Strength:
Quality look. Great sound. Great price.
Weakness:
If you don't have a big TV, you'll have to get one, just so your front speakers aren't the center of attention. I wanted to get some speakers for music and movies. After using these Fluance speakers for about a month, I thought I should let people know what I think. These speakers look great and sound great for $200. I've mostly been using the front speakers, and have been very pleased. The only complaint I have is that my wife doesn't want me to hook up all five speakers in our small apartment. Seriously, the speakers are beautiful. I added a 75-watt subwoofer, and I love the sound. I still haven't turned the volume up too far, but these speakers definitely sound better the louder I've played them. I would recommend them to anyone (not that I'm an expert, just a happy customer). I feel like I got a great deal for the price. I hate giving a five, but I really would feel bad not to. My expectations were surpassed by far. |

Strength:
Excellent value for money.
Weakness:
Available only in one finish (black ash). No subwoofers made by the company Looking for a set of GOOD home theater speakers under $250 and finding good quality ones seemed to be an impossible task. However, having owned a set of Fluance AV-HTB for under a week, I can highly recommend them to anyone, even if their budget is much larger. They have excellent low-frequency response and the highs are not harsh. The construction quality & finish is immaculate. I am very, very pleased to buy these speakers! I bought them brand new for $233 (inclusive of shipping) on an ebay store (One Bigbuy) - it not only worked out to be cheaper than buying from fluance.com, but they also threw in a pair of gold-plated banana plugs for free. Excellent service from that store too. Similar Products Used: Infinity RS 1 bookshelf speakers |

sound field,appearance
Weakness:
placement is crucial after reading reviews in many forums ,i purchased the fluance sx-htp surround sound system.guess the only thing i can say after listening to them is WOW.As w/any surround sound system, setup placement and decibel measurement is critical.Once this is done(these speakers do need a subwoofer added to them)i was amazed.I listened to boston, polk, and many other systems costing much more and can honestly tell you,for $2000 or less, nothing comes close to sounding as good as these speakers.1 other note, for proper connection, use banana plugs for these speakers. |

Strength:
clean, crisp surround sound....very good price.
Weakness:
styling is bland...but heck I don't care GIVE ME SOUND!!! Just picked these up from eBay. Very surprised! The styling is average but the sound is very good. I evened things up with a middle of the road powered sub (JVC). I bought this set for my basement, now I'm buying another set in natural wood for the living room system. You can't go wrong with the sound quality in regards to a surround system but for 2 channel music you might want to spend more cash. The seller on ebay offers a main speaker set, I would have no problem buying these because of the quality of the surround I bought. For the money you can't go wrong....I'm currently running these with a cheapo junky JVC RX-558V, I upgraded to a Harman Karden AVR-120Z....I'll expect even better quality when I hook these up thru it. Strength:
great stereo imagery for the price. one of the greatest deals out there.
Weakness:
sensitivity a little weak. highs are not that detailed. cheap cabinetry. I agree with all the reviews on this site. I listen to music a lot, mainly classical, and especially choral music. I've been singing for about 10 years now and use well-mastered choral cd's as reference recordings. Well, the main speakers have great imaging, but struggles a little on the highs. I have a few piezo radio shack tweeters that go to 40khz (we can't hear that anyway), and added it to the system. Since this was just an experiment I just used some low guage speaker wire and positioned the tweeters (very bright) behind and at the base of the speaker facing the opposite direction. Definitely added a little more to the sound. Highly recommended if you want to open up the sound of your fluance mains. I tried adding a tweeter to the center, but it sounded way too harsh. I took it away and the sound was more natural. The only qualms I have is that it has a pretty poor dispersion, meaning you might have to position the speaker right at the listener. I've been through at least FIVE different set-ups including some higher ended Klipsch. THIS is a great bargain at $250. Great way to add a home theater system in a small room or bedroom. These babies are power hungry, and do not have that much bass. My THX sub was a great compliment to these speakers. I'm in the process of designing my own home theater (projection, seating, environment, the works) right now and would not hesitate to use these speakers as my main system -(not unless I win the lotto!) Strength:
Great sound!! Low price. Very good looks. I expected the high frequency sounds to be very anoying, but they blend very well.
Weakness:
Had to construct that box to really bring out the bass. I listen to a lot of music... and I mean A LOT OF MUSIC!!! When I first saw these speakers for sale on a website I thought, "Wow, a complete 5 speaker system for $250(after shipping)" I just assumed that they would be low quality speakers produced in some third world country and that the speaker boxes would be constructed of cardboard. I was definitely wrong. I began to realize that these speakers may not be low quality when I got a knock on my door, and a big burly UPS guy asked if I would help bringing the packege in from the truck. These speakers are HEAVY! They came double boxed, with nice padding. Before I tell you about how the speakers sound, let me tell you that my receiver is a cheap old receiver that I bought from a pawn shop. Anyway I hooked these speakers up, along with my large 15" external subwoofer because I had read that these speakers produced absolutely no bass. To my amazement when I activated the 15" sub there was WAAAAAY too much bass. So I disconnected it and only ran the 5 fluance speakers. The sound quality was excellent... straight out of the box. The bass was definitely present, and complimented the system, but it wasn't overpowering. In short I encourage anyone to buy these speakers, because they are definitely worth ever penny spent. They sound wonderful(dvd movies especially, but music sounds good also) despite the fact that they are being powered by a VERY cheap receiver. I CAN'T STRESS HOW GOOD THESE SPEAKERS ARE!! On a side note I have improved the bass greatly by constructing a small wooden box (just a box with no top)(8x8x24) and placeing the box on it's side with the open end facing the bass port which is on the back of the tower speakers. I placed the box about 3-4 inches from the bass port. This helped make the bass so much better. Watching the battle scenes from the Pearl Harbor dvd was amazing. Bombs exploding would actually hit you in the chest. Within 10 minutes my neighbor(live in apartments)started banging on the wall. It's just a suggesion. ;) Anyways over all of the surround sound systems that I listened to didn't compare to these speakers, especially when you consider the price!!! Strength:
PRICE!!! Quality and sound. Leaves the buyer with a satisfied grin while leaving enough money in your pocket to take the spouse out in return for buying more audio equiptment!!! :-)
Weakness:
A subwooofer will become a necessity for enhanced lows, and Dolby Digital applications. Fluance does not offer any powered or passive subwoofers. Believe me...I was also quite skeptical. I think another reviewer already said that in the world of audio you usually get what you pay for. Unfortunately for most of us without the huge pocketbooks, we usually have to settle. Well, enter the Fluance line of home speaker systems. It seems that finally a company has come to realize that great sound does not have to be out of reach of the majority. I ordered the AV-HTB 5 system off of a distributor selling on eBay and the total including shipping was $224.00. When these speakers arrived, I was immediately impressed by the weight and how solid they felt. They were well packaged (doubled boxed) and encased in plastic and a custom foam packaging system which attributed to a flawless arrival. The total shipping time was 7 days from Canada to Reno, NV which is respectable when using UPS Standard. Another note is that it was shipped the same day that I paid... After excitedly connecting these speakers to my receiver I noticed that the sound was a bit tinny, but after the first few days of playing them they have "broken in" for lack of a better term and now the sound is full and rich. Very unexpected sound quality from a $200 speaker system. The Mids and Highs are clear and distinct with a nice, even blend of lows. Don't expect bass that rattles your neighbors windows, but you will find that these midsize towers provide a very good amount of punch for most listeners. I would recommend a additional subwoofer for you bass hounds. The center provides crisp vocals and light music--crucial for any decent home theater, and the surrounds are perfectly matched to give you the sound of a bird chirping to your left or an bullet whizzing by on your right. For those of you with DSP, the surrounds create an excellent reproduction of whatever atmosphere you choose--from a live concert hall to a small auditorium. All in all, this system is a wonderful addition to CASUAL home theater or stereo enthusiasts. Many folks will tell you to go with more trusted brands such as Infinity, Polk, Bose, Paradigm, etc... and these and many more are all excellent choices. However they also come with price tags that put us in the poorhouse. I almost expect Fluance to start raising thier prices, but I'm thankful that they are not. Kudos to Fluance for not forgetting about the little guys!!! Similar Products Used: Infinity, JBL, Polk Audio, Paradigm, Sony, Pioneer |

Strength:
Great home theater sound, smooth highs, good dynamic range.
Weakness:
Sensitivity rating I was a bit sceptical about purchasing these speakers, especially without being able to audition them first. Now, after they''ve broken in and opened up a little bit I can actually say - terrific sound! We live in a real world, and in a real world you get what you pay for. Fluance AV-HTB just might be one of those rare exceptions out of this rule. Overall built quality of these speakers is pretty good, but when you consider the price it''s not just good, it''s great. Finish is a bit odd looking, but it''s decor-friendly. I could not help myself to take a look inside one of the surround speakers. Inside is layered with foam, drivers have a good size magnets and a crossover has a respectable looking coil. No, drivers do not have cast baskets - we live in the real world, remember? Fit is very good indeed, after removing the screws the midbass driver did not want to come out, it was tightly fitted in it''s cutout - very nice. How do they sound? Very smooth, maybe a little on the warm side, but not too warm. At times they are a little "shy", but they do not hurt dynamic impact of music or movie soundtracks. Tweeters are never harsh, with just the right amount of brightness. Midbass driver sounds well integrated with a tweeter and crossover point is difficult to hear, even though it is audible on female vocals. They do lack in the "air" department, the soundstage is just not as high or wide as it could be, but it''s not ultra important for the home theater application. They are very well suited for movies and occasional music listening, but if you listen to more music than watch movies you might want to consider larger towers. Bass is not bad, but nothing to brag about - again, not all that critical for a home theater application, since the subwoofer takes care of the lows. I have them powered by Denon AVR-2802 and so far the experience has been great. Don''t be afraid to power these by a good receiver - you''ll be glad you did. Overall I am very satisfied with the way these speakers sound, and I would have no problem recommending these to anyone seeking good home theater sound on a tight budget. For $200 this set simply cannot be beaten. Similar Products Used: Various speakers from various brands. |

loud and clear. price!!!!!!!!!!!! i looked at a boston acustic system, which to me, sounded awsome. fluance does not reproduce the clear highs and deep base as well as the bostons or other high end speakers, but sound ten times better than any small cube type system and for $200, you can not go wrong with these speakers. i ordered on a friday and them @ my house by monday. the surround sound is great and fills the room with out a problem. (room size= 14X14 w 10 ft ceilings)
Weakness:
cheap looking vinyl like wood grained cover on the speaker cabinets. you can NOT return them if you do not like them, but to the average listener, you will not want to return this system. i set out to spend around $1500 for my home theater system. I know i was not going to be able to buy high quality upper end system. but i did not want to by junk either. i looked at the entry level boston tower speaker, center and surrounds. this system surpassed my needs and was in my budget. i was ready to buy it, when i decided to check ebay for a deal. i found fluance. i was very skeptical of buying a complete home theater system for only $200, especially since you can not return them. i was concerned i would get the box and would not play, sound like crap or be empty. but to my surprise. this system is great, for the money. i am a casual music listener and my wife and a avid movie buffs. this system reproduces movie sound awsome. i do not have a sub yet, but the bass is deep enough to enjoy the movie, however, i will add a sub. build quality is good. cabinets look cheap, because of cover, but are constructed well. speakers have rubber surround and are poly coated. seem to be tough. i have cranked the front towers and the music is distortion free and clear. Strength:
Crisp, clear, can handle high volume.
Weakness:
Cheap looking, but not cheap sounding(for the price). Have put together many home systems for cheap and these Fluance speakers really came through. Can not beat the price. All I did to complete the system was add a 12" sub, and the whole system sounds great. I would tell everyone that they are a great buy. Similar Products Used: JBL,Bose,Vega,Boston,Polk. |
