None so far!!

This was a great buy for $190.00 I got such a good deal due to Internet Price match by Sears. This sub can be found at dynadirect.com for $179.99 and Sears will match it. It sounds great, in a medium sized room, with all my action/adventure DVD's. Could not be happier. The AR is a down firing sub in a sturdy and attractive cabinet.
I had considered the Cerwin Vega LW-12 but it was too big for the area I wanted and with kids I could just imagine a ball being thrown through the front firing sub it has. Overall, I think the 112ps is a great sub for budget minded folks with a small to med. sized home theater room.

Strength:

Excellent base response. Looks, size, price.

Weakness:

For the money this sub can't be beat. I have it hooked to all phase tech speakers and center channel which are very high end comparatively speaking. I listened to some of the higher end pricey subs, but just couldn't justify spending the extra money. Try it, you'll be pleasantly surprised....

I bought 50.00 in monster cable (6 ft and a y splitter) and still no loud bass like everyone says.. I agree with the guy below in saying LOOK OUT FOR THIS ONE, save 150.00 more $$$ and get a KSW-12.. Bass you can feel is kinda lacking

For the price you probably won't find much that is quality like this one. 12" 120 watt that puts out pretty well for a little over 200 dollars, throw in a good company name and its a pretty sweet deal. Few complaints about the output, but these all could be from having to use a near field placement instead of corner loading the sub due to the room setup. The bass from the sub is only noticable in a very small portion of the room. The bass is loud and plenty powerful there, but there is just a lack of bass that you feel i think, I definitely agree with the previous reviews that state it is more like 30 hz or a bit higher rather than the 20 hz stated by AR for the low end. I do like the sub, and really wish I could successfully corner load it so i could really see what it has. It holds up good enough to the Velodyne to sell for about 1/2 the price. One of my worries was that it wouldnt be tight enough for my taste, but its pretty decent. During the Lobby scene from The Matrix, it could be tighter but all in all it isnt bad. (My Boston Acoustics 'sub' for my pc (micromedia set) is tigher, but it only goes to 50hz flat, i suppose a 5.25 woofer is going to be pretty tight until it bottoms out :) The sub adds nicely to the bottom end of my current speakers which go down to around 50ish. ill give it 4 for its potential. Connected with a 25' AR sub cable into the LEFT input jack ( can be done instead of using Y cable according to AR).

Strength:

Tonal quality, low range, sound output

Weakness:

none

The S112PS is an outstanding value for the money. The tonal quality is sweet, even for delicate orchestral movements, and the output is very powerful for home theatre use. Even with the volume control set to 2/3, my family room (aprox. 18x20 ft.) QUAKES when playing videos with strong low freq. output.

I'm using the subwoofer with a pair of Polk Audio RT600 floor speakers, and the S112PS complements these nicely. The speakers are connected to a Pioneer VSX-D309 receiver.

I initially connected the S112PS to my receiver using inexpensive cables, but found the sound quality somewhat lacking. I switched to Monster Cable's subwoofer cables, and the quality increased dramatically.

This is my first powered subwoofer, but I learned from reading numerous AudioReview.com postings that for any subwoofer, you must take time to carefully adjust crossover frequency and volume to suit your taste. I spent quite a bit of time doing this, and was nicely rewarded for the effort. My RT600s are rated down to 30 Hz. My preference was to not crossover from the RT600s to the S112PS, but to instead set the sub to kick in and augment the RT600s at around 150 Hz.

The bottom line is that the S112PS is an OUTSTANDING sub, with fantastic sound QUALITY and OUTPUT at a BARGAIN PRICE. If you buy this or any powered sub, invest in high quality cables and take time to carefully adjust crossover freq. and volume.

Strength:

Weakness:

I couldn't believe how loose the bass sounded...it muddied my entire soundstage.

Overall, the sub is a piece of junk. The S112PS did play very loud, however, it made the quality of my entire system sound terrible when playing music. There was a mild improvement in my home theater sound while using the sub, but it really did just make my music sound poor. The controls were easy to use on the amp, but for somereason it sounds better when the power is in the OFF position. This sub is going back to Bernies, and I am going to spend the extra 200 on the Paradigm, and get some clean bass. You pay for what you get.

3 stars for the price, 1 star for the sound...

Weakness:

crossover's lowest point is 80hz

great priced subwoofer it has verry good build quality with a nice rear mounted amp.
I'm thinking of taking out the woofer and puting in a adire Audio Shiva sub.
The bass is just great but it won't do 20hz that it says it does but it will do 25 or 28hz.

Strength:

Great sound for the price.

Weakness:

None that I've encountered. The instruction manual is poor.

Great sub for the money. Thanks to Steve for his 10/4/00 review.I took article to my local Sears and they did a price match. As a side note I highly recommend Sears for their prices. As an example I was able to buy my Sony KP53s75 big screen for less than $1200 !! They go for $1899 at Best Buy and Circuit City locally.Mine is brand new plus I got 1 year free financing.
The sub has been a nice addition to my Jamo fronts and rears.I highly recommend it

Strength:

Relatively small compared to BIC Venturi 1200R, and a few others. Awesome controls and SUPER BASS. A.R. knows what they are doing. Very solid construction

Weakness:

Not a question

I have been shopping for a sub for a few months. I just bought a set of Infinity RS-8's to replace my fronts, but I had a feeling the 8" 100watt subs in each tower would not produce the bass that Dolby Digital is encoded for (DEEP). So I went to Sears and did the price match. Unreal Bass! I cannot rave about this sub enough. It shakes everything in the apartment that is not tied down. I actually have had to go to Walmart to re-enforce my front door because it shakes and vibrates, and that is just at 40% volume level. Independence Day is unreal bass. I cannot imagine needing more power (120 watts RMS on this model) unless I lived in a barn. I went to a local sound shop and listened to the BIC Venturi 1200R. First let me say I have respect for BIC, I really like the company, but there sub is huge and cannot produce anywhere near the bass of this sub. It is a mellower bass. As of Cerwin Vega, I would put them on par with the AR. Acoustic Research has rumble!! Acoustic Research gets 5 stars from me!
