Strength:
Great sound Heavy and well-constructed Cheap!!!
Weakness:
Needs a subwoofer can't hear them before you buy them Finish is not as bad as some people have said but could be better Shipping is expensive but overall price is awesome wish all speakers had banana plugs but that's what the SX-HTB is for rear speakers could be better I bought these speakers just before I went to college (I’m a sophomore) and they sound absolutely awesome. I have them hooked up to a Harman/Kardon AVR 225 and DVD25, which provides clean and powerful sound. I researched these speakers a lot before I bought them and read A LOT of reviews and opinions. Like many others, I was a little hesitant to pay $250 for speakers I had never listened to before. The audio that comes from these speakers is nothing short of amazing. I concur with other listeners as they do have a tinny sound during the 10-hr break-in period but afterwards completely lose any tinniness and sound awesome. The center channel provides really clear dialogue for movies and the two mains produce pounding sound that makes music and action movies really come alive. One note on the mains, I have detected strain on the mains in really intense movie scenes when I have my receiver treat the mains as “large” and with no subwoofer. Adding a subwoofer takes away this strain and lets the mains handle the frequencies it was designed for; creating more clean sound and less strain. The surrounds are a bit of a disappointment as I think they could be better but as they don’t really do much in surround sound movies and nothing in music; it’s not really that big a deal to me. I may replace them with the Fluance bipolar surrounds but will have to do a little research first. I have yet to buy a subwoofer but have borrowed a roommate's subwoofer (JBL PB10) to add the “.1” and it really makes the whole system sound much better. The subwoofer adds that extra “oomph” and makes explosions and anything with really, really low frequencies sound much better. The finish is a little cheap-looking but is not that bad. Let’s just say it could be better; maybe use the piano-gloss look that other speaker companies use. The bottom line is DO NOT LET THE BRAND NAME FOOL YOU!!! THESE ARE REALLY GOOD SPEAKERS!! Do not think that what I’m saying is to make a really crappy package sound decent. Everything I say is completely the truth and is representative of how I really feel. These speakers are well constructed and heavy and sound like a system priced around $500-$700. These speakers are an excellent choice for a great budget sound system and for college students as they are a real steal at only $200+$50 shipping!!! Strength:
Can reach high levels of volume without distortion, sturdy constuction
Weakness:
None for that price A very good bargain for the price. Crisp and clear sounding, but needs a sub for potential to really shine. Needs about 10 hours of use to break in, but once broken in, placed with a sub and positioned properly these babies really smoke. Similar Products Used: AR floorstanding and bookshelfs and AR Subs. Good build quality Looks nice Clean, clear sound
Weakness:
Needs a sub Large, if space is an issue I was originally in the market for the Klipsch Quintet system with the 10" sub - a system that would have run me close to $700, but after doing some last minute research on this website, I made a very impulsive decision to go with the Fluance AV-HTBs. My first impressions were positive as the speakers appear to be well built, and they look pretty good (black wood grain finish). But then I plugged them in. The sound seemed to be clean but definitely lacked depth and richness. I remained patient and broke them in with a variety of CDs/DVDs over the course of a week and still no better. So I finally decided to add a subwoofer. My goal was to find a subwoofer of equal quality/capability. I ended up going with the Acoustic Research S108ps and the Fluance speakers absolutely came to life. What a difference!!!! I think 1/2 the reviews here suggest that the AV-HTBs are fine without a sub, and 1/2 claim that they need a sub. I certainly think they sound much more complete with a sub. Go with Fluance, add a nice sub and enjoy great sound on a budget. As a final note, I live in a loft that's essentially a wide open 1000+ square foot living area, and the Fluance speakers are far more than I'll ever need to fill that area. In fact, I don't even push them beyong 20-30% because I don't want to disturb the neighbors. |

Strength:
Sounds, looks and build quality. Great placement provides an upgraded look for any entertainment or living room without being bulky or oversized but still providing excellent clarity and sound placement. Sounds clean from very low volume to high volume without loss of quality.
Weakness:
Not much weaknesses here. The rear surround speaker brackets that are built on are just a bit small and are not localized. I solved it by buying a pair of surround brackets from Walmart ($10) versus expensive bracket from other stores. I just drilled them on the back with some wood screws and place them on the wall. Now they are perfect for positioning. This speaker package impressed me more than I anticipated. They arrived in a doubled packed box, well secured and in excellent condition. The speakers have a black but simulated wood grain finish with nice mess grills and a cool silver company badge on the front. The sound was clean and clear, not to harsh and not to boomy. Perfect balance in both surround sound and music use. Couple this system with a moderately priced receiver with ample power and you will have a wonderful setup. I took the extra step and added the Fluance Bp2 (bipolar speakers) as the surrounds and used just one of the original av-htv surrounds as the surround back. This created a perfect 6.1 experience. GO BUY THESE SPEAKERS. SUPRISE YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!! Similar Products Used: Too much to mention but all upper level speaker options. Bang and olufsen and other similarly priced speakers. Great stuff but work break the average pocket. |

Strength:
-Price -Sound -Build quality (strong)
Weakness:
-Its APPEARANCE is not as impressive as its sound. The system is composed of 5 black rectangles. -Shipping is $50. Then again, it comes from Canada, and it's heavy. After reading all the positive reviews, I'm still skeptical. Those who reviewed this system have only been using it less than 3 months, so of course the system will still sound good to them. I have used this set for over a year now, and it STILL SOUNDS GREAT! So, "ditto" to what everyone said so far. Get a subwoofer for more wall-rumbling effects. Similar Products Used: -none |

Rich Sound Sounds much more expensive Looks good
Weakness:
$49 shipping charge I decided like many others to take the plunge, for $200, I thought it was worth the risk but oh boy was i wrong, there was no risk! These speakers are just amazing, for $200, wow! Honestly, if you close your eyes and just listen to them, they sound like speakers in the $700 range. No they do not compare to the high end speakers, but they are not supposed to. Actually, they can compare to some high end speakers. Obviously, since the system is missing a subwoofer, the rich low's are missing but a sub should fix that. Thinking of getting the Acoustic Research 8' sub for $99, seems like a good deal. The mids and highs are produced eloquently, with the highs not sounding too bright. I tested the system with the Amelie Soundtrack, it plays it very well. MOvies sound great, heck, I have been hearing sounds i never did with my Dad's Bose system. Sound is rich and filling, not flat at all as other speakers in the range are. If you have $200 to spend, heck if you have $700 to spend, get these speakers. Fluance is going big soon just as Energy did. As Energy raised their prices since they are a recognized brand, so will Fluance, not soon, but the time will come. With my experience, these Fluance sound better than the first Energy Take 5 system, a more richer sound, not by much, but you can hear the difference. Also, they look much better.
