I have seen from your comments about this speakers and the things against this speaker is PRICE and mid base, yet the rating given is not bad at all to reflect the bad things said about it. I will describe my experience.I had the pair on loan to me for a month - I use Krell MDA300 to drive it. Very nice and sweet sound, though not as natural as my Apogee. But as you said, base is boomy, so I spend lots of time to get place the speakers. |

okokokokokokok, i have purchased the Wilson system VI, traded in Dunlavy IV's for them, and use an all Levinson system to drive these, i belive, attractive little speakers; Levinson 332, 380S, 36S, 37, with Transparent Reference speaker cable, and Discovety Plus 4 balanced interconnects. Yes, its quite true that good placement is mandatory, and should your listening room have echo or reflection problems, this speaker system will hightlight them, BUT.........if you really work on your listening room, and with the appropiate software (music), the depth and soundstanging is absolutely wonderful. True, we are not going to be able to create the impression of musicians playing in our homes, but we can, when the system is configured quite well, definately recreate the complete recording of the music, as the producer of that music had invisioned. |

Weakness:
Buyers who don't do their homework. An amazing speaker which requires careful matching of componants. Take the time, make the investment, and you too will be rewarded. Similar Products Used: Naim, Linn, TDL, Totem, Velodyne. |

Strength:
very transparent, detailed, punchy, fast
Weakness:
expensive. a tad bright They are incredible speakers but it demands a lot of attention to room set up as well as ancillary equipment. When I first got them, the sound was so bright that I almost ran out of my room. It turned out that they had to be toed in, and be close to the listening position. Room treatment as well as first class ancillary equipment is a first. I also matched it with REL Stadium II subwoofer and voila. It's like everything snapped into place and sounds just right. My mood went from sore disappointment to being happy as a puppy!!! Similar Products Used: thiel cs5 |

I read every review on these speakers because I was Auditioning them. I also read the B&W N 801 reviews and with all the negative reviews here I was shying away from the Watt/Puppy's. |

WILSON SYSTEM 5.1 REPLACED SONUS FABER EXTREMA SPEAKERS, IN MY WADIA / CONRAD JOHNSON HI-END SYSTEM.THE MARRIAGE WAS SHORT LIVED ! IN SHORT I FOUND THE WILSONS A BIT HARSH , WITH A SHALLOW SOUND STAGE. THEY HAVE GIVEN WAY TO TANNOYS MIGHTY D900 , WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT YOU COULD GO TWICE AS FAR ( TO HEAVEN ) , ON HALF THE MONEY !! |

Strength:
Exceptionally clear and dynamic sound
Weakness:
They are demanding taskmasters, unforgiving of slacker upstream components or setup I never thought I would own a pair of box speakers again, having graduated from various Magnepans to Acoustats to Martin Logans. Hell, Gayle Sanders (ML) is one of my neighbors, and I love his work. I listened to these at the advice of a friend who owns Acoustat 2+2. I had Martin Logan CLS2Z's at the time. My friend and his wife were just blown away by the Wilsons, and I was thinking, yeah right, box speakers, oh boy. They were right on. We listened at first with Levinson equipment and there was definitely something there. Later, I went back with my trusted little Marantz 8b tube amp, hooked it up and WOW, magic. I also had a Audio Research amp, didn't even try it, as the Marantz produced a just-like-live-music emotional response with the Wilsons that made me weak in the knees. I wrote out the check straight away. Take my word for it, an EL34 tube in triode mode is heaven on these speakers. Are they perfect? No. They could be more efficient, although in my smaller listening room I just get by with 20 WPC triode. These speakers will just spank your ears if the setup isn't right (front end, cables, tube type used, grounding problems, etc). They are expensive as hell new (very reasonable used). The WATTS are much better than the Puppy's. To my ear the Puppy 5 bass is somewhat bloated and ill-defined due to a upper bass hump, even with solid state gear. It also missed the bottom couple of octaves entirely in the two rooms I've heard it in. No problem, I swapped the Puppy's for Gibralter stands and a separate subwoofer. I understand the latest model 6 fixes this with a larger enclosure. I've owned the WATTS going on a year now, and they STILL give me goosebumps. At one point I was severely tempted to go the next step to Avantgarde horns and actually put these up for auction to do this. Thank goodness no one bid, these aren't going anywhere for awhile yet! Those horns better be something special indeed... Similar Products Used: Martin Logan (various models, including latest CLS), Acoustat (various models), Magneplanar (various models) |

Strength:
Transparenr, amazing detail, life alike and huge sondstging
Weakness:
none I don't owen pair but I'm looking to buy a pair for the right price used. I've listen to this speakers at KS World in Bangkok with Electorcompaniet AW 180 class A mono blocks wich I've bought, they were making Wilsons sound life alike I was amazed by the quality of sound, detail and transparency of this speaker. I've listen to other speakers as well like Revel Saloon, JM lab mini utopia, Dali megaline, dynaudio confidence 5 and Sonus Faber Amatti, they are all very nice speakers but Wilsons I've liked the most. If you have a chance, just listen to them in a right set up and you will be blown away by them. Similar Products Used: Revel Saloon, Utopia, SF Amatti Homage |

I have recently spent months selecting my new speakers. I checked out the Andras at Singer and was truly disappointed. They had a hardness in the mid-range that was unlistenable. I also listened to the JMLab, the big Maggies, and Thiel. I ultimately chose the WattV/Puppy V.I based on their soundstage and , particularly, their dynamics. I have given only 4 of 5 stars as the Watt/Puppys lack that last bit of bass. I have not noticed the mid-bass hump others have noted, but will attest that location is critical. Break-in is equally important as they are bright and lean out of the box (crate, actually). People are appalled by their cost, however they presented the best sound for me. |
