Strength:

Powerful bass! Shake windows and loose objects at only 1/4 volume. Compatible with movies and most types of music. Crossover and phase control at finger tips.

Weakness:

Slight hum, but you really have to be trying hard to hear it from a distance.

I got my sub online for $143. Unfortunately it was slightly damaged during shipping, so sent back for replacement. I do enjoy this sub! Once you find the sweet spot in the room, it comes alive at only 1/4 the volume! It is best for movies, but music is still good, if you find the right placement. Mine is at an intersection of two walls behind the surrounds, ports facing corner. Seems odd, but works the best for me. This sub did have a low hum, but only noticable if I put my face up close to it.

Very cheep! Sounds good

Simple, I paid $143 for this sub via the net. There is no other sub out there that I am aware of, that delivers this kind of performace for the price. Not even close...

I don't have any "hum" as some people have reported while the sub isn't being used... I can't hear a thing... My understanding is that some people have had trouble with this...

Strength:

Pretty decent sound, more than I expected when I first listened to it.

Weakness:

No on/off switch, low humming sound, THE DAMN THINGS A FIRE HAZARD!!!

I bought this sub 11 months ago from Circuit City (I know, they suck), and enjoyed the sub up until the other day. First off, I never abuse the sub, and never crank the bass and volume so high that it would put the sub in blow mode, so that is not the issue. The other day, I am sitting around listening to some tunes, all of a sudden, I hear this foghorn sound coming from the sub. I knew that it wasn't natural for ANY sub to do that, so I hustled into the living room and looked behind the sub only to notice white smoke pouring out of the port holes! It looked like a burning building. I yanked the power cord out of the outlet, and sat there as the living room filled up with the smell of burnt coffee grounds. I didn't even attempt to take off the back panel, because it doesn't take a genius to figure out the amp is blown. Thank goodness the sub is still, BARLEY, under warranty. And for all of the people here that gave positive reviews and said that they can't understand why others have had problems, I say just wait! Especially if you have only owned it for less than one year. Like I said before, the sound is pretty good, but the reliability sucks BAD! If the reliability stinks, than the whole sub is lousy. SKIP IT AND LOOK ELSEWHERE!!! 2 stars seeing I am in a good mood.

Strength:

great sounding

Weakness:

Can't turn it off. Unrealiable amp.

My BU-120 died after a year and 2 months, which is 2 months past warranty. I am fighting to get it fixed, but it is a hassle. The authorized service dealer near me basically says that he fixes a ton of them. The amps die all the time. He suggested Velodyne.

Strength:

Did sound pretty good when it worked....

Weakness:

Hum, buzz, whine, rat-ta-tat

Just got it yesterday, and I'm hoping I just got a bad experience, but here it is...

HUM: The hum was really bad at times. I'm talking about 20 feet away, and you can still hear it. However it wasn't a constant hum - sometimes it was barely audible.

BUZZ: It had a slight buzz that was always there whenever the bass hits - not being an audio pro, all I could compare it to is a slightly blown speaker. Of course I could only hear it when I was right next to it, and generally I don't thing it affected the audio quality.

WHINE: A couple of times when there was no audio input, out of nowhere it would start this medium pitched whine that could definitely be heard 30ft away or more.

POP: Similar to the whine in "frequency of occurance" (I'm not talking about pitch here). Once in a while when there is no audio signal input, it will pop 4-5 times.
RAT-TA-TAT: The machine gun noise that was mentioned previously was heard a few times when plugging it in.

Yesterday evening I plugged it in to try a DVD, and it was dead. I knew there was something wrong when I heard no hum. The light was on, and it made a slight "power up" noise when plugging it in, but no audio output. I unplugged it and plugged it in several times, still nothing. Short of pulling the thing apart, I tried everything I could to get it working. Dead. This morning I plugged it in, and guess what? It works again. Obviously I am returning it ASAP.

My Conclusion: I think I was unlucky and just got a bad one. I'm going to give it another try when I get the replacement, and hopefully then I'll be able to give it a better review.

On the plus side, I did try several Dolby Digial, DTS, and music cd's. DTS Saving Private Ryan sounded superb, and Matrix too. When it worked it was great....

Had this for about 12 months and two weeks when the cap first blew. Infinity covered the repair costs, but it only worked for another couple of months. I keep hoping beyond hope that HK will offer some sort of recall. In the meantime, I will be replacing this with a non-Infinity product.

Strength:

Looks nice. Plays loud. Sounds strong.

Weakness:

Poor quality control. I have already gone through two of these units. The first was DOA when I got it. The second one just died a month ago (just out of warranty). You should consider the extended warranty.

Good performance, poor quality. Two of them have already gone bad.

Strength:

Great power, good sound, pretty clear

Weakness:

there are NONE, except maybe that it can't turn off, i plugged it into my receiver, then it's all right

It's a great sub. I've read some of the other reviews and I don't know what the folks are talking about (i just jinxed myself). Mine is fine, produces powerful sound that is rich and full. Not only can I see the movie, now I can "feel" the movie. The only weakness is the fact that the sub does not have an on/off switch...but that's really no big deal if you connect it to power switching receiver. For it's price it's awesome. Go get it!!

Weakness:

Not accurate for music and.......Blew up one evening

This is in effect a re-review. Please read my May 3rd review that I just happen to write in a bad mood. This mood occurs when your sub blows in the middle of the night causing: a.)one to lose a mild monetary purchase and b.) a lose of sleep listening to the unit blowing up, only to be followed by my wife mentioning again and again how this thing is a fire hazard and could have brought the house down if say....we were on vacation while this occured.

I must however mention, that I wrote an e-mail to their Customer Service Department about this incident stating that I purchased this unit on Infinity's fine reputation so on and so on and challenged them to stand behind their product. They did, even though it was about a week past warranty.

It was fixed and Infinity paid 100% of the $80 it took to fix. I tip my hat to them for that and so does my brother (I'll get to that in a second).

I bought a Polk PSW 150 to replace it. This unit sounded wonderful but I brought it back because it lacked power and settled on a Velodyne CT 120....sure more expensive, but worth every bloody penny and more. I work in advertising and would love to write an ad for Velodyne even though I'm an ex-Art Director.

I gave this repaired BU-120 to my brother....only if he promised to hook it up to a surge protecter that he could turn off when not in use and he couldn't be happier.

Bottom line:

Low marks for reliability and overall quality.

High marks for Infinity's Customer Service Department. Standing behind their "sub" standard sub.
