Correction from my previous post: I paid around US$600 (including shipping) for the 6 speakers, not US$500. This seemed very reasonable as I was quoted US$800 plus tax by my local audio dealer.

Strength:

Small, unobtrusive, great sound

Weakness:

none

These are the best small speakers I have
ever listened to. I have combined them
with the Denon 3300 receiver. In the 5
channel listening mode they completely fill
the room. They are are also great with
movies and the optional e-xl 8 subwoofer is
extremely responsive.

Strength:

price, exceptional sound quality, & size, and hey they are Canadian made!!!!!"NO DOOT ABOOT IT"

Weakness:

None that I can hear

This is the first set of new speakers I have ever purchased. For the longest while I thought I was going to be buying BOSE. I thought because they were so expensive they would be good. I then decided to shop around before I would purchase any speakers. I listened to the POLK AUDIO systems R10, R15, R25, and the sub and they sounded OK so I kept on shopping. I had heard about Energy speakers before and listened to a buddys tower system, but did not know they made the Take 5 system. I went into Laser Home Theatre ( Energy retailer) one day and they had the BOSE system, and the Energy's hooked up side by side. I originally asked the salesman about the BOSE, and he said try both of them first. Well the Take 5's were crisper and clearer and reproduced the music much better than the BOSE and POLK system. He then gave me a pamphlet with a price and I nearly fell on my arse. I couldn't believe the energy speakers were alot cheaper than BOSE and still cheaper than POLK and smaller as well. I had a pair of AKAI towers that took up alot of space. They are now gone and my energy's are mounted on the wall and the sub behind a quilt rack in the corner. My wife now has room for some more of her crafty nic nacs, and I have a room full of awesome ENERGY sound. We are both happy. I only bought a pair of Take 5's and the 8" sub. They are mounted with the mega mounts and they haven't sagged yet. ( tighten them with wrench )
I also researched before I bought these speakers on this website. You can get good info on products here. I also have found there is no lack of mid-range.They sound just as good for music as they do with the movies. Anyone looking at buying speakers, please give these babies a serious look, you will be impressed.

Strength:

Price, ability to play loud, good imaging and soundstage.

Weakness:

High coloration, frequency response is fairly uneven.

These speakers provide good soundstaging and imaging but has a few important shortcomings that a buyer should be aware of. First I do credit them for being able to reproduce good dynamics for HT but music is piss poor affair with these speakers. As with all sub-sat systems they have a weak midrange as well as midbass. They also seem to have a uneven frequency response allowing some detail to fade away. Given the competition for the price they are a OK value but for a bit more money you can get substantial improvements.

Just for Example

Paradigm Atom $179 a pair list
Paradogm CC70 $139 per list
Paradigm PDR-8 $279 per list

Total Package Price $776 not including any discounts off list. This package would certainly outperform the Take 5 and there a couple of speaker companies with good combo's out there.

So here is my take

They give a OK performance scoring a 3
They are a good value giving scoring a 4

Giving a 3.5 out of 5

I ordered the Take5 with the e:XLS8 sub. Just came in today and connected a pair for listening. Well, the sound was incredible for its size. Clarity, depth and imaging was fantastic. Will try it with the sub next, this could only improve the sound.
The Take5 with sub and mega mounts was ordered from Audioshop (in Canada) and took only 3 business days. A good place to deal with and the price was right.

I've had the Take 5 system for a few months now....awesome....and just added the ES-8 Subwoofer I got on sale for $200....Incredible! I have them hooked up to a Sony 925 Dolby Digital/DTS reciever....I haven't had a chance to test out the digital yet (saving up for a dvd player) but the surround sound (pro-logic) sounds great on it! I definetely recommend this system to anyone interested in a wonderful sound system at a decent price (The reciever was about $550, the speakers about $500, the subwoofer about $200......so with tax and cables and wire about $1500....trust me its worth it!) Happy listening!

I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO GET A GOOD SYSTEM FOR A WHILE, BUT I CAME ACROSS THE TAKE5 WHEN ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, THEN I FINALLY GOT THEM SINCE I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND TOO MUCH MONEY FOR MY LITTLE APARTMENT. I AM VERY HAPPY ABOUT MY SYSTEM, THEN I SAW THE NEW KLIPSCH SYSTEM (QUINTETT) AND THOUGHT, I HOPE I DIDN'T BUY TOO SOON BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE TECHNOLOGIE GOES, SO I WENT TODAY TO LISTEN TO THEM AND GUESS WHAT, MY TAKE5'S STILL SOUND BETTER. GREAT JOB ENERGY AND THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME MANY HAPPY MOVIE/MUSIC NIGHTS

Just bought these 5 small speakers for under 400 bucks. Sound is excellent. I also compare the sound with Bose AM 12. Enegy Take 5 sounds much better. I recommend this set of speakers for everyone with small to Mid size listening room.
