After purchasing the Energy Take 5 system (didn't buy the sub, I already had one), I recently recommended the Klipsch system to my father (who was putting together a HT system). I had read much about it, (including reviews on this site) and it sounded like it was THE new sub/sat value leader.
Well, after wiring the new equipment (Denon AVR 2700, Pioneer DVD, high quality audio and video cables and speaker wire all around) and turning it on, I was very disappointed. The Klipsch system just doesn't compare to the Energy system. The imaging and beauty of the Energy was really lacking in the Klipsch speakers. In fact, it really lacked warmth and sounded a bit "empty." One might think it is the Denon, but my Energys are hooked up to the same receiver and so musical! The Klipsch may be good for home theater (many reviews in different publications comment on their excellent dynamic range), but for music, they just don't cut it -- especially if you are used to good full-range speakers. I have reached the conclusion that many sub-sat systems really do cause one to sacrifice sound quality for aesthetics. They just don't compare to full range speakers (paired with a sub) for accurate and punchy mid-bass, as often times this is where the "sats" are supposed to be blending with the sub (and often don't). Even with the crossover point chosen just right, the Klipsch just doesn't sound musical compared to the Energys. There is a reason they are so popular -- they represent the least sonic compromise for a non-intrusive surround package. Go with the Energys.

Strength:

Excellent Theatrical Experience.

Weakness:

None

Basically I have three comments:

1. These speakers simply blow away much of the home theatre speaker kits around. They look AND sound good. I listened to a lot of different sets (Polk Audio, JBL, Bose) and if you are even considering Bose, then you need to audiotion these speakers first. The hifi store I purchased these bad boys from had Bose and Klipsch set up side by side which was Ideal for a side by side comparison. Quite simply put "The Bose speakers are crap!" You get much better performance out of Klipsch speakers and a MUCH BETTER VALUE!

2. These speakers are called Klipsch Quintet Micro Theatre Speakers. I do not see Stereo Speakers anywhere in the name. But I do see "THEATRE".....so my point is that all the reviews below pointing out the fact that these speakers are not the end all, be all for music are simply stating the obvious. You should rate these speakers on what they were designed for and not what you bought them for.

Pop a DVD in and enjoy a better than theatre experience. And who says you have to have a small apartment or room to enjoy these babies? If you have the right receiver then the Klipsch Speakers will knock you over. I just purchased a Sony STR-DB930 (Read the reviews folks! This unit is AWESOME!) and it almost seems the Klipsch Speakers are a match made in Heaven! 110 Watts of pure ecstacy. I opted not to buy a matching sub as I have two DJ tower speakers from my DJ days that I wanted to use. They are no name but they sure do thump and they add the right amount of bass in even the most demanding scenes from Saving Private Ryan or The Matrix.

3. And finally, A poster(you may leave the "t" out of that word if you wish)somewhere below, Bill Rich I believe, compares these speakers to a set of Radio Shack cubed speakers. All I can say is that he either was not truly LISTENING to these speakers or he bought them for music ALONE, either way it's idiotic to comapre them to RS speakers. I also made note he did not leave an e-mail address (another sure sign of a weak minded individual. If you're worried about flame mail, then get a Hotmail account!).

In short... These speakers really are a great value and are highly recommended.

Strength:

Excellent speakers for DVD enthusiast.

Weakness:

The mounts are a little touchy-feely.

I agree with the review below this one. These guys are amazing. I hate to admit it but I use to own the entire BOSE Acoustimass set. This past Thanksgiving a friend of mine told me that I must come by the store he works at and listen the Klipsch Quintet's.

I bought them on the spot with the KSW-12 Sub. Absolutely incredible dynamic range for such small speakers. I promptly replaced my BOSE speakers for the Klipsch. The sound field opened up BIG TIME.

BOTTOM LINE: Great Sound. Great Value.

Strength:

Priced to sell at Ubid, superb clarity

Weakness:

Not a full range speaker, persnickety stands

I am submitting this review because of the slightly different application I have for these speakers. I had a set of Bose 501s (old ones) and I wanted to augment the high end to get a bit more clarity. These speakers really worked. I perhaps have the best of two worlds, the superior imaging of the Bose with the clarity of Klipch.

To make the channel full range, each Quint is attached through a JBL amplified subwoofer. In this application, they have really improved the music quality for the system. I lucked out and the volume matched perfectly so no new preamp was needed but, if you try this, you may need to volume match. Both the Bose and the Quint/JBLs are being run on seperate channels of a HK 5800 (an excellent amp - see reviews elsewhere).

These are superb, clear speakers that handle high volumes remarkably well. Now cymbals sizzle, bells ring and I noticed many more nuances to the music. Note: these have horns... I love horns and always have. If you hate horns, these may be too brilliant for your tastes. Regardless, I really like these speakers - they are great when used within their limitations and they may be the ingredient for making an average system into a very good one for you also.

Overall 4 stars because I feel that everyone is giving fives as ratings (justifies them buying it?). Not all of these products reviewed are fives. This is an excellent product but only a 4.

Strength:

Excellent set for home theatre and music.

Weakness:

none

Got it for $600 with KSW10 at Ulimate Electronics. I was considering Energy Take 5 for the same price but bigger sub and cool mounting brackets made me choose Quintet. Plus I think they look better than Take5. Soundwise I don't see much of a difference. Both sets are very, very good. I am very pleased with Quintet. I have it coupled with Sony STRDB930 receiver and tripled(? :) with Sony DVD Player.

Strength:

Excelent quality of wound, clarity, and presence. They really fill the room with sound.

Weakness:

The stands don't hold the speakers up very well.

I love these speakers. I added a mid sized sub with them, and they sound great. I have used them for music and video, and they work great for both. I listened to other products and none gave the fullness of sound that these one's do.

different colors available - size - brackets included

We were looking to do a seperate system in our bedroom. we went with the recommendations of www.sounddistributors.com

set us up with the klipsch quintet in WHITE - denon avr-1801 - sony dvps360 dvd player. we already had digital cable ran into the room. a great system with a full sound. we added the ksw-12 powered subwoofer a month later and were done. this system was under $1500.00 - quintet was $350.00 by itself.

great selection - service - and prices at this web site - i would tell anyone looking at the quintet to get it. this is a great small size system with a full size sound!!!! you need the sub to finish it off - i think the ksw12 was alot fuller than the ksw-10.

Strength:

Price, efficiency, klipsch quality, solid imaging

Weakness:

Brackets are a bit clumsy...can be tweaked, however

I decided to begin upgrading to a HT system last month...while fairly sure of myself with purist audio equipment, I wasn't sure of what to expect or look into for HT use. I was so pleased when I got the Klipsch quintets...these little guys are perfect for rear channel speakers in HT. While I demand seamless, full sound from my front speakers for 2 channel stereo (I recently picked up a pair of klipsch rf-3 towers for music needs), the quintets perform wonderfully for the full effects in dvd/dts. The mid's are warm and clear (a little chalky on low-mids...but it's a tiny speaker; whadya expect?), the highs live up to the horn-loaded history Klipsch brings to the table. Match with a quality 12" sub...I'm not particularly fond of the Klipsch line of subwoofers and am still looking for the right complement to my system--currently standing at:

Nak Av-10 receiver (yummy...simply divine sound)
Nak MB 10 CD (just purchased online)
Budget toshiba DVD sd-2109 (so i'm not a movie buff yet, ok)
Klipsch RF-3 towers--nice, but mid's are brisk...need to EQ
Klipsch quintets (white stone mineral to appease the GF)
Klipsch Rc-3--wow! I love this center channel speaker...I've actually heard stage directions whispered across the set that went unnoticed before. It's massive (literally).

I've heard the entire 6 piece ensemble (4 quintets, center+ 10" sub) and its impressive for the going rate--really puts Bose, Polk, and Cambridge SW to shame...but if you like listening to music or demand higher precision from your center, pick up only 2 quintets and build better for the channels that really count.

Strength:

Great sound for the price, great for surround sound, decent for stereo

Weakness:

Don't use the built-in stands!

This is the first surround sound package I've bought, and I love it! The sound is so much clearer than those wimpy TV speakers. I just watched Independence Day over the weekend... wow! Movies and music both sound great, but I admit I will probably upgrade at some point (in a few years though, not soon) to a speaker system with floorstanding tower or planar front speakers to improve music performance. As for the stands, they do suck. But I'm using Furniture Works RB-1 speakers for the front stands and a pair of wall mount brackets for the rears, so it's not a problem for me. The built-in stands will remove to allow placement on these other stands. Bottom line, if you're looking for an entry-level package at a good price, you can't go wrong with these. $550 at Good Guys.

Package:
Klipsch Quintet
Klipsch KSW-10 10" subwoofer
Denon AVR-1601 DD/DTS receiver
