Addendum, see below...

Weakness:

Ditto

Others seem to have no problem with multiple posts to this forum so I shall add to the review I posted earlier...
The "mistake" AR/Infinity engineers made with this wonderful design was to allow a broader range of SW amplifier gains, phase and crosssover frequency adjustments.
Morons can't figure it out. To some this is beneficial..to others confusing and vexing.

Maybe it's "no count" to some, but it's a wonderul SW to others.

The mistype in my earlier posting should read...But this puppie..

Strength:

Powerful strong bass, fills the whole room with nice deep low-frequency with good placing!, audio on/off, well built box, looks great with surrounding equipment, price.

Weakness:

Not as fluid as I would like(it could be equipment), Not to clean at higher volumes.

This is a great HT sub, and for the price its better than most I have reviewed. It took me some time to find the settings and placement that I would be happy with. Now that I have broken it in, I am totally happy with its performance and sound, for the price I was expecting something not half as good as it actually is. I purchased it on dynadirect.com for $200.14, tax included.
It is a heavy and quite large piece of HT equipment, It is perfect for Home Theater, but its kind of shy with music, but that works for me.
This sub rocks, I recommend it.

Strength:

Lots of bass, controls that are easy to reach from the front, decent looks.

Weakness:

None thus far.

So far, so good. I have noticed a few negative reviews, but HEY, for the price, don't complain. I could've spent $400 or more on a Klipsch, Velodyne, or whatever, but I didn't. I spent $170 with shipping and everything from Ubid, and for that price, it sounds pretty damn good. I have a Sony STR-DE875 AV Receiver that it hooks up to, and my DVDs sound awesome. I just bought Jurassic Park III, and that DVD really takes advantage of the technologies out there. It even utilizes the 6.1 decoding that my receiver offers. The bass is tremendous in that movie. Check it out. Also, movies like Twister and Independence Day sound great, too.
I have the sub in a corner with the crossover at about 100Hz and the output set at around half. The receiver has a subwoofer output adjuster as well for +/- 6 db. There is plenty of bang for the buck with this sub. In fact, I may add another as my receiver has 2 sub outputs! Miy wife might kill me.
Get one and enjoy it. There are better ones out there, but not at this price.

Strength:

Build quality, controls, deep base

Weakness:

A bit large, can be boomy if not adjusted correctly

I am generally pretty happy with this sub especially considering the price ($169 plus shipping ). I have been using two small satellite speakers ( RA Labs Micro-monitors ) for several years and didnt realize just how much of the music I was missing. It can be a bit boomy if not adjusted carefully.

I just recommended my friend to buy the Klipsch KSW-12 and I asked him to bring over my house for side by side comparision with my AR112. Well, the KSW-12 look nice, but a little bit lighter, I am also concerned about the heatsink that is not on the KSW-12 but noone complains about the heat or blowed up yet. Maybe the AR has the heatsink because of its poorly design.
- I played a some music CDs and U571 and I really like the KSW-12. Honestly, the AR112 is not so bad like 3 compared to 9 over scale of 10. I would rate AR120 is 5/10 and KSW-12 is 7/10. KSW-12 produces tight and louder bass and that's what I want. If I want to turn my Sub to match the loudness of the KSW-12, the bass becomes muddy. I want to be able to enjoy the bass in music and movie. I believe most of the Subs do theirs job in movie but put them in the music, that's the different between them. Someones claimed, the sub made their neighbors complained. Well, the loudness alone is not what to rate the sub. Most of the Subs advertised to response to below 30Mhz, all speakers'( low end as well as high end) frequency response are between 40-20Mhz but why you choose Infinity, Klipsch but not JBL, KLH at Costco. The reason I am so disappointed about the AR112 because I am not comparing the $500 KSW-12 but it's just below $300 and the low pass crossover is at 40Mhz compared to 80Mhz for the AR.
Sorry if you don't like my posting. I just don't want you to get disappointed like me because AR-120 is not deserved 4.0/5.0 at all.

Strength:

Size, Design, Bottom Firing, nicely augments my Polk RT600i's.

Weakness:

Gets a little boomy when the amp is too high.

I would like to start by thanking everyone who suggested that I price match @ Sears. I got this speaker out the door for 238.00, whereas some places are selling it for $389.00 plus tax. And aside from being cosmetically pleasing, it has all of the controls you would expect in a $500+ subwoofer; such as 24K gold plated 5-way binding post, LFE input AND Output, Crossover, Level Control, etc.

I was a little skeptical about getting a speaker with a paper cone but this box REALLY performs. I auditioned the Klipsch, Polk, Velodyne, and Infinity BU series and decided that none of the above really met my needs (at least not in the store environment). So with my mind set on either the HSU Research VTF-2 or the NEW Infinity sub, I saw this box in the Crutchfield catalog and the AR name caught my attention. I listened to it at Sears, read the reviews and WOW!!!! I - AM - IMPRESSED!

It took a little while to get it set up, broken in, and crossed over correctly but now I am in heaven when I listen to music or watch a movie. The crossover is a little high for some systems (220hz) but I think that it because there are so many tiny Home Theater in a Box Setups. Fortunately, my Polk fronts go down to 40hz and I use the sub to add depth to the overall sound and free up the mains to what they were intended (see the reviews), the crossover is set to about 150hz.

A couple things that helped me get it set up properly are:

1.) The phase reversal switch. (I have it placed behind the listening position).

2.)A CD called "Quad Maximus" by Bass Mechanic, contains low frequencies test signals in 10 second / 5 cycle intervals from 10hz - 100hz as well as pink noise for blending the mains with the sub. I found that this sub can QUAKE down to 25hz! And remains audible @ 18hz! Pretty impressive for under $600.00!

NOTE: Before deciding the sub is a "Piece of Crap" as some reviewers put it, remember to TAKE THE TIME TO GET IT SET UP PROPERLY!!! It really makes a difference. You can't just plug it in and expect it to go!

Another note, the best way to set it up is to place it on the sofa, or whatever your listening position is and crawl around on the floor looking for the "sweetest, cleanest" bass spot. That's where the sub should be placed.

Thanks again to all of the reviewers that helped me make a great decision and save $300 dollars on my system! I strongly recommed this box to anyone who can't afford a $600.00 sub.

Nice output, clean apperance, simple controls, clean output

Weakness:

Ok, lets make this simple. This is a fine sub, easy to adjust with a clean deep sound. Considering the price and quality, it has been great. Running along with Accoustic Research Hi Res Speakers, have been quite pleased. Upon checking with suppliers, all recommended the ARS112PS over the higher end Hi. Res. bass boosted models - not sure why, but have been very happy with decision to buy this model But will convey, that I don't want big ass heavy bass. So, although this unit performs so well, others may want a further Carver boosted model.

Strength:

Strong powerful bass coming from the 12 inch woofer. Good price, I got mine for $140 from ABC Warhouse, for that price you can't beat this sub.

Weakness:

Could have used a little more powerful amp. The 125 watts is nice, but 150 would have filled out this sub a little better.

For a cheap sub that will fill the room with some powerful bass on your movies, you can't beat this. For music t is good, could have been a little tighter. For a price like this you will not find a better sub.
