Says 120 watts consumption, manual specs not detailed, but likely less than 100 watts rms. Peak power close to 200 watts. Two corners slightly dented so cosmetic loss, but fine for outside on the deck with small satellites under a teac mcd90 and clip+ mp3 player.

I bought Cambridge Soundworks BassCube 8 sub today for 15.00 at Good Will and hooked it up to my Yamaha YSP-800 which i had bought at another second hand store for 40.00 without the remote and mic, but using a Logitech 520 remote that handles all the options and used my Sony mic to test and calibrate the system, the sub works great for my room, i am more than happy, it rocks...

I bought my Cambridge Soundworks BassCube 8S locally on Craigslist for $40. It didn't look (or act) as though it had seen much use. In other words, it was just short of immaculate. I'm using as the computers audio in my home office. I have a pair of Optimus Pro X55 [Radio Shack] for "satellite" duty. My amp is an old (and pretty tired _ and soon to be replaced) Pioneer AV receiver that has a subwoofer out. I just wanted a subwoofer that would do the job and wasn't expecting much more. As it turns out, the BassCube 8s a really good performer _ better than I expected. It along with the aforementioned satellites and receiver deliver much better sound than any computer speakers that I tried. It's true that this subwoofer has its limits and is no audiophile's dream. But it serves my needs better than I expected.

Size. Price.

Gets out of control at mid to high volume/power levels thus stands out too much.

This basscube 8 inch sub was part of the movieworks package at Cambridge Soundworks. Initially I was surprised at the loudness and power of this little sub but I must admit to not having owned a separate sub prior to this one since the bose acoustimass bass box does not really qualify. I did compare the two and the Basscube could definitely put out more bass and keep up at higher volumes. The problem is not the power nor the frquency response but design as I found it to be very boomy and out of control at times. The lack of a phase inverter also did not help so I decided to upgrade to the 10 inch which is definitely tighter and thus does not stand out in combination with the MC300 satellites. For the price its OK and will be loud during explosions etc. but if you want good sound reproduction during music playback I dont recommend it.

Price, sound is acceptable

Output isnt huge, gets muddy on occasion.

The best word to describe this subwoofer is adequate. For the low price you cannot expect incredible results. It does not have huge output, but it is decent. It can get a little muddy, but it is a lot better than what I have heard from some subs.

Here's my input on this little titan of a sub. I needed a sub to complement my wharfedale diamond 7.1 in my dorm especially since there is someone on my floor who blasts nonstop rap on a rather decent multimedia system. I have long appreciated CSW for their fine products and great prices. The basscube 8s is no exception. No...its not gonna match up to velodyne or some other high priced sub. But for the price it does its job with flair. it hits hard and low and to my surprise, was quite musical. It is fast and can be tight which is something i was worried about considering it is ported. For the price you can't go wrong. And for you naysayers out there, please keep it real. Buy the product first and stop bashing for the sake of bashing. It is very immature and inconsiderate.

Size, value, sound!

Needs some help from another source.

I purchased the 8S as part of a full surround set from CSW (MovieWorks 108). Customer service suggested adding the Basscube 6 to my order (about $100 additional) for better music listening. Although I was wary of an upgrade even before trying the speakers, I was assured I could return anything I didn't like. Now installed and thoroughly tested (and enjoyed) the 8S has provided some punch for my small to average size room and the Basscube 6 seamlessly fills the gaps for midrange. Overall, I've been very impressed with the new sound from my system. Based on the reviews I've seen on this site which point out that the 8S has a limited range, this solution appears to work well - and still at a reasonable price.

The BassCube 8S is a pretty good little sub. Its obviously no match for the higher end stuff out there but for those of us who have this little thing called a budget it does the job well. I personally keep it at 3 and combined with a pair of model sixes it provides more than enough bass for my tastes/apartment living.

lots of output, but a bassoon sounds like a double bass, like an organ pedal note, and so on. Poor control of transients.

Having never been disappointed by Cambridge Soundworks products, I looked forward to receiving the Base Cube 8S. I put it back in the box for return an hour later. As I picked it up, I felt the rolled suspension edge--no protective grill! The paper(paper in this day and age?)speaker fires down to the floor about two inches away--the bare minimum in anyone's speaker instructions, and probably not enough distance. As others have noted, the speaker connections are flimsy. The 8S is not musical--it might be fine for the mindless rumbles of some movie tracks, but it does not deliver well defined musical sound. If gain is cut back to 2 or 3, it is passable, but the carry-over of transients is still not well checked. Above that setting, the 8S begins to sound like the sonic mess that emerges from a teen's automobile equipped with a sub-sub woofer.

Not exactly 'hi-fi' material. Bass is not well defined and can sound a bit boomy. (Be seriously for its price... this more of a limitation than a weakness.)

Let me just cut to the chase. The CSW Basscube 8S is a great product when you factor in the low price tag. I repeat, low price tag; I bought my 8S from CSW on Ebay at less than 1/2 the regular price. As long as you keep the price in mind, the 8S is a superb subwoofer. It is capable of filling up a small/medium size room an amount of bass that belies its diminutive size. Call it the David of subwoofers if you like. Nevertheless, in absolute terms the 8S has a few flaws. Its bass is often boomy and lacks definition. Instruments gets muddle up and it is difficult to distinguish a bass note that originates from a bass guitar and a pipe organ. Understand that I'm not berating the 8S. For its price, it is definately in a league of its own. However, because of its flaws - again, I'm measuring this in aboslute terms - the 8S falls short of being truly 'hi-fi' material. But, for $100... I'm not complaining. Bottom line: 5 Stars for value. 3 Stars for pure performance. (CSW auctions off refurbished goods on Ebay. The reserve price for the 8S is around $94. All items are backed by CSW's full warranty. A word of advice: be patient in bidding for the 8S. CSW puts up more 8S for auction after the listed ones gets sold. So, if there's too much competing bidders pushing up the price, just sit tight and wait for the next round. Now the cat is out of the bag... i think the executives at CSW wants my head.)
