A friend who is almost a audiophile convinced me to listen to these speakers since he was amazed by himself. Having used my Jamo Compact speakers for almost 10 years I did expect new speakers to sound a better. I imediately bought the set since they could be returned within 30 days (I was still sceptical). When installed at home, I was blown away by the sound of this set. What a sound from these small, but heavy, speakers. I also followed his adviced to go for the PSW 350 upgrade for $100, and do not regret this especially since my living room has very high ceilings.

Strong Bass, very clean for music, life like movie surround
excellent for home theater

Weakness:

full musical range not there because of speaker size.

My favorite SUB/SAT speaker package by far. For the money, the best smaller room hometheater investment you can make.

WOW!
What a great set of speakers. When you hold them they’re quite heavy compared to other brands, a good sign of build quality. But when you hook these guys up (and I recommend using a good receiver such as an Onkyo) you’ll be blown away. The highs are crisp the mids are clear with lots of detail but not overly ‘bright’. Polk is a great company and I feel their quality in speakers rival that of Bose, no question. I’ve been researching speakers for months and I’m glad it’s over because there are a lot of choices out today. I’m very picky when it comes to buying anything over 100 bucks and I can assure you these speakers are worth the money, you’ll be extremely happy with your purchase. They sound great with both music and DVD’s, just be sure to add a powered subwoofer to complete the system. I’ve added the Polk PSW450, and it takes care of all the lower frequencies with ease. Very deep and tight bass. The whole system sounds great together, it’s important to buy surround sound (5.1) speakers that are all the same brand. And when you go with Polk you’ll understand why, they’re all balanced for each other. So if you’re looking to put a solid Home Theater system together, that really sounds and looks great, I recommend these speakers. If your hung up on the price, just tell yourself, “Hey, ya only live once!”

After having my Panasonic all in one package I was fairly happy watching movies on my 65" Mitsubishi.....then one day I got the erge to spend some money and up-grade. How luck I was to go back to American (where I got the TV) and stumble upon the Polk 6600 (with the free sub 350 when puchasing the sats). They blew me away. So I needed a good reciever to hook them up to....checked out the Denon AVR-2801 (exellent reciever)....then I thaught why not the Denon DVD-2800(awesome DVD player). Anyway...took them home, hooked everything up to my Misubishi and put in Galdiator with DTS. WOW!! The Polks rocked the house. Couldn't ever imagine upgrading. Then I happen across this website....after I get everything, so I looked at all the reviews on all my components and I must say I got lucky with my choices. Every thing has good reviews...but nothing like the raving over these 6600s. To close, I say tell all your friends and neighbors about these speakers....they will appreciate it.

Strength:

Clarity, range, style, price

Weakness:

They are a tad on the heavy side...but it's better than some cheap enclosure that rattles like crazy.

I was first turned on to Polk products back in 1993, when I was considering a pair of Bose 201s. My audiophile friend pointed me to the Polk S4 bookshelf speaker (no longer made), which was the same price as the Bose, but sounded 300% better. From then on, Bose was removed from my speaker vocabulary.

When the time came to get rid of the S4's for a home theatre system, Polk was the first (and only) stop. These 6600's are the BOMB! Sure, they are on the heavy side at 4 lbs a speaker, but at least they don't reverberate in some cheap cabinet. For $750, I ordered the 6600 system, which came with the CS175 center, and the PSW350 sub. My only complaint was how long it took to get the system (I wanted white speakers), which I guess stemmed from the popularity of Polk's "free subwoofer" promotion.

My wait was well worth it. CDs, DVDs, DirecTV - everything sounds phenomenal through the Polks. The sound is everything you'd ever want in a speaker that you can hold in your hand. Better yet, I can think of several larger speakers that don't match the clarity and spatialization of the Polks. The subwoofer set up is strange, and I used a god-awful amount of speaker wire to set it up, but the effort isn't wasted - the sub blends seamlessly with the satellites. Best of all, they're small enough fit tastefully into our decor.

My father-in-law has a pair of Bose AM-somethings, and just bought a Sony "home-theatre-in-a-box" system. The Polks blow both of them away in terms of sound (of course, the Sony system was something like $400 including a receiver, so I don't think they compete in the same league). If anyone is considering Bose, they owe themselves a long look & listen to the Polk RM6600. When they realize the superior sound that Polk offers for hundreds of dollars less than Bose, they can send me a check for half the difference of the money they'll save.

Strength:

great bang for the buck

Weakness:

lower mid range

These Polks have great imaging and are very spacious sounding for their size. I paired them with an existing PS1000 Paradigm sub and a Denon AVR 3802 and they sound great. The top end has a very crisp sound. I am hearing symbol shots I've never heard before. Their range is exellent although the lower mid range lacks just a bit, its really trivial all things considered. I had to set the crossover in my receiver from 80Hz to 120Hz and that seems to work pretty well. If you just remind yourself that these speakers are the size of a large soft drink there is no way you could be disapointed in them.

On a side note... the bracket size is very common, and if you have and alarm supply store in your area, just about all security cameras have the same size mounting bracket. They normally have several styles and you can get a quality mounting bracket for about a third of the price that you would pay for something out of a stereo shop.

I had been shopping for about a month. I went to several audio stores and listened to different systems in each of the stores. I almost went with the Bose AM-15. I'm very glad I did not. On my final listening run I got to spend some quality time with one of the sales guys late on a week night. We seperated each of the components out and listened to choice tracks from their demo CD. This allowed me to hear how each component performed seperately on the different system. The mains, base module, and surrounds. Everybody should do this. It is very telling. Polk was having a deal where you purhased the RM6600 and the Sub was free. Or some dealers gave you the trade in value of the PSW250 towards a PSW350. So I got the system for $650, and the PSW-350 only cost $100 for a total price of $750, or about half the cost of the Bose AM-15. I am very happy with the system. I was able to purchase the system, great quality hook-up wire and speaker mounts for well under the purchase price of most other systems. The sound quality is amazing. The PSW-350 is so clean and fills the room with amazing bass. The sound stage for the center speaker is suprisingly wide so you can sit about anywhere on the couch and still be in the "sweet spot". I highly recommend this system for anybody on a budget that doesn't want to sound like they are on a budget.

All around sound quality for music and movies, Great Highs, The size and structure.

I researched for about 2 yrs for the best home theater system for the $$. Most of my research was over the Internet comparing frequency response, ohms, crossover etc. but the best way to find a system that has what you are looking for is with your ears. I spent many hour visiting Circuit City, Best Buy and a local Audio/Video store in Charlotte listening to various systems. We all have different taste in what we prefer in a HT system . I wanted a system that could handle the Highs vs the Lows. I like the sound of Bose but had read so many bad reviews and did not like the set up, that I voided that avenue.

I then listened to the Polk 6600’s at Circuit City and was impressed with the performance. I researched most of the reviews on this site and read nothing but great things on this system. I then searched for the best price and found a package deal for $710 at Brandnamez.com. The 5-speaker set plus 350 Sub., I would rate the site as AVG. but it was worth the savings. I set it up with the Yamaha HTR-5450 and could not ask for anything more. I love the 5 channel stereo mode!

I knew I had the right system after playing the Matrix helicopter crash scene and it sounded as if my TV shattered when she hit the glass. Nice…

If you are going to buy a system I would avoid the temptation of buying a quick all in one package at Best Buy (for example) do your homework and pay a little more for a system you will not have to replace in 2 years because you now want something better. The Polk 6600 is the best I have seen so far!

Strength:

Teriffic value. Clarity and pristine sound with strong solid bass when teamed up with a Sony SAWM-40 subwoofer.

Weakness:

None.

Brought home the RM6600 ($550.00) and 2 Polk RT600i towers ($500.pair) w/Polk CS175i center channel speaker ($120.) and Polk RT10 bookshelf speakers ($80. pair)from Circuit City for comparsion purposes. The Polk RT600i towers are impressive but kinda booms a little when playing ZZTop and DVD movies. The Polk center channel tested was not strong enough to truly hear the dialogue and singing voices playing music. The RT10 bookshelf speakers are very impressive when considering the price paid for them ($80. pair). It makes for great surround rear speakers for any music or HT system. However, after rehooking and listening to both types of speaker systems to my Yamaha RXV-620, the Polk RM6600 beats out the other Polks. It is clear, provides clarity with great midrange and yet puts out good solid, thundering bass especially when teamed up with the Sony SAWM-40 subwoofer! This Sony woofer ($150) outperforms the Polk 250 and 350, big time. Look up the reviews on this Sony woofer and it woofs LOUD. It is hard to believe that these tiny sats can beat out a tower and I have a 24x15 great room and boy, the sounds just bounce all over the room with my pictures on the wall being crooked from the constant vibes. Drives my wife crazy having to realign the pictures all the time! Heh,heh.
Seriously speaking, the RM660 was a fantastic bargain as it compliments audio and HT extremely well. Im pleased and humbled with these solid quality, heavy and well engineered RM6600.

My system is: Toshiba 36' Digital HDTV
Sony 560 DVD, no problems yet, whew!
Yamaha RXV-620, kicks ass
Polk RM6600
Panasonic Hi-Fi VCR
Sony SAWM-40 subwoofer, kicks like a mule
