Price/Performance Build Quality Warranty I just ordered these from J & R and used them intensively over a 2 week period (J & R only has a 30 day return policy). I was skeptical at first on how a sub-$100 sub can be quite punchy judging from the reviews here. Im about a 20 minute walk from J & R and figured what the heck, I could always return it for a another. The sub was just so cheap and recieved numerous positive reviews that I couldnt pass it up plus I didnt need a monster, just something that would provide enough oomphf in movies and perform spectacular in music in my bedroom HT (15 x 10). I am very pleased and highly recommend the AR, although it is being used in a small room atm, it will have no problem handling a larger room but keep in mind this is still an 8". I was considering the Energy S8.2 but there were enough complaints about port noise that steered me away from it. Bottom line - price and performance ratio is outstanding. I have yet to recieve the Avia HT Guide I bought off ebay to test/calibrate my system, hopefully I can squeeze more juice out of this baby. Strong bass throught 20x12 room
Weakness:
none Awesome sub. I have a 20x12 room and it carries the bass thoroughly and intensely to every corner. Nice for music or movies. For $99.00 at J&R a heck of a price. Listened to JBL PB10, Sony WASM40 and Jensen. AR blew them away. Highly recommend. |

NICE,DEEP,CLEAN SOUNDING BASS 120 WATT AMP FIT AND FINISH
Weakness:
NONE THAT I CAN THINK OF What a great little subwoofer.I have this set up to my home theater system in a large 30'x24' basement, and this thing really pumps out nice deep, and tight sounding bass. For an 8" woofer this is truely amazing.Sounds more like 10" or 12".The amp in this unit is very quiet, and the auto on-off function works great.I have the crossover set to 80hz and the volume set at half way,and the bass is not boomy at all.Make sure you feed the sub with some good quality cables.Anybody looking for a good quality sub,and dosen't want a huge box, should check out this great little sub. They will simply be blown away, when they hear the amount of deep, tight, and clean sounding bass this AR sub can produce. For the price, this is an excellent BANG FOR THE BUCK. No for the size and price This is a nice Sub, BUT it will not break window or shake the house. I use it on my computer. For the $ i paid this sub is well worth it. But if you are expecting monster bass look elesewhere. This is a perfect sub for computer and people who live in apartments. None that I have discovered, oh slight hum when turned up loud during no signal to sub. Fine when turned down half way This subwoofer for its size and its cost is great for HT. I tried some larger units (Sony WM-40) and they rocked, but good lord who wants a small refrigertor in their room. (not my wife) So after reading reviews and doing some research I settled on this subwoofer. For HT you do need a woofer you can feel as well as hear and this one provides both. Looks good and is only 10.5 inches wide. Auto on off works well. I have not tried this sub for music but it may be just fine. It has two eight inch drivers one powered one driven one front mounted the other down firing (passive). My set up is modest (which was a goal). Sherwood entry level 5.1, Klispch Quintents for surronds and klispch center channel. I did research HT before I set up my system and read many of the reviews here, from what I gleaned and based on my experience the sub and the center channel is where to spend the money. If your an auidophile then of course this just wont do, but for many of us cost is imperative. Similar Products Used: Sony WM-40 (great for price if you have room), Polk and sony 8 inch sub, Old Boston passive woofer, which suprisingly is better for music than either sony and its over 13 yrs old. |

Warranty service from Recoton and/or authorized (???) repair agents! Get the SP 108 at Ubid in April 2002 due to the good rating on Audio Reviews. It sound great for less than three weeks, after the break in time, it really broke: make a poping sound without input. Brought it to Sabel Electronics in Houston in May 1st to get it repair by warranty and it 's still at the shop (now it is October). The shop blame on parts order from Recoton is not available. I have to buy the Onkyo for temporary uses. Who 's to blame ? Sabel , Recoton, or my luck? Similar Products Used: JBL, Onkyo |

Small, Integrates Well, Not Boomy, Tuneful, Doesnt call attention to its self
Weakness:
Slight hum from the amp transformer at idle, tends to sound best when set at low pass minimum (50 hz) I purchased this little guy on a lark from the Wiz (going out of business sale). I paid 54.00 for the floor model. This is a terrific value/performer. The bass is forceful, tuneful, and best of all not BOOMING! It blends incredibly well with my Monitor Audio's and provides excellent extension. I sold a 800.00 NHT sub due to my disatisfaction with it and its lack of refinement. The little AR works out heads and shoulder above the NHT for my uses (music only). Build quality seems fine and the driver amp are of good quality. Tight Bass Can shake a room with an 8 inch woofer!
Weakness:
At $89 are you kidding me? I had to get a new sub because my Infinity Servo wasnt shielded and was causing terrible interference with my TV. I really thought that sub kicked, I believe it was rated at 150 watts with a 10 inch woofer. This sub makes me laugh at the Infinity. The Infinity is so boomy compared to the AR. The AR's bass is really tight, and yet wall shaking at the same time. I have the crossover set at about 70 hz, with the volume setting at about 1/3 of the way up, and have achieved a nice blend with Paradigm Mini Monitors. In my moderate sized room, it can really shake the walls. I cant imagine a sub in the $300-400 that comes close. With the street price for this at just over $100, it is truly one of the top bargains in all of home theater. Similar Products Used: Infinity Servo Paradign PDR 8 |
