. The only problem with the sound is that the midrange is not as accurate as it could be. In fact, it's barely noticable to me, and most other people don't notice it at all, but for some people, it could be a problem. However, since I'm entering college in the fall, I am on a budget to tight to be picky. I auditioned several other models in the $200 range, and I liked these the best. Compared with most other $200 speakers that I tried, these played with tighter bass, and louder with less distortion. This probably also has something to do with my choice in music. about 60% of the music I listen to is punk, mostly 80s brit punk and early 90s grunge/hardcore punk. These speakers do a good job with this, producing clear low notes, even off of bad recordings, and can play loud with no distortion. I also listen to alot of trance ambient, which uses high notes, and deep bass, but dosen't concentrate on the midrange as much as say classical. For this type of music, again, the price and value can't be beat. I would say that these speakers were designed with electronic music in mind, and this is where they show their best side. I would agree with some of the prior reviewers that the midrange isn't perfect, but I think that many of these people were comparing the Wharfedales unfairly to more expensive speakers. While I have heard better speakers, I haven't heard better speakers at this price. I highly recommend these speakers to anyone looking for speakers in this price range. |

Strength:
Valdus 400's have crisp transient highs and the solid low-end punch. It is difficult to find speakers that will work well in both home theatre and stereo modes but the Valdus 400’s do a spectacular job, and do it effortlessly!
Weakness:
They are slightly lacking in the mid’s but that’s what an EQ is for. I am a production coordinator. I deal with concert sound and the other technical aspects with many of the national and international acts here in the USA on the west coast such as Nazareth, Blue Oyster Cult, Quiet Riot and many others.
