Today (2/24/99) I finally found the missing link that was keeping my system from totally kicking ass. For three years, I had thought that my Infinity SM155's were producing subwoofer quality bass. Boy was I wrong! Over the past couple of weeks, I had auditioned several powered subs in my home. Among them were an Infinity BU2, a Polk Audio PSW 150, and a Cerwin Vega LW-12. Quite frankly, they all sucked mightily. The Infinity had no deep bass whatsoever. The Polk sounded like a bowl of Rice Krispies (snap, crackle, pop). And the Cerwin Vega well, outsucked them all. I had just about given up on powered subs until I reluctantly purchased the Definitive PF !5 at a closeout price of $550. All I can say is OH MY GOD!!!!!!My system has never, ever sounded better. Not only does the bass literally shake the floor and the walls around me, but the midrange and treble reveal sounds I had never heard before! And this is on cds that I've listened to dozens and dozens of times. |

"AWESOME DEEP BASS"
Weakness:
NONE I read some of the reviews of the Definitive Technology Powerfied Subwoofer PF15TL. Gentleman I can tell you from experience, that this is the best subwoofer that money can buy. I know you have heard that Velodyne makes the best subwoofers in the world. Well take this information for your records. Definitive Technology Subwoofers have won FIVE (5) Grand Prix awards for best subwoofer of the year. Now let me ask you how many awards has Velodyne or Paradigm have one within the last five (5) years.Velodyne are some of the most expensive subwoofers around, but they do not in my listnening to them sound as good as the Definitive Technology Subwoofers. I myself have both the PF18TL and the PF15TL on my Dolby Digital/DTS Surround Theatre System. The sound is awesome. I played the DVD movie Daving Pvt Ryan, I had to turn the volume down on the LFE (Bass Control) because the deep, deep bass was so awesome. Gentleman I tell you have a awesome powered subwoofer on your hands. I rate and give it five stars: Similar Products Used: VELODYNE & PARADIGM |

Strength:
Great bass
Weakness:
None that I have seen A fantastic sub. It produces some great deep bass. I recommend it. It's worth the money and if you plan on using it mainly for h/t, you'll be VERY happy. It make explosions and other bass heavy scenes sound amazing. |

Strength:
low frequency response
Weakness:
none so far I have had this sub for 2 weeks. I did a lot of research before buying this sub. I listened to a couple Velodyne's but was not impressed at all. In fact it almost changed my mind about even buying a sub. I then went to listen to a Paradigm PW2200. I read all the great reviews and was ready to walk out with one if it impressed me. The paradigm did have a good sound, but didn't have the punch I was looking for. I listen to rock, heavy metal, alternative and a lot of Grateful Dead. I wanted a sub that made my music sound like it does when I see it live at a concert or in a local bar. This doesn't mean I want BOOM, BOOM, BOOM. I just wanted something that I could feel a little more. Similar Products Used: listened to Paradigm PW2200 and Velodyne |

Picked this one up after getting burned on a Velodyne HGS-12 that shot blue sparks when I tried to plug it in and made a disjointed, rattling noise when "playing." After reading other HGS complaints on this site, I went with the Def Tech 15TL. |

I recently purchased the PF15Tl powered subwoofer. In my opinion, this is best subwoofer buys on the market for under $1k. I also looked and the HG-1 from Velodyne (list for $1,500) which looks great and sounds really good, but not good enough over the PF15TL to justify the price difference. Also, the PF15TL is powerful, versitaly, lots of controls and inputs and outputs. Its is very acccurate on music and never sounds boomy. I could not be happier with my Defin Sub!! |

I have just had the chance to listen to a Power Field 15, notice that there is no TL after the 15, and was blown away by the performance and the cost. I absolutely love a subwoofer that can reach below 20 hz and cost 700 dollars while doing this. However, I am curious as to how the Power Field 15TL sounds. I know it has 325 watts RMS vs 200 watts RMS and is supposedly tuned different via transmission line and was curious as to how this affects the performance. If any other subwoofers that can achieve this kind of subteranian performance can be had for 700 or less let me know. Also, does anyone know how Velodyne's CT150 compares to this definitive sub. This rating is based on the PF15 not the PF15TL. |

Strength:
Lot's 'o' Bass, fairly good with just music. Outstanding with movie soundtracks.
Weakness:
Maybe a stronger cabinet, a bypass switch for the level control. I use this Sub with a Sony TA-E9000ES Pre-amp. Since the Sony has an adjustable Sub out, I wanted the sub to have a defeatable level control. I think it does really well with movies. It does pretty well for music only. For the price, Me likes! Try it if you haven't heard it!! Similar Products Used: Speakers with incredible low bass. M&K sub's, and all those other weenie subs that are only 40-80Hz bass augmenters, and not real Subs. |

Strength:
Deep, tight bass; makes you want to re-listen to all of your movies
Weakness:
Wish it had the jewel black caps like the 1500; but oh well In my opinion, this is THE best subwoofer under $1000. It blows away my old "starter-set" Yamaha sub. I hear notes in movies that I never knew existed. Fantasia 2000's Pines of Rome & Rhapsody in Blue are absolutely awesome with this sub addition. The Sunfire sub seemed a little muddy to me, but this sub was almost musical in a way. When I auditioned it, I listened to the Def Tech Pro-Sub 12" first, and was impressed. But when the 15TL+ was hooked up, and Neo walked through the revolving doors into the lobby, I was sold after one note. I can't say enough good things about it.
