Strength:

stylish, good for the money I paid

Weakness:

body rattles, does not handle loudness well, erratic tumbling once in a while (?wierd?)

This sub is ok for it's worth, nothing spectacular. gives some punch to a small room provided u can keep it under a wooden table or something to dampen it's internal rattling.
It's total electronic power consumption is 55W, so how could the amp ever be 120W. Aiwa has a tendency to over-rate all their products, be careful with this.

If you're looking for a fine sub, or multimedia speaker that's very reasonable i strongly recommend you to go for Altec Lansing's ACS 48 power cube. It is simply awesome for it's price. I paid $70 for it, and it beats this aiwa overall with sound quality.

SUMMARY : This sub is ok for $80.

Strength:

Price. Pretty good sound for the price.

Weakness:

Quality.

There is a chirping sound that comes from the sub when it playes at a higher volume. Its not to noticable when your farter away from it but can be heard easily when your next to it.
I wasn't expecting too much from it but is pretty good for the price.
If you want a good sub, get something else. If you want an acceptable sub, get this one.

Weakness:

Design flaw

To be honest, this isn't a bad sub. Especially for the price. But if you are really into home cinema, i don't recomend this product. The reason is it's design flaw. Unfortunately, the makers of the sub did not make a large enough air port on the front so when a loud bass hit comes the air can't escape and re-enter fast enough and you get this rattleing sound. One could easily fix this but it is a flaw none the less. Despite that problem, it isn't to bad for someone who has a small bookshelf or mini-hifi system. I have a PhilipsMagnavox 3 disk 4 speaker system that i hooked the sub to. Philips makes nice compact speakers for their size but I just didn't get the bass I was looking for. This sub gives me what I'm looking for but isn't meant for loud sounds. It does have very low distortion but dosn't have very good bass below 40hz. The rear mounted controls are hard to reach, but I don't use them that often. The auto-on/off is nice because I don't have to get up to turn it on as it comes on and off with my stereo by remote control. On the plus side, it has a nice look to it and my parents still do complain about various items around the house shaking while I use it. So overall, I give it four stars for effort but only three and a half for preformance. Price, however, five stars. For my little system, nice sound and for my evel smaller wallet, excellent price. Definitly worth it.

Strength:

A very good sub for the money.

Weakness:

Can't use in large rooms, only works good in small to mid size rooms.Wish it was a 10 instead of a 8.

I was shocked to see so many people giveing this sub such bad reviews. I mean u can't ask much for around $150. But i will tell you the facts about the sub. It sounds good for only haveing a single 8 inch driver. But really shocked me was the fact it makes more and better bass then some RCA and sony 10's that have more power to them. Also this sub can go really for being an 8. Like i said the RCA's and Sony's could not even come close to matching its frequency respose and they were 10's. What really shocked me was when I went to my friend's house and he has Technics 15's and they could only go 3hz lower than that little 8. Also the people who slam this sub for only consuming 55 watts do not really know how that amp works. I mean i have seen amps take 20 watts and turn it into 200 watts. So the power consumption does not really matter for how much power it can put out. Also it is against the law for a company to put out false data on its products. So why would AIWA take a chance on been given huge fines for just lieing about the output power of their subs. Another thing I see people complain about is how the sub cannot take high volume levels
well their is most of the time their a simple solution. Make sure the volume level on the back of the sub is sounds good with your system. Don't set the sub to 10 or anything like that cause then you just will be setting it way too high and it will just destroy the sub. That for any sub too not just Aiwa even a high dollar sub will be destroyed. For example I only run mine around a 21/2 to a 31/2. The one thing you must rember is that an 8 will not fill a large room so make sure is not a large room, this is a great sub for a place like a bedroom. That is the one and only thing I don't like about the sub, I wish AIWA had put a 10inch driver instead of a 8inch that would make a big difference. But AIWA is known for putting great sound in small packages.
I am going give this a 5 and a 5.The reason I am giveing it such a high review because I see this getting it's butt kicked and really I don't why people are giveing it such bad reviews.
Well thinks for reading my review I hope it help you in some way.

Great Bass. Stylish look. Easy to use.

Weakness:

Great Product. In reading all of the other reviews i have noticed people complaining about the rattle. I have also noticed this. At first i was disapointed. Then using my wit, i discovered the ratlling can be stopped. All i had to do is face the sub toward the wall, it added alot of resination, and completely stopped the rattling. So if yours rattles, face it toward the wall not right at you, you will be satisfied by the outcome.

Great product for the $.

Strength:

Can go very loud in the 40 ro 50Hz range. Can rattle alot

Weakness:

Very little punch. Distortion, controls

Ok. I will tell you the truth from when I tested this subwoofer. First I went to circuit city and tested the sub and was HIGHLY dissapointed. The speaker bottomed out at the lowest volumes and could not play loud at all. The ONLY SOUND you heard was port noises!!! I also have Altec lansing asc48 and they beat the speaker out.

But I thought those were individual defects because I went to this website and I noticed there was some bad reviews. So I took a risk and bought a new sub.(college budget) ;)

AMAZINGLY this one was so much better. It can play at high volumes with nowhere as much distortion as at circuit city. One problem I had that was very bad was port noises.(But as I said before, nowhere close as bad as it was at Circuit City). At the lowest volumes you can hear a little hiss. At higher, the hiss would also be louder, but the bass would usually drown it out. The only way to get rid of the distortion was to put it in a corner(The hiss is too obvious when it is in the open). And the controls are also crap. You cannot adjust the crossover past 90 Hz without major distortion and you also can't adjust the volume over 12:00 without the same thing. I ran tests on the sub and it couldn't handle anything below 30hz. But did well in the 50H to 60Hz range.

Due to the fact that you cannot depend on getting a quality sub from Aiwa, I give them a 1 out of 5 stars.(If there wasn't so many bad reviews I would've give it a 4, But Aiwa just couldn't send us all good subwoofers)

But if you are lucky like me I will give it a 3.

And with an average of those 2 ratings I will give it 2 stars out of 5

Quality...Automatic 1!!!!

Order one, You never know, You might get a good one!!!

Strength:

Great sound and Features.

Weakness:

Terrible quality.

Stay away from this one. I got my money back just in time before the 90 day warranty ran out. There's a lot of reconditioned models like this, now I know why. Made in China like Coby, GPX and all the low quality stuff.
