Strength:
Small Size, Great Sound
Weakness:
None that I have found These speakers produce amazing sound given their size. Thanks to the reviews on this post for pointing out these speakers. I use them with Energy e:XL-S8 subwoofer and Denon AVR-3300 receiver. The movies sound terrific. CD (Music) playback is also very good , if not great. If you are on a limited budget and need a much better alternative to Bose speakers, go get Energy Take 5 Series -- You won't be disappointed. For this small a size and price, you cannot get any better sounding speakers. |

Great sound/small in size This is my first try at home theater. On a limited budget, and reading through the recommendations of this website, I visited a local retailer to audition the Energy Take 5 system with the XLS8 powered subwoofer. I was very pleased with the sound and feel that for the price, you can't go wrong with this set up. The sound with a DVD is great, and sound with CD's is good too. I'd recommend the 10" subwoofer for a little deeper bass, but the 8" will suffice on a budget as I am. |

Strength:
sound in home theater, price, quality
Weakness:
sound when used for CD playing After a year of use, I can't complain about the product. The only minus was that these spaekers are ok for CD playing. But when its DVD, VCR or TV sound you are looking for, this product more than satisfies. I have friends that have the other Energy speaker systems too and they, like me, swear by them. I love the nice, crisp, full range sound they offer. Nice compact size too. |

Strength:
small, cheap, above average sound
Weakness:
mid-range gap Had this system in my home for 2 weeks and loved it. That is until I heard the Def Tech Pro Cinema 80 sub/sat system at a local dealer. The Def Techs fill the holes and add significant quality to what the take 5s can do. I got the Def Tech 80's, Pro Center 100, and Pro Sub 100 (10") for $850 delivered. You can get it with the 8" sub for $750. I know this is a little more expensive, but the increase in sound quality and speaker build is huge! You put yourself into near audiophile quality immediately when you own this system. It easily rivals $1500-2000 systems. Seriously, this setup with absolutely make you friends' take 5 system sound childish. All in all the take 5's are alright, but for 200 dollars you can make a quantum leap into true quality. Just find some and listen, I promise you'll agree. Similar Products Used: Def Tech Pro Cinema 80 |

Strength:
Inexpensive, excellent sound for the money, compact size
Weakness:
Sub needs to be positioned carefully to eliminate the 'hole' in the upper bass. Mr. Young is obviously not qualified to review speakers. To give these speakers 1 star is outrageous - he is effectively calling these speakers trash and not worthy of your consideration. Fortunately, his views are not shared by the rest of the audiophile community as these speakers have consistently won high praise here and by highly regarded professional reviewers. Are there better speakers? Sure. For the same amount of money? You'd be hard pressed to find anything as good. The DefTech Cinema 80's might be slightly better and also merits consideration, but you can't get it for $500 like you can the Take 5's. The Take 5's are an excellent entry level HT speaker system that also excels with music. True, there is a hole in the upper bass but that can be ameliorated with careful positioning of the sub and setting the crossover to ~ 95hz. Easily 5 stars for value, but because of the hole, I'd have to give it 4 stars. overall. |

Strength:
Reasonable price, outstanding sound
Weakness:
None that I have noticed The Take 5 w/ the woofer (8" in my case)is everything that is claimed on this review board. When my wife heard I was bringing 6 speakers into the living room she was not pleased. But she is smiling now because 5 of them are hardly noticeable and the woofer looks good with a plant on it. I don't ever expect to require better HT sound than this. |

I am extremely impressed with these speakers. I run them with a Yamaha 595a, and I have the E:xl s10 sub. The sound is very smooth and crisp. The 10 inch sub is powerful and produces massive invisible bass. I too bought them from Marc in Canada and would recommend doing the same. This review board introduced me to Energy speakers and enlightened me about Bose products. I had bought the Bose AM 15 set and can honestly say that the total sound dynamics don't come close to the Take 5 system. These are excellent speakers which becomes apparent as you read this review board. Similar Products Used: Bose AM 15 |

Strength:
Excellent for HT use;
Weakness:
Little weak on music; I picked this up on recommendation from this board. Picked up the set with the sub for about $550 shipped. Great product for the price. Don't think you can get the quality for this price. These speakers are matched up with my Sony ES 333. Fits perfectly in the livingroom in my apartment. |
