Strength:
excellent speaker for the price- got mine at sears for 275.
Weakness:
dont turn up that power on the self powered amplifiers it get distorted- just alittle and let your receiver do the rest excellent power speaker for this price make sure you have a good receiver that doesn't push distortion and this will work perfectly Similar Products Used: much better than a JBL 12" JUST IN MY OPINION |

Strength:
sweet sound, quality construction and nice looks.
Weakness:
Foam edging instead of polyurothane on woofer, bulky. I bought this woofer at sears on markdown a few weeks ago and love it. It was marked $150 but since it was a floor model I recieved another 10% off. I have no complaints about its sound or proformance. I use this sub primarily for home theater use and it sounds awesome, and i only have the power setting set at half!. I watched Glatiator with this baby and I was blown away. I have it hooked up to a JVC 7010vbk reciever with Mission floor speakers and JBL center and surrounds. Even at full price which when I went to Sears I was willing to pay, it is a great deal. Buy the way a few days ago I saw that the web site www.Accessories4less.com sells this woofer for $189.00 an dthe 10" for $149! Similar Products Used: JBL PB10 |

Strength:
Best Boom For The Buck, Baby! The Acoustic Research brand name and reputation for quality sound. BIG, Bold, Clean, 3D-like Bass. Broadens the depth of the bass channel very well. Hands Down ... this is one sweet mutha-thumper! Even Helen Keller would have given this thumper a Big Thumbs-Up!
Weakness:
Had to resort to a cheap-@ss RCA "Y" splitter for the single RCA Sub-out line that I chose to run over to 'Ole Thumper'. Confusion over the low-end range Hz. Even though it's often listed as being 30Hz on the low end, it will reach as low as 23Hz (from what I can tell) and easily/happily works in the 27Hz range too. I have hardwood floors, so it quickly became a no-brainer to go with a down/floor-firing style thumper. I was actually zeroing in on the Jensen JS1000 10" subwoof -- until I saw the AR S112PS sitting there ... just waiting for me to give it a listen. Sears had both hooked up and within near proximity to each other, so it was easy to tell [hear] the difference. As of July 1st, Sears marked down all their discontinued items (not just floor models, but new-in-the-box inventory mind you). The regular price of the AR S112PS had been $249, but then dropped from the Sears sale price of $199 to $149 ... over night, literally! And the Jensen initially weighed in at $199 but also was earmarked for discount at just $99 on the same day. ("Come HEAR the softer side of Sears.") Strength:
None
Weakness:
No weaknesses except the lies on the specs and the fact that it sounds like junk The ranking for this has creeped up to 4.1 and I just can't stand it. I bought it, and was astonished at how bad it was. When I got rid of it I could sleep peacefully again - I felt like such a sucker with this thing in my living room. Compare to any competent sub out there (Klipch, Velo, HSU, etc...) and you will see for yourself. Ignorance is bliss I guess. You really gotta try a real sub. Strength:
Strong cabinet,quality built
Weakness:
Low-pass setting of 80 hz is unacceptable I had this woofer for many weeks before parting with it.What it does have going for it is that is is a quality built sub with a good frequency response, and for many the 80 hz setting would be low enough on the low pass. For me,i prefer to have a low-pass of 40 or 50 on a sub for i only wish to hear bass from 50hz on down. The 80hz setting makes this sub to directional. If only AR would of provided a LFE direct input that by-passed the crossover, this sub would of been a keeper. Oh well... |

Strength:
Tight clean bass, good responce 20-220Hz +/-3dB, plenty of bass to fill any sized room. verry heavy 50Lbs, 3"voice coil verry large magnet maby 7 pounds, good build quality.
Weakness:
none I've been looking for a sub for around 6 months and when i read the reviews about the sony sa-wm40 i bought it at sears for $350 when i got home and hooked it up and placed it in the corner and poped in U-571 on dvd and took it to the part with the depth charges and the sub could not produce low frequency effects that dolby digital provide. Similar Products Used: Tested Sony SA-WM40, Klipsch KSW-10, Polk Audio PSW-350, JBL-PB-12, none of these sub's came close to the acoustic research. |
